- Dear Friends!!! We are at RECOfan SHIBUYA!!! Finally!!!
This is the biggest, ALL-GENRES-UNDER-ONE-ROOF, and MOST FUN, in terms of 1)atmosphere (very lively!!!), and 2)crate digging!!!
(Of course we will visit the Disc Union at the next video, where you will see the multiple storeys and branches)
RECOfan, SHIBUYA!!!
BEAR IN MIND, the prices are BEFORE DISCOUNT, BEFORE deducting foreigners’ taxes of 8%!, and also the LPs here are all in MINT OR NEAR MINT CONDITION, where you can buy with peace of mind.
I DIDN’T CHECK THE CONDITION OF ALL THE USED LPs, and they turn out to be PERFECTLY MINT or NEAR MINT.
YOU ALSO get a 200yen discount for EVERY used item (each costing 350yen minimum only) bought!!! That means, you receive a whopping 1,000yen discount for 5 items, and 1,200yen discount for 6items, and so on!
The 100yen bins!!!! Gosh! You will see them first when the lift door opens!!! What a welcoming gift for us and customers!!!
Those bins, if you buy 10 of such 100yen LPs, you will be billed ONLY 50YEN per LP!!! That means 500yen for 10 such LPs!!!

And also, this is a very fun shop:
e.g. the jazz LPs organised in a few sections placed at different parts of the store,
will interject and criss cross with the Rock Pops LP sections, and the Classical LPs as well.
So you will see different genres one after another continuously.
And they will interject one another.

This is a very large store. The video coverage is actually 1hour! But I have scaled it down to 15minutes of coverage, not missing anytime, but speeding up in between running between sections. I COVERED ALL SECTIONS for all you guys. ALL VINYL RECORD SECTIONS. I DIDN’T MISS ANY SECTION OF THE STORE OUT!!! I wanted to do this because you guys will be interested in different genres and if you’re into Jazz, you want to see it! Rock, you want to see it. If you’re into heavy metal/hard rock, you want to witness it. If you’re into classical, SKA, Reggae,etc etc… you’ll all want to know.
I will also lift up a few vinyl records for you guys to gauge, VERY IMPORTANTLY, THE PRICES of the vinyl records at this RECOFAN Shibuya massive shop! Prices before discount of course :-D !
SO, all sections/genres covered, representative prices covered.
In the mix, I will show you how dazed/excited I am… and how I easily picked up a few vinyl records, just as my wife DID!!!
At the end, I will show you real-life video, HOW INTERESTING THE JAPANESE COOL GUY at the counter helped me with the transaction and payment.

I don't buy vinyl anymore, I've done the whole thing. You remind me of my vinyl purchases in New York in a flat like this one at recofan. I didn't know where to turn...mostly vintage mono floor to ceiling vinyl etc...but I'm talking about over 30 years ago! You are a wonderful couple to share the same passion .My sulations from France dear friends !

Thank you for this video, we just went to this store and had an amazing haul for record store day. I was amazed at the quality and after we totaled it up we bought 12 albums for an average price of 700 Yen. HiViNyws channel yes! We were in Tokyo on vacation. We always try to visit record stores on our travels, usually we have to figure it out for ourselves but your help was really valuable to point us in the perfect direction. So many shops are overpriced these days, and even worse dirty; this place was excellent all around.

I spent 2 hours and 16000¥ in that store right before going back to the US in December! Japan does vinyl the right way! There's really good stuff there if you spend the time. I bought original Japanese pressing of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue in excellent condition for 2500¥ that's now selling for over 10000¥ on eBay! Great video!

I'm being objective and non-biased when I say this: when my good friends from various countries in various continents, e.g. Switzerland, Italy, America, The Philippines, Brazil, myself from Singapore and more, who had been to Japan and work/tour/live, we easily noticed that the Japanese people are, erhem, far from the best people around.
I state this with a severe understatement: they are not that nice people.

Your last couple of videos of vinyl shopping in Japan have been most interesting for me. When I saw your original vinyl shopping video in Japan last year I was inspired. I love LPs and now I'm off with my wife in May this year to Tokyo to do exactly what you're doing! And RECOfan is now high on my list. +Nelson De Silva Oh yes, for the 8days trip, I stayed at my parents-in-laws' home in Saitama prefecture for 7nights... and the only night my wife and I didn't stay there, was this night where I made this trip to RECOfan Shibuya!!! :-D Hahaha... the things we do for vinyl!!!
I reckoned I will be be hunting and buying vinyl, so I need all the time in the world to hunt and shop for vinyl leisurely, and of course to make these videos at RECOfan Shibuya and DiscUnion Shinjuku for all of you friends.
Thus we checked in to a nearby hotel at Shibuya station after coffee at Segafredo :-)
The next day morning, we woke up, checked out, and headed on to...
DiscUnion Shinjuku... which will be my next video :-)

