Mark Thomas (the composer of this piece) was the choir director at our parish st.Thomas Aquinas in bolder Colorado for as long as I can remember, he very recently moved out of state and it was probably one of the saddest moments of my life. His music has a everlasting imprint in my life and this song is my favorite pice
My student teacher at the time, she sang in this choir, played this for my class when I was in middle school & the first time I heard it brought tears to my eyes. This is such a beautiful piece, composed so beautifully. I always come back to this when I want to feel something greater. I want to be sent to Heaven with this playing.
Mark Thomas is the choir director at my home parish, and hearing it live and directed by the composer who wrote it is without a doubt the most transcendent experience I have ever or expect to have this side of heaven.
Our daughter was a member of the Girl's Chorus at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, SC. Mark Thomas, the composer of this piece, was their choir director. One of the most blessed events of her, and our lives.

"Ave Maris Stella" was written in the 8th Century. It's doubtful that Mark Thomas had anything to do with it other than the choral arrangement. This is the Acadian National Anthem, a magnificent hymn of the Catholic Church for centuries, ...being interpreted here in my boyhood parish church St Gregory's.
I love everything about this choir and this specific memory so much
Das Schönste, was ich je gehört habe. Danke.

Yes, same here. I can't really hear this song w/out weeping. It's amazing.

I imagine when I die, if I go to heaven, the choir will sound just like this. I can't imagine being in that church and hearing this performance live.

I heard this the other day via Male Ensemble Northwest. Absolutely beautiful. I needed to hear something like this lately!
I'm speechless. Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful!
Ave, Maris Stella,
Dei mater alma,
Atque semper Virgo,
Felix caeli porta.
Sumens illud Ave,
Gabrielis ore,
Funda nos in pace
Mutans Evae nomen.
Solve vincla reis,
Profer lumen caecis,
Mala nostra pelle,
Bona cuncta posce.
Monstra te esse Matrem,
Sumat per te preces,
Qui pro nobis natus
Tulit esse tuus.
Virgo singularis,
Inter omnes mitis,
Nos, culpis solutos,
Mites fac et castos.
Vitam praesta puram,
Iter para tutum:
Ut, videntes Jesum,
Semper collaetemur.
Sit laus Deo Patri,
Summo Christo decus
Spiritui Sancto,
Tribus honor unus. Amen.
One of the most beautiful choral works ever. Pretty much brings me to tears every time I hear or sing it.
Beautiful !
Why is this not on Apple Music?

Ave, máris stélla,
Déi Máter álma,

From the mouth of Gabriel,

Transforming the name of "Eva".

The music is entirely different: this is not just a choral arrangement.
This is Mark Thomas' original composition. Yes, the words have been around a long time, but this particular music is by Mark Thomas. Incomparable.
Oh, I see. In that case, of course, it's not the "Stella Maris".
