As someone who has discovered puppy play recently, I have noticed that puppy play has altered my body image but it's in a good way. I have discovered that I love exercising in my gear so I'm really happy that I can exercise more these days.

For sure ^ ^ - bodyshaming in the gay community is a bit harsh, kinkshaming too. the effect on your body image can be pretty rough at times, but if you find some loyal friends, you can find a small group that works together.

Yeah, no. You feel this way due to being a pretty puppy. Many people feel this way due to being pretty puppies. Ask someone with actual body issues that is actually outside of the norm this question. My husband who has the accurate puppy body gets a ton of attention due to having the accurate puppy body. He looks amazing in his gear, and he gets hit on a lot. However, I am not the same in appearance nor do I fit the norm of the puppy world, and I have been ridiculed, picked on and ostracized more in the puppy world than any other world I have ever been in. Puppies and handlers have just been downright cruel due to me not fitting the norm. I have also known other puppies that did not fit the norm that had the same attacks. One of my former betas was starting to create community events in his community which was not my current community (I've been part of at least 3 puppy communities), and he was basically told by multiple people that if he wanted anyone to come or show to his events he needed to stop being the face of them and start having pretty puppies be the face of them. He needed to find someone who could draw a crowd. I have been in two puppy communities in Ohio where the focus was on looks, and if you did not have the looks you were pretty much ignored. Again, my husband was very popular, and again I was completely ignored. The current community we live in is beyond toxic and if you are not pretty, you might as well not even bother going out. Everyone is a perceived "10" chasing an 11. It is beyond horrible in that it amplifies the same body shaming in the community that you would normally have, but due to puppy gear being all about removing the person and turning them into a completely sexualized object, it gets even worse than it is in the mainstream. Puppy world really exists for pretty puppies, and the only reason you have not been able to see this is you have always had the experience of a pretty puppy. You are uniquely unqualified to answer this question.
