I think the brand of the inferno also deserves a mention; for a broadsword it has very high base damage for the point at which you get it, higher than even the excalibur and of course the parry mechanic is really useful

@@alexedc2777 i did a true meelee playtrough once (im not a masochist so I only used meelee weapons that don't fire projectiles, like swords, spears and flails, or weapons what fire projectiles on impact like the bladetongue or horseman's blade, and all that on expert mode) and this weapon helped me kill prime, destroyer, plantera, fishron and golem (I switched to the keybrand after that). But this weapon is a beast.
Bonus hints for the Old One's Army event 1) it can go all the way up to 121 blocks to either side of the centre. 2) placing a platform ~20 blocks above the main arena gives your sentries a perfect position for targeting wyverns 3) using the flameburst rod and the lightning aura rod, alongside items like the clinger staff, can basically put in a huge killzone near the crystal, and can easily destroy almost all of the low-tier goblins of the invasion Good luck and happy grinding :)
This staff is maybe 80% worth it I’d say. It is very powerful and incredibly fun to use. The only downside is farming the Old Ones Army, though I don’t mind because I love that event.
It's also a breeze with another player to help you. Me and my brother are starting to grind out the old one's army, and having him makes the event ten times easier
Tip for flying enemies in the old one's army: Make a second, raised platform for you to put some of your ranged sentries (ballista and flameburst tower) on. Sentries on ground level tend to miss a lot more frequently when aiming up at flying targets, so having them be raised up to equal height will make them hit more reliably.

I really love Old One's Army in Terraria. There are many underestimated weapons. Some of them could carry you to Post Moon Lord stage like my personal favourite Sky Dragon's Rage. With Ballista staff and Valhalla Knight's armour set it's must have. I beated Moon Lord on master mode with this setup while my brother stayed AFK. Highly recommend to try.

This weapon is in my experience useful from the moment you get it to post Moonlord simply because of the knockback, but it has some pretty good damage for mid hardmode.
As a mage myself I never do the old one's army, shame I was missing out on a really good weapon My recommendation for another good weapon is the crystal storm, it's got low mana usage and is great against enemies without knockback immunity, you can stun-lock those nasty tortoises really easily with it.
I accidentally discovered this weapon in my last expert playthrough and it blew me away. Certainly using it for the rest of my future mage playthroughs from now on.

There are many ways to cheese OOA, one of my favorites is the platform replace hoik, where the mobs cannot go past the hoik, so your only problem is flying enemies
I feel like I don’t hear enough praise for the venom staff. This weapon carried me all the way to the cultist, killing fishron too, from the mechs. It’s got a small usage timeframe I guess, but its infinite pierce, venom debuff, and high damage makes it my go to.

It's a really good weapon for a casual playthrough and even better for a mage, but it's just so much work and if you're doing a pure magic class playthrough that the old ones army event is pretty much impossible since you don't have the sentries since they don't do magic damage. Overall it's good but a bit top out of the way to be worth it, since in the time it can take you to get it you could have gotten ether the life drain or the crystal serpent and killed most mechs already and possibly plantera as well
Honestly such was the case for me as well until I farmed enough events to be able to purchase the Apprentice's set of armor, which works incredible well with the fire based sentries. The T2 Old One's Army was a breeze after that.
It's also just fun with it's unique type of attack, only thing that'd make it more fun is if it's wind picked lighter enemies up and kept them tethered to the tornado, but the knockback works too.
Try using the right turret. The ballista turret, specifically. There's literally no excuse to use any of the other ones. Let's start at 'infinite piercing' and end at 'highest damage.' It's the only one worth using for crowd control. (Might be edge cases for the other sentries OUTSIDE the event, but not worth the defender medals.) Using any other turret rod/staff/cane is functionally doing the DD event in 10x difficulty.
Tip: with a flat arena, 2 wood and a hammer, you can literally cheese every ground enemies in the OOA event. Here is how to do it: place the wood block down, hammer it to make a holk (inverted slope), then block swap it with a platform. Repeat with the other side. Make sure that the holk platform push you away from the crystal, and that's it. Since OOA enemies ignore platform, they will try to walk pass the glitched platform, and get pushed back. You still have to deal with air unit though.
armys a little better if you make the floor from conveyors, just bring all the loot to the middle and have some long ranged stuff to deal with the portals, post golem i load it up with actuator'd traps and that makes it way better.
4 sho worth it. I got it late hardmode, and I realized what I was missing out on. Not only does it shred plantera, but it is stupidly powerful on the pillars.
You know, I never really found old ones army hard to farm loot for, I mean sure if your going for a “pure” run it’s impossible but just… use the turrets the tavern keep sells you, and in the lower tier difficulty grind the coins then… it makes it so much easier having all the turrets you can summon just damaging smaller adds while you focus the big guys
I recommend getting Crystal Serpent/Sky Fracture and then kill the twins Make Magical Harp, Golden Shower (if available), Spirit Flame, and use those to clear the event. Grindy, but helpful for Master mode or harder.

