- Making The Customer Number 1 internal video, given out to Sealink staff in 1988 as part of a post-privatisation drive for customer service and improved standards. This had been languishing behind the family TV for years before I saved it for history!
I worked for them 88-95, initially at Sea Containers House in Blackfriars and then at Charter House in Ashford after the Stena takeover in 91. I had a wonderful time working in retail I.T. across many of the vessels in the fleet. After the Stena takeover I worked on the reservation system for several years. Fond memories of the old British Rail culture, ships and many of the old characters before the Stena takeover. Stena had a far more professional culture than the Sealink happy-go-lucky attitude, the Stena ships were better quality, better maintained and operated more safely. From what I can tell, Sea Containers were delighted to sell Sealink for top dollar, they had stripped a lot of the value out of Sealink by then and weren't really interested in running the company for the long term.
Worth watching for the music alone! Cheers for posting👍🏻
Ferry good video. Glad to sea it. It is boat entertaining and informative. Glad I came across this channel.
Thanks and welcome Sancho!
thanks Tef
As a kid I used to go to Ireland with my family for the holidays with both Sealink and B&I. I always preferred B&I, same today I prefer Irish Ferries to Stena
finest crosssing they had,Folkestone to Boulogne, used it all time freight crossing on Hengist,Horsa and the old beaut Vortigan
The old days of sealink happy times xXxX
Richard Tice hasn't aged at all!
A fascinating corporate video. It seems to be a recording of a recording? So 1980s in style. Lots of footage of the fleet which looked great in the livery of the time. Extraordinary to think the name Sealink has been dead for 25 years now.
Yes it was. Very basic I know but way back then it was all I could think of!
Ah those halcyon days of freedom for humanity.
Obviously a successful initiative, because they were sold off in 1991 and the brand disappeared by 1996.
This is a fantastic video - just one thing, have you still got the VHS (I'm guessing) that this is stored on? It just seems a shame to have the video archived like this - a direct capture would bring out the quality in this video! If you still have it i'd be happy to convert it for you and send you back the video cassette.
Yes I do! I'll post a picture of it in all its 1980s glory on my Community page. I did in fact make a proper copy using Honestech 5.0 software onto DVD last year. I just need to work out how to upload from a DVD onto RUclips.
@@TefsTravails If you can upload it in its full glory I would really appreciate it!
My Dad ,George Rogan, used to work for this company. He was based in Westmoreland Street in Dublin.
I'm pretty sure sealink still exists in Australia. Sealink used to be owned by the railway before its privatisation.
Where are they all now. Thanks Maggie
Sealink merged to Stena Line and to SeaFrance in 1996
