    Just to clarify, the 5-year program in China is MBBS not MD. MD is an 8-year program in China

    i have two friends who are MSL with pharmD only. very rare I think... well i meet about a dozen MSL's and theyre almost all PharmD but I know hundreds of PharmD and only 2 are MSL lol.
    the best way to become MSL is to do research DURING pharmacy school. DO NOT DO PHD! slave labor and u loose ~120k income/yr in opportunity cost. Do research during pharmacy school in a lab that has post docs and ideally has involvement in clinical trials. i found a lab that did natural product research and we did IRB and baby clinical trial. thats gold. then try to find an internship or something with industry and send lots of emails. i think u will be more successful if youre in a research lab already.
    the secret way into MSL world in my opinion is to move across the country to find an out patient, private, oncology clinic. these people are bombarded with industry reps and msl and you will build good connections. it is the most profitable area of pharma so you will get the best reputation doing this work. not much to do as an oncology pharmacist in this setting which means u have lots of time to meet industry reps. make sure u dont ask many questions and let the doctor make money.... i know... means to an end.
    I have 1 friend who is MSL for novonortus... the insulin/glp1 company u know big name. As pharmD their MSL sallary is only around 140k/yr but they get bonus and stock which brings it to around 180-220k if you know how to make the cookie stretch with taxes and play the game. she just got lucky coz in 2012 there was big shortage still of pharmD i think and has good speaking skills, US born and for some reason i think it helps to be pretty.... not that I know anything about that
    other friend who is MSL for pfizer and has PharmD and i think maybe masters or somekind of extra research. worked as an oncology pharmacist for 7-10 yrs and finally got into the MSL world by talking to industry people and applying at the right time 3 years ago. they are very good at "networking", i hate this word lol. first they started at a medium cap pharma company but then jumped ship to pfizer after only 3 months i think? idk thats how industry works maybe... like for engineers. I think they make around 250k from the way they all describe their income in some sort of equation I can usually figure out.
    for the pharmD's who hate pharmacy and couldnt get a residency and are looking for a way to not do retail, my advice which is what i did, apply to be a manager of a rural pharmacy in the middle of no where. they are all hurting and will pay closer to 160k/yr... many desperate i think. keep ur mouth shut and start working for 2 years and study for MCAT or whatever. stack cash and then get into MD program. dont settle for DO or Caribbean. or do nursing lol idk. get out of the job as fast as u can... i am a little bitter about pharmacy but almost done with MD now.
    good video thanks for uploading

    Hi! I just graduated from medical school (DO). I have residency lined up, but I don’t think I want to finish past my unrestricted medical license.
    Did you quit as well? And do you make as much as a clinician? I have 400k debt….so salary is a big consideration for me

    • @dr.catslab
      @dr.catslab  2 года назад

      If you don’t want to do it, then you should find an alternative. I have seen many MDs left medicine right after med school. Clinicians salaries range quite a lot so depends on what you want to do. You definitely make more than what you get from residency.

      wow 400k dang. not that much money though, I use 1% rule, pay ~1% principle per month = paid off in 10ish years (3%APR = 10yrs, 4%=10.5yr, 5%=11yr, 10%apr=20yr with bimonthly payments)
      if you dont like ur specialty just start working and apply towards other residencies, not that un common. if you want to do something like cardiology and its too competitive, do peds then cardio is a sneaky way in for DO i think. hasta la victoria simprere
      refinance once everything goes belly up next year and get 3% interest rate or lower

    Do I need to be a licensed MD in the place I wanted to apply for an MSL? Is it easy to apply MSL as a foreign/immigrant MD grad? I was planning to leave the clinical field and try my luck in this pharmaceutical industry based in europe. I dont know if they will hire me since I am not EU citizen nor EU MD grad.

    • @dr.catslab

      It will be more difficult to be hired a a foreign MD without clinical/scientific experience I t eh country that you want to apply to. But you are always encouraged to apply.

      Hi! I don’t think you need to be registered. The key is to demonstrate that you have the core skills MSLs needed.
