    The skill I’m focusing on is motion graphics. At work I use After Effects, and at home I use Davinci Resolve Fusion. I’m loving finding the strengths and weaknesses of both layer-based and node-based motion graphics. I definitely still prefer After Effects, but I’m really starting to see the value of Fusion.

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, we definitely need to dive into fusion so we can add it to our programs. Glad you like it though! Nodes definitely take some time to learn, but with color grading it was a game changer.

    What about storytelling?
    I think that it is a crucial skill. To me it is the most important in order to engage the audience/target group and keeping them wanting to see more. I might be biased as I have some experience as a writer😊

  • @AlexArce
    @AlexArce 3 года назад +1

    The biggest take away I need to practice more. I'm okay but I want to more complex video and tell better stories. I need to work on my editing style and master one thing at a time. All so much to learn but feel like I have little time to learn them. Well, anyway don't make the same mistake that I did. I let my ignorance knowing of the craft stopped me from getting clients and doing projects. Get uncomfortable and push past your limits, create epic content, and repeat! Great video!

    I enjoyed your "top 10" list. I'd like to, in an abbreviated comment, add some ideas about your comments on video freelancing. I agree with your list, especially items 1 and 2. Of course the other 8 can be added too, rearranged and supplemented. F.Y.I.
    I am past retirement age and spent 30+ years doing the independent videographer dance. I could espouse so much about my numerous experiences but you hit the high points perfectly.
    I graduated from an accredited university film school. I learned film (16 and super 8mm film), not video. This type of production taught me and my fellow classmates "FILM" techniques and production elements few build from in these times.
    After graduating, I and my co-horts went different directions. My 2 friends/roommates went the L.A. route. My closest friend became an "A" list gaffer until he passed away (to young at 58). Jim Tynes you are missed! My other roommate became a TV lighting designer. Lisa Gilhousen was wickedly bright and was paid well for it.
    I evolved into video -(it was still new technology at that time when I started). I began by using tube cameras and VHS tape (YES VHS TAPE). I built a small soon to be larger production company. I started with weddings and after 30+ years I shot every conceivable video (No PORN- it was offered I declined (garbage in garbage out is what I saw)).
    I built a company that supported me, my wife (a stay at home artist/mom who also passed away too young, last year) and 3 children and 2 nephews. I traveled extensively and videod everything from meetings for the living, and autopsies of the dead, commercials even legal documentaries and so much more!
    As computers came along I branched out into animation "Lightwave" was great software. I had many 6 figure years and lived very well, but worked too hard- it took its toll on my health.
    I am going to review your other "RUclips videos" and follow your channel (this video nailed the 10 quite well). If I find reason to further my comments I will, perhaps discussing audio, production (an area so important and never addressed adequately), pre and post production, along with other thoughts. In closing I recommend a book by Steve Stockman "How to Shoot Video that Doesn't Suck". A book I wish had been around when I dove head first into video production. Thanks for your insights I hope your message is received by those who need or could use it.

    Best money I ever spent:
    Renting a Jaguar XJ-S, forever curing me of Jaguar lust.
    $25 or so on a Chainsaw In A Can, enabling better landscape photos than otherwise possible.
    Every penny of a small fortune to spend time with Lianny Milan, thereby experiencing Heaven on Earth.
    14 Day Filmmaker.
    Not necessarily in that order. 😉
    You guys rock. Every time. 👍✅

    This is a fantastic video, thanks very much! Biggest change I made was audio, with probably lighting being a close second. I just do RUclips book reviews (I say "just," but they're actually getting much better now - check them out if you like to read!) but those two skills, along with some basic editing, make my videos stand out. Specifically for YT, it's THUMBNAILS too! Canva is what I use. Thanks again, Anthony!

    Yes, Your %1000 Right, "Film Maker" is a Broad, misused and incorrect term, and should NOT be used anymore. if your not creating "Films" in Hollywood, The ABSOLUTE Correct term is...:Videographer".

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  3 года назад +1

      Lol - you're really hung up on titles mate. I disagree and think Filmmakers and Videographers are the same thing. But you're free to feel how you feel! I think getting "upset" because you call yourself a Filmmaker and think its important when other ppl do something different and call themselves the same thing is 100% ego. Whenever you notice yourself getting upset or emotional about that kinda thing - know you found a part of your ego and it'd be super valuable to release that attachment so it no longer affects you at all!
      Anyway - all the best! We're gonna stick to our own beliefs! Sorry that offends you :)

      Sorry you feel that way, No one is offended. Perhaps the more appropriate term for %99.999 of videographers would be, Video Content Creators, Or just say Content Creator. Leave the word Film out.
      The one who would be offended and look at you with a half smile Smirk is this "Film" maker.

    I have started watching your videos outlining enhancing production skills. I enjoy your insights and agree with the majority. However, I take issue with 1 term, idea, concept. You call it video production and yet you call the person running this business, building this reel as film makers. Sorry non of what you talk about is filmmaking or filmmaker. People be it producers, directors, editor, camera people are actually "VIDEOGRAPHERD" working in "video". Filmaker shoot film not video- a big difference, I suggest you explore it and get your terminologu/definitions correct. Your direction and concepts are great tweak your definitions.
