I'll never understand the complaints about Vegapunks speech to be honest. I love that it was this background thing while the fight and escape was still ongoing, to me that feels very cinematic. The world is hearing the truth of the world while the strawhats fight off some of the most evil beings that exists that are also the root cause for a lot of this worlds problems. The following is the translation from my post on facebook OP community:
The passing of Vegapunk seems to have been intentionally foreshadowed from the beginning, especially to emphasize his unique perspective on "death."
During Vegapunk's first introduction, he repeatedly referred to himself as "しがない天才科学者," which humbly means "just a mediocre genius scientist." However, knowing Oda's penchant for wordplay, "しがない" can also be interpreted as "死がない," meaning "won't die."
This ties back to the moment when Marcus Mars first encountered Punk Records and asked, "What is death, and where does thought exist?"
If we look back, Egghead Island is one of the most philosophically rich chapters in One Piece, exploring several deep themes:
1.The Definition of Death: Examined through the experiences of Kuma, the Five Elders, and Vegapunk.
    2. Life's Purpose Amid Suffering: Explored through the struggles of Kuma and Bonney.
    3. The Power of Thought: Illustrated by Punk Records and Nika's will.
    4. Desires as the Source of All Things: Echoed in the title of Chapter 1069 and the origins of Devil Fruits, touching on themes of idealism.
    5. The Nature of Identity: Questioned through the existence of beings without a "heart" - whether they are cyborgs without memories, clones without purpose, or a soldier breaks heart because he has to follow orders.
Using a scientist who should be a "materialist" to bring out this kind of "idealism" creates an interesting sense of conflict. What's even more interesting is that if you look closer, you'll notice that Oda is trying to blur the line between "advanced science" and "divinity". This forces readers to rethink the "definition of a god"
    So, what did Vegapunk achieve?
    1. The creation of the Seraphim.
    2. Achieving a form of immortality through Punk Records.
    3. Creating the sky via the Island cloud machine.
    4. Creating his satellites, mirroring divine incarnations.
    5. The ability to erase memories.
If these accomplishments don’t push the boundaries between science and divinity, then what does?
And the parallels with Imu are now apparent.
Then, Oda brings in the Five Elders, who bear the "name of gods" but have done little other than regenerating themselves, and has them wreak havoc on this "island of science".
This narrative structure of blending and contrasting definitions masterfully illustrates one of One Piece's core themes:
    The clash of ideologies.
Egghead Island is filled with fascinating contrasts and details that align with these central themes. Can't wait for you guys to discover more!

This is a very interesting analysis and you have expanded on some very valid points.
Probably the most pressing Q on everyone's mind now is, 'Is Vegapunk Stella really dead now? What about the other satellites who were killed can they be brought back like Atlas was, after she was injured badly by Tob Lucci? What's gonna happen next with Lilith and York and Punk Records?'
However, for your analysis on this most interesting mystery and the first bit of your comment to make sense to MORE people you ought to have put the Romaji as well as the Japanese script. Not everyone can read Japanese and it's not very easy to look up a few words in an essay on a RUclips channel's comment section, if one's using a cellphone vs a laptop.
You may retort with a 'but I gave the translation', to which I will say that some long time anime watchers may not be able to read the Japanese script but can understand words and phrases if spoken or written in romaji.
And you've lost the chance to reach all these people!

It wasn't my original English script, but I was already frustrated with RUclips comment because it got very weird censoring algorithm, I had to revise it so many times in order to get the greenlight. People have been talking about how the arcsin the latter half of the seires seem to correespond with arcs from the first half, Dressrosa being like Alabasta etc. Taking that into account then Egghead might be the latter half equivalent of Sabaody which and with that the feeling of "Getting on the island and almost immediately getting off" makes a lot of sense. Sabaody was the lead in to the Paramount War and Egghead leads to the "Final War" or whatever it is going to be known as.

Making this concise is difficult. But I'll give it my best shot.
Since this was a transition arc, I didn't expect any major development from our crew. I would have been happier with less reliance on the tropes, though.
I did expect to meet Vegapunk and I did expect to see how the world at large was getting along, and for that I think I got so much more than I bargained for.
Not only did we get our lore dump, but we traveled around the world to see people that were affected in some way shape or form by our crew. In that traveling, we had a chance to reflect on the fact that Luffy has been doing his liberation thing from the beginning.
He started with Coby and he hasn't stopped. But more importantly he didn't do it alone and he didn't do it _for_ anyone, he did it _with_ them.
For those whose lives he touched, we see what freedom means to them. We see how the world is moving and growing and changing, what our crew affected and what went on without them.
That's what I expected from a transition arc. And that's what we got.

