If only there was a way to try different types of shocks out to see exactly what YOU like and not just what people say about a product… there too expensive to “try out” and then you can’t return them…
The video is for the 2.0 series which do reflect much more than Fox 2.5 vs King 2.5. Both the 2.5 are great options and we run both brands on own vehicles.
This is why I like the Bilstein BlackHawk e2 on the TRX. Dual valve digitally tunable digressive shock with reservoir. Not a pillow like Fox, so many people say it’s “harsh” comparatively. Well yes. It is for several reasons. Reasons: more handling on street (95% of driving), very planted without the floating boat feeling, much more driver feedback in the steering wheel & seat (sense of terrain/road), less body roll & pitch, no boat like floating feeling, takes harsh impacts easier because it’s designed specifically to hit harder and more comfortable at higher piston velocity, less chassis rattle, lasts longer due to less internal force at high velocity, and it’s tunable at the press of a button to your desired drive quality. Many guys think “Baja” is the softest, select it, then are disappointed when they feel all the small bumps on their commute… Baja mode an aggressive configuration (though sport mode has quicker rebound) meant to resist a 7k lb ballistic missile launching at peak 702hp take offs, jumping, and slamming down on soft earth. Street mode is the softest configuration. Some dudes have taken the suspension out because Baja wasn’t soft enough and thrown in a set of manually tunable Kings. 🤦♂️ They’ll bottom the truck out on a jump, destroy the 5th strut struggling alone, and cause far too much chassis & driveline jostle.
Like the dude from ShockSurplus said, MANY consumers have no idea what their vehicle is even capable of in stock form... they pay out the ass for fancy shock "upgrades" when they've never even pushed the limits of their OEMs. I'm the other way around 😁 I'm broke so I just thrash what I have because YOLO, and then literally ANYTHING other than what's on my truck is a genuine improvement
I've had them all and I still stand by Fox with a custom tune. Off the shelf they can either make your ride better or worse. I always change out my shocks on factory vehicles except my RZR. It does help I have a few tuner buddies that help me fine tune my shocks but I've never been happy with off the shelf shocks. Even companies that claim they tune their shocks for your vehicle. Every vehicle is different along with specific applications. From my experience, Fox has the best technology hands down. Also, set it forget it shocks are not ideal. Always opt for adjusters with whatever brand you get. That way you can accommodate for different loads and terrain. This is from about 20 years of my personal experience.
We love Fox as well but it's not always made for everyone. We run them on our own vehicles but these are full off-road rigs. We do like to ask consumer who are interested in parts to give us as much details to their build goals, truck usage or driving style and so forth.
@@ShockSurplus Same here. I had a fully built 02 Ford Ranger with Camburg long travel front and Deavers in the rear with shock hoops through the bed. Of course my RZR is only off-road and the custom tune I have on those shocks made a huge difference. My Ranger first had set it and forget it Fox all around and then I went King set it and forget it. Both sets I ran stock and they were custom tuned. I went full adjustable custom tuned Fox and I was blown away. My 2012 had a mid travel kit with custom tuned Fox 2.5 coil overs. Ran the stock tune and I wasn't impressed. I had custom tuned Fox 2.0 non resi on my 2017 Ford F250 and now have Fox FRS 2.5 w DSCs. Night and day difference. Especially when towing. Even my dirt bikes and quads have custom tuned factory shocks. Nothing compares to a custom tune. As far as the different brands, I would say there is a little difference but the tune is what makes it great. Only off the shelf shock I've ran without any tunes was bilstein on my wife's Expedition. Oh, and Monroes on my sedans. I've never had a non adjustable off the shelf shock work good at all off-road.
Blink twice if they're making you say that against your will...honestly I've been looking at a lot of shocks and got a comprehensive setup icon is the only one that has a truly comprehensive kit for the new Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon 😊, but from a daily comfort aspect which is 70-80% of my driving King seems like the best option.