Dear Buddy👋😄✌!!...hi!!! The service is not so as they seemed actually, and the Japanese staff gives me better service only when my Japanese wife is around. If I am alone, their attitudes become different (to put it kindly) despite me being extremely courteous and non-demanding at all. Japanese staff attitudes towards gaijins are always different 🤗... I have to let you know in advance in case you're disappointed. Many of my friends, be they Europeans, Asians and Americans, and these friends are all very unassuming and courteous, non-demanding types, have been shocked at the *bad treatment* (note that I did not use the words "poor service") towards us gaijins...but soon we will all get used to it. It is in the Japanese psyche: they regard their race as the most superior race on Earth. I have many Japanese friends, no matter seemingly how kind they are, they have this condescending attitude towards us gaijins all, deep from their hearts. Don't worry🤗, I am a happy guy, and I still visit Japan to pay my in-laws my piety and due diligence.

the streets are very colorful, and modern. thank you for this fantastic journey, the Record shop is just wow factor.... unbelievable 50 yen is 35 english pence or 30 american cents. I did not see anything Pink floyd in the shop, I like to collect p.f bootlegs.

I stumbled across this shop in 2004, my second time in Japan (on my way back to Australia from the US). I was not that interested in records at the time and was more looking for anime LDs. I only wanted to buy Jp Bon Jovi records at the time. I tried to find it in 2006 when I was in Tokyo before travelling to my university and then again in 2010. I was certain that it was across from a McDonalds, but I was wrong! There was a small record shop across the road but it was mainly rap and shit like that. I will be going there for sure on my next trip! I want to hit the hard rock, new wave and pop sections! I will have to sacrifice some Akiba game hunting time to RECOfan ;)

Okay, digging in to hard rock, new wave and pop records to fill up ALL your days in Tokyo and I reckon leaving no time for Akiba game hunting :-D !!!! Ian Iit was a fascinating look at Japanese culture I couldn't go in that record store without spending $500 and your wife look really happy when she picked up that first 7-inch record it looked a lot like Linda Ronstadt hope you got some good quality records there it's hit-and-miss here with pressings nowadays!!!!😎

True...hit and miss nowadays with records we picked up... but the Japanese record stores allow the customers to inspect and play them. I have always wondered what are other Brazilian musicians and artists I should look out for...thus your recommendation comes very timely and apt for me! Anybody else? Please please! Let me know! I remember shopping in Japan, I was there twice on tour with a band and man the service is always excellent.
Great for you my friend!!!! :-D the service is not so great (i am putting it very kindly here) many times, to my friends who separately visit various stores (for hifi and records) even though they are very kind friends, speak slowly in proper English, and even in Japanese. These very mild and kind friends of mine, are from the U.S., Switzerland, Italy, Brazil, etc.... as long as you are Gaijin, the Japanese will look down on you, deep in their hearts, they do, always do.
I know too, :-D coz i have a Japanese wife (she left Japan 28 years ago) who knew better, and she divulged to me too, and i experienced that through my communication and friendship with many with Japanese acquaintances friends.
IT is okay, we get what we want, and we tried, :-D

@@HiViNywschannel You are right, I never was able to look behind the smiling face of a japanese. They look down on you, I know. I was there as a musician and as a musician it is the opposite, I was treated like a king, I met rich business man and common people I thought I am a star the way they treated me. I played in the big city and the country side and even the rice farmers where great. BUT, I know what is going on behind the face maybe is totally different than what I thought. It just makes touring very easy when people are so friendly, the airline as an example took me to the airplane to show me that my guitar amp was packed correctly! I never had this anywhere else in the world. So for a musician, Japan is Disneyland, but I would never want to live there.

Heyyy :) Well only about 15 years. I'm only 35 so i havent been collecting aslong as most! haha. Punk is what i listen to, but i also like Atlantic Jazz stuff. In truth i'm not great when it comes to the technology side of music. Thats why i find your videos very interesting, and fun! Put the two together and you are onto a winner! I can go into detail about punk labels, punk bands etc.. but my knowledge of turntables, speakers is very limited. And i have to say that you make these videos so much fun. Your personality comes through amazing and it makes me want to watch more! I'm slowly getting through your videos haha!

Ian, I was shocked at the prices - I was expecting MUCH higher, especially since I know at my favorite record store (2.5 hours away), they have a few Japanese collectors that fly in twice a year and buy lots of high ticket items in bulk. Very cool!
Oh I see! :-D My Singapore friends told me too the Japanese have been very active and are very avid collectors of vinyl records. They go everywhere!

Good thing is that my wife was very patient with me, and, she was browsing the vinyl records at different sections by herself too!as I was taking the video for all of you friends.

Can she easily pick up J-Pop albums in Singapore or are they expensive and hard to come by?Unbelievable how cheap things can be picked up! Even the Japanese pressings are very reasonable. I would have left that store in debt. You got an awesome deal for the package you picked up. The price was a steal!Love Segafreddo coffee! It's the only coffee I make in my house ;)

If not for our need to pack winter clothes and buy gifts back to Singapore for our friends, we would have bought more records. Yes, very good deals to be had :-D

I seem to remember watching a video where Michael freamer ? Went through a phase of collecting Japanese pressed records, but went on to say they didn't sound good comparable to others ? supposedly pressed elsewhere !!