If you are on a corrupt world, you can use the clinger staff to make old ones army way easier. Any enemy that takes knockback physically cannot get past the cursed flames so you can shut down one side of the event completely
I like doing Old One's army but it's scaled a little weird. I feel like the armor is perfectly placed, but the weapons should be obtainable the tier before. The first armor set should be post one mech boss, but the first weapons should be post WoF. They quickly get out paced by other weapons and are too difficult to get to be worth it.
I've never had any issie with old ones army, it's super easy to farm and if you're having troubles you can just use platform hoiks to keep grounded enemies at bay so all you have to worry about it the flyers

use Explosive Trap sentry, placed close to portal can make OOA a breeze, if you have problem with it early on. even without set bonus it still very powerful compared to the other 3 in this event it gets mistreated for so long it even a buff despite its power.
i always go for tome of wisdom, not grinding for it alone. as i always farm for the late game old ones army to get the betsy staff, and for that i need the medals and sentries.
Okay, I am one of the few people I know who likes the OOA event. But since I main summoner and like the stuff it has I always find it fun. But when I do it and get this weapon drop I always drop any other armor and go for the forbidden set, as not only is the mixed class style fun to me, but seeing how fast you can kill almost anything at that point in the game by combining a whip hit for tag damage increase, and the sets tornado for max damage, I'd suggest trying it out with the blade staff if you want to try, very fun!
I really, really wish Terraria had more mixed armor sets. They're some of the coolest ways to play the game, hands down, even if you discount their set bonuses.
I absolutely Agree, The tome of wisdom is amazing weapon. However obtaining it was a full blown adventure in my case, master mode really treats the Old one's army like a toy. Obtaining this Item unlocked my brain's full potencial of thinking. But its good.
In my most recent Terraria run I defeated the Twins and immediately set out to tackle the Old One's Army. Several ogres later I finally obtained this beast of a weapon, which allowed me to obliterate Duke Fishron (and obtain the Razorblade Typhoon first time, miraculously), followed by the ownage of the rest of the game honestly. Please people, do not sleep on this weapon!
Mobile can't use secondary abilities/attacks, as it hinders them too much, and on consoles it requires an extra keybind that could be better suited used elsewhere.
I have zero knowledge of this, i haven't played terraria since 1.2, so pls be gentle in explaining I get that terraria has so many weapons to count, but what's with the character classes? Wouldn't a more diverse arsenal be better than just having exclusively swords, guns, or staffs in your inventory? Also how do these classes work? When you choose the range class for example, you can't get melee or magic weapons? Or you still get them, but can't use them?
your confusion honestly isnt misplaced, people treat the four classes really rigidly sometimes. The classes are only seperated by "damage type" guns and bows do ranged damage, swords and yoyos do mele damage for example. The classes are chosen by the player as they find weapons they like. the damage type can be increased with certain accessories, and no weapons are barred from the player at any point in the game. "Hybrid" classes are very common! using multiple types of weapon is very beneficial. "pure" classes are typically a self imposed challenge to only use weapons of one damage type. You actually can run a multi class, but mostly armor set bonuses is focus on a single class. Also, a lot of people wanna save the time by not making different spesific class armor, accessories, buffs, and weapons. Besides, a lot of people love the challenge of sticking to one class the whole playthrough
Basically, with some exceptions, most armors grant bonuses to just one of four variants of attack damage (Melee, Ranged, Mage, and Summon) and it is found better to use weapons that benefit from these bonuses unless it is a "support weapon" that Inflicts a desired debuff or increases you life regeneration!

I prefer using the Crystal Vile shard because it can do the same thing to the Destroyer, but it is far easier to get. You should do a video on it!!!

Tbh, I usually use the Super Star Shooter on Destroyer whilst it is is it’s clump, allowing me to decimate the boss in just a few seconds

But when I do it and get this weapon drop I always drop any other armor and go for the forbidden set, as not only is the mixed class style fun to me, but seeing how fast you can kill almost anything at that point in the game by combining a whip hit for tag damage increase, and the sets tornado for max damage, I'd suggest trying it out with the blade staff if you want to try, very fun!
I really, really wish Terraria had more mixed armor sets. They're some of the coolest ways to play the game, hands down, even if you discount their set bonuses.

I absolutely Agree, The tome of wisdom is amazing weapon. However obtaining it was a full blown adventure in my case, master mode really treats the Old one's army like a toy. Obtaining this Item unlocked my brain's full potencial of thinking.
But its good.
Honestly some of the tier two dungeon defenders 2 weapons are really underrated; the first weapon that comes to mind is the Phantom Phoenix.

In my most recent Terraria run I defeated the Twins and immediately set out to tackle the Old One's Army. Several ogres later I finally obtained this beast of a weapon, which allowed me to obliterate Duke Fishron (and obtain the Razorblade Typhoon first time, miraculously), followed by the ownage of the rest of the game honestly. Please people, do not sleep on this weapon!

Mobile can't use secondary abilities/attacks, as it hinders them too much, and on consoles it requires an extra keybind that could be better suited used elsewhere.

I get that terraria has so many weapons to count, but what's with the character classes? Wouldn't a more diverse arsenal be better than just having exclusively swords, guns, or staffs in your inventory?
Also how do these classes work? When you choose the range class for example, you can't get melee or magic weapons? Or you still get them, but can't use them?
your confusion honestly isnt misplaced, people treat the four classes really rigidly sometimes. The classes are only seperated by "damage type" guns and bows do ranged damage, swords and yoyos do mele damage for example. The classes are chosen by the player as they find weapons they like. the damage type can be increased with certain accessories, and no weapons are barred from the player at any point in the game. "Hybrid" classes are very common! using multiple types of weapon is very beneficial. "pure" classes are typically a self imposed challenge to only use weapons of one damage type. You actually can run a multi class, but mostly armor set bonuses is focus on a single class. Also, a lot of people wanna save the time by not making different spesific class armor, accessories, buffs, and weapons. Besides, a lot of people love the challenge of sticking to one class the whole playthrough
Basically, with some exceptions, most armors grant bonuses to just one of four variants of attack damage (Melee, Ranged, Mage, and Summon) and it is found better to use weapons that benefit from these bonuses unless it is a "support weapon" that Inflicts a desired debuff or increases you life regeneration!