The best you know is the best you've ridden on.....most people don't change their suspension out to know the differences between the brands....really expensive to do so.... But yeah all can be custom tuned......KING is right down the street from me and been in game along time.....would choose them and tune accordingly
We have tested various parts on various trucks and try to give our unbiased opinion. But we are also limited to what vehicles as we work on vehicles that we own are our family and friends own.
I just installed rear fox 2.0 on an lowered f150 with rear flip kit and they are superior to 3 different drop shocks i have tried in the past. Djm, belltech street & performance. With thw fox you get great comfort but also get great control and dont bottom out like the belltech streets. Somehow, fox got both aspects in one shock compared to the rest i tried. You either get control/firm or soft/comfort.
I’m looking to get a smoother ride on my 2011 f-250 w/20” wheels. I sometimes trailer a Skidsteer around town I’d say once a month. What shocks do you suggest?
All three would probably do well enough, but you could save your self some money and a lot of maintenance by going with a set of Bilsteins or Eibachs for the way you are using it. These high end options are killer, and can be set up and tuned to be pretty comfortable and stable, but a less expensive set of Bilsteins or Eibachs would more than handle your needs for less money and require next far less service if they ever need it at all.
I have a 22 Chevy hd. I like the highway handling and prefer the stiff ride. That being said I have to idle on dirt roads. Is there anything that lets me go just a bit faster on dirt but maintain my highway handling???
If you like tight handling as well as a firmer ride and would like to be able to go a little faster off road Icon is definitely your ticket. They will be tight as a drum on the road for the most stability on the highway and pretty much only get better the faster you go off road.
The King is probably the most plush but they can be a little loose though we think is usually the better choice. They are still very comfortable but offer a lot more stability than the King. With that said if you have any towing or hauling in the cards you will definitely want the Icon.
That's why we take the time to test them on our own vehicles for you so that if anybody ever reaches out for a suspension upgrade, we can offer advice based off our real-world experiences with the shocks we sell. The newest rig in the fleet is our 2022 Bronco, which is on its 7th set of shocks in the last year and more are on the way. Every time we test something new we post a review video with a detailed article, and add the parts and our thoughts about them to buyers guides so you can get all the knowledge we've gained from all the miles of testing in one place.

But the Falcon 3.3 have all these beat, thicker body, rebound adjustable, reservoirs, cant lose. www.shocksurplus.com/search?query=falcon-3.3
If you ever trailer anything I’d go for a more “stock” style shock like the bilstein 5100 if you aren’t all these shocks are tunable so I’d look who’s closest to you and at how many miles each are rated for
You're being rather vague. What was the test course, the highway, off-road through the desert, or rocky mountainous terrain??? Where's Bilstein and Eibach inches scenario???
Case by case situation but we haven't much concerns with those living conditions which salt is used more aggressive. We don't offer Ironman so we can't tell you how long their parts will last but we haven't had issues with various companies producing parts.
@@ShockSurplus well I have ironman on my vehicle right now for about 6 months and still looking good. My old one was icon, which was on my vehicle for 3 years. About a year in my vehicle, it started to rust. And 2 years after, it is so rusted it's not worth to rebuild it just by how rusted it is. So I did my research and called ironman and ask questions. They told me that icon, fox, and king are just coated with zinc, which he said will wear out after a year. While theirs is painted with layers. That's why they can warrant Thiers suspension for 3 years, while the others have 1 year warranty. So far I'm happy with my ironman. The real test is this winter coming up.
I was looking for a comment like this. I work for an oil field company that hauls salt water. And these Mfin truck drivers love to dump the water on the lot. My old 7.3 crew cab had Bilstein and then king on a 6-8" adjustable and I never had the blow out issues I've had with Fox the past few years. We are aware of their facility for the MTB stuff but their off-road truck department is here in the US. Fox does not make a 10" shock for any of the F350. We're not sure what you're using but it doesn't seem correct. Fox does make parts for a 6-7" but nothing more than that for this case. We assume these are custom parts.
