I am so glad that someone as famous as Linda Hamilton is helping to rid the stigma on mental illness. I was diagnosed with schizoeffective bipolar type, depression, paranoid schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, and ocd. I have a similar video on my page.
Wonderful actress. Her performance in T2 should have been acknowledged by the academy awards. It's great she is using her profile to shine a light on mental health.
ive been their linda..it took me years before i got a handle on depression..i did not have mood swings but struggled with eating disorder and obesity..struggled with alot of workplace harassment and disrespect from society..the world is a very cold and judgmental place..
Yes I do, for over a year I have been able to live an almost normal, independant life outside a hospital setting. I am currently a student and I have a part-time job so I am in good health, thanks for asking!
My medication is not there for enjoyment, it is just part of the treatment. Psychiatry will only help if you are prepared to help yourself, like I have done, even when things were looking bad for me I never stopped trying and it was worth it in the end, I consider myself lucky. What I do enjoy Draziom is the fact that I can live in the community amongst family and friends, doing what I like doing and fulfilling my ambitions
I struggled with depression/thoughts of suicide from the ages of 11-15 and it's was a daily thing and it was all i could think about and i never told anyone or got any help but luckily it just went away on it's own. Kind of strange..At one time to be completely trapped in something that your whole life revolves around and then it's gone. Just gone, and it's almost like it was never a thing.
I have never used cocaine, but have been on meds for several years for my condition. That is your opinion so I respect that. I do agree that people want us to be on SS Disability which is crap. We may not be able to work like a normal person, but we can work.
Katie Couric also has bipolar and it is incredible how functional she is. Perhaps she has a much milder form called bipolar affective disorder. New interesting treatmenst are now available that are promissing. Ask your physician aboutt EMDR if you just can't shake certain thoughts that keep coming up when they are not welcome. Between yoga, music therapy, aroma therapy, art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and not EMDR, we are getting closer to conquoring this. & take your meds
Just like anything else. No two are alike. And what may be around the corner could change with age, life's basic struggles, etc. One of my relatives tried to harm my aunt & me 4-5 times. We could not prove it, but we did confront him. We had several flattened tires and at one point the gas was shut off in the dead of winter. God was watching over us.
@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF I would rather not have either. I have bipolar disorder, but when you have cancer, it mentally messes you up from not only the pain, but you get "toxic" blood. When you have built up toxins in your body, it causes "mental" illness as well. Just wanted to tell you, cause I read your post about which you would rather have. I'm also not speaking out of my butt about the info on cancer and toxins, I'm an RN. Take care!
@martinecaroline Yes indeed! I was saved by Christ two years ago, that and my husband get me through, but I can't get rid of it ever. I'm still mentally here to tell myself I'm not really depressed, my brain is just telling my body is (cause there will be no reason why I am you know?) or when I'm manic I got to mentally tell myself chill out. Does it work? It keeps it "down", but the compulsion is still there, as well as the delusions. But taking time for myself and praying helps a lot.
@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF Oh k, now I know what you mean by "you're very lucky you have no real disease" I thought you had a worse case of bipolar and you were telling me this but now it all makes sense. as for your question, i would rather have bipolar than cancer, I mostly see bipolar as a gift. It really isn't much a disease, just very understood in western culture...and yes, i try to make others like me or worse feel better, because i can relate. and as for cancer, there is always hope....
Once someone with bi-polar disorder almost hacked me into a bunch of little pieces. Then I almost died when he took the lugs off my wheels several times. Glad not all bi-polars are the same...
I can't believe that people can be so mean!!! I myself as a bipolar sufferer can't find the strength to tell my own friends, and she does it on public... and you accuse her of what? Using her disease? Believe me, neither of us bipolar (and it does exist) feel "liberated" IN ANY SENSE!!!
@icthruu4evr And research your facts!. Mental illnesses are highly inheritable, especially bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and researchers are beginning to understand the (combination of) genes that could possible contribute to those illnesses.
@icthruu4evr It has nothing whatsoever to do with people who have are egotists, have mild moodswings/moodiness, emotional issues and are a general pain in the ass to be with. I agree that trends in our society and culture produce more and more people who are egotistical and fucked up, but that’s a different discussion altogether.
@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF I've had 3 episodes and have been to the mental hospital for 3 stays already in my life and i'm not even 19 (was diagnosed at 16) i've seen the worst of the worst and i can honestly say i have a MILD case of bipolar, sometimes i go weeks without taking meds and it makes no real difference, daily marijuana use triggers episodes for me so i try to stay away from everyday pot use. When I say MILD, I mean overall, as i get the HIGHEST HIGHS. I go into Acute Psychosis. Bp #1
Why so much anger? I don't need to prove to you that my disorder is not a label and neither does anyone else. I'm sure though that you have a bigger problem when you react to psychiatric disorders and sufferers like that. You need to see someone more than we do .. about your anger... Good luck with that! (I mean it)
I do have to admit though,it can be a challenge to avoid internalising without being accused of being a sociopath (another stupid label).Take for example a man(heterosexual identified)lashing out at his wife as a desperate defense mechanism to avoid internalising her femininity/voice in your head.So you'd need to learn to listen without letting her into your head and compromising your own male voice/conscience or stay with the fellows and get a mangina and be gay :)
That's a very simplistic way of looking at it and was a hypothesis that was cobbled up by big pharma to explain why their drugs work. However, there is no evidence to support this hypothesis and has been supplanted by more sophisticated explanations, but unfortunately, the illness is very complex and is a result of genetics and environment for such facile explanations.
@icthruu4evr I find your comment highly offensive, derogatory and extremely ignorant! The causes of manic depression have nothing to do with how people are raised or what their background it. It is not something you chose to have, for the fun of it. It is a deeply debilitating disease. It extremely stupid and rediculous of you to believe depression comes from other people "not kissing their ass and throwing money at them" I hardly believe you've ever met somebody suffering from the disease
@BalloonsExclmatnMark BIPOLAR..... IT IS GENETICLY..... RELATED....B__NOT DRUG RELATED____CHECK YOUR MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS AGAIN.....ignorance and stigma kills __please educate.

Thank you for having the courage to speak up about this brain disorder.
Thank you for being so brave
Linda Hamilton you're a legend
Thanks Linda! You're a great example of a survivor of a disease like this which kills 1 in 5 of the people it afflicts!
she is still a beautiful woman, wish u the best linda
Wonderful actress. Her performance in T2 should have been acknowledged by the academy awards. It's great she is using her profile to shine a light on mental health.
Hamilton is a complete and utter legend.
Such a Beautiful Woman and Great Actress! Theres only One Sarah Conor and Shes right Here :-)
She almost always looks 10 years younger than she actually is.
It's so great when people will put themselves out there to help break the stigma. Thank you Linda!!
Thank you for sharing, Linda. That's couldn't have been easy.

Thats awesome Linda appeared to talk about bipolar disorder. I know I am not alone

She is like the character Sarah Connor.
My mom looks like her!
Alternative ways to help should also be considered if possible.
Brave Woman!!!!!!
I think this is her twinsister, who doubled her in few scenens in T2, but she looks good:-)
TE AMO SARAH CONNOR

I was just watching a clip about shizophreniacs and hearing that other woman voice right near the end kinda shocked me xD

I love you sweetheart!
Come on, move with the groove, herbert.
@icthruu4evr OH and by the way I am not a little princess with some dissapointments , I am a long haul trucker with bi-polar disorder.
Bipolar disorder IS a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Bi Polar? Interesting. She once said she has an identical twin sister; Now is it a REAL twin sister, or a alter ego?
Thats' because she's wearing makeup.
