Fantastic archive footage. Such a treat to see those old ferries in action. The Chartres entering the old Camber at Dover whilst the Free Enterprise V heads over to Calais. Great looking ships. A very different era.
A fine gentleman later in command of Pride of Calais. Always a warm welcome on the bridge even in very early hours. Regards from Martin Minnebo, a ferryman from Belgium.
YES INDEED Capt. Bob Blowers, later to be in command of Pride of Calais. A fine gentleman and a good golfer. Always nice to have a chat with him and a always a warm welcome on the bridge. Regards sir. From Martin Minnebo (ferryman from Belgium)
This is nostalgic with the old ferries

I remember this back in 1977 we regularly had no sound we mostly communicated with gestures and lip reading.
😂That's right! The world was a much quieter place.
3:53......B.L. Wedge with a wobblebox !! Classic!
Great video, thank you!
It's a great archive film, but a pity there's no sound.
A young looking Captain R.P. Blowers in command of the Townsend Thoresen ferry Free Enterprise V if I'm not mistaken.

@@bonkeydollocks1879 No. Not that one.
no sound
I’m surprised that the BL Austin Princess towing a caravan made it to France. I wonder if he made it back?
I think the caravan was pushing it...
sound?
Better mute than with horrible music.
Lovely Volvo @4.00
Fantastic lol ....No sound, but you could put your own sound and voices on...that would be good fun.
These ferries have hardly any keel, an accident waiting to happen.