I think the reason people feel so differently about post-time skip than pre-timeskip is that with pre- Oda wrote a character driven story. He himself has admitted to the story being so long is because Luffy's (and the crew's) personality drives where they go and what will happen as if it's out of his control. But post- has been 100% story driven writing, where Oda has a bunch of ideas where and whom the Straw Hats has to check off their list before the ending and kinda forces them into it. Not once since they arrived in the New World has a destination been a choice from Luffy (the whitestrom forced the to Punk Hazard, Law is the reason the went to Dressrosa and Zou, Sanji's kidnapping forced him to Whole Cake, Momo dragged him to Wano and a "shortest straw" contest made him go to Egghead) and not once has an arc been driven by Luffy's sense of andventure and the crew's shenanigans. They have actively been forced into side character status.

With respect to the elders being another power on the side of the World Governemnt, uping the stakes for the final arc, I have been expecting this for a while, but wow! The execution was brilliant. The elders make a truly menacing group. Additionally, the reveal of the God's Knights was unexpected, and a further emphasis that the true power of the World Government has never been the Navy.

I think Vegapunk’s speech will work better in the anime. It was sometimes confusing to read going back and forth between his speech and what’s happening in the moment. I loved this arc! But I agree, I missed the SHs... Maybe Oda did that to keep the manga on schedule, relying on the anime to fill up the blanks? And my main complaint is probably the reason for Vegapunk's message to be transmitted by video snails... Either it was to show his flatlined monitor (not really proof of anything if you ask me) OR I missed the point entirely which is very possible '.'

Going based off what happened to the rest of the admirals minus Green Bull, I think Akainu is eventually going to turn his back on the world government as well, it’s no secret that he hates not being able to take initiative or have his ideas or actions snuffed by the higher ups. If anything seeing what happened to the Admirals is exactly the reason why Garp didn’t want to be one, you see how limited their ability to be free is, they’re essentially nothing more than strong body guards for the celestial dragons. Fujitora, Kuzan and now Kizaru have felt and seen how cruel the world government can be and slowly seeing that it isn’t justice. Akainu though i believe he doesn’t really care about the cruelty committed by them as he has done the same. I suspect he’ll be fed up with being chained down to the orders from the five elders, imu, and celestial dragons and won’t take that disrespect any longer.

So I forget if there were already conversations about this alternate translation, but it tickled me because it was a revelation that happened during work of all times. I'm a chef, and was looking up okonomiyaki recipes to tinker with, and got caught up with the translation for the name. Okonomiyaki is made up of two parts: okonomi (whatever you desire) and yaki (grilled, fried, etc). And I began to fixate on okonomi. NOMI NOMI NO MI. So you could almost say it's also the Desire Desire Fruit. Vegapunk's Brain Brain Fruit was incredible for him because combined with his intellect, even if short lived, he created his own microcosm, the world that he desired through and in Egghead.

    Hi, Merph! Excellent video!
Aside from the chinese mythological flood, back then, the OP lore got me watching historical videos for its other themes and narrative outlines. At first, it's just for theories, but it's as if Oda's unifying globally cultural themes (?) into one integrated flow.
You've perhaps encountered some literature on it, but I just want to make sure. Have you associated accounts and articles on (our) Earth's pole shifts and Atlantis's suggested location?
Also, on native american ancient giant red heads named si-te-cah and an alleged "giant sighting" the 2002 iran war?
With mumblings that we end the story in a few years, I find it quite frightening (while still very entertaining), really.

yesterday I remembered how I finished Wano on anime, then started reading the manga. First big thing was the Amazon Lily event with Raleigh, Boa, Blackbeard and Koby - it was crazy at the time! Now after finishing Egghead, its unimaginable how far the plot advanced and how the pieces are set for the future events.
do not underestimate Oda!!! Oda always 1-ups. the final saga will be nothing short of insane, and I feel people's expectations are wayyy too low for what's to come. forget the standard island arc structure and conflicts, everything will happen all at once at the same time and it's going to be crazy.

So silly that people are mad about the battles... this was an arc about story and feelings and lore and love and all that kinda stuff, not fights, the opponents were all either people who are in the middle of brutal introspection and extreme bouts of inner conviction, or the gorosei who obviously aren't intended to be wiped out yet rather than simply introduced in a manner similar to getting to see the power of a Yonko at Marineford without actually having to fight one for much longer. Cept we'll fight the Gorosei for real (and/or other factions will fight them) much sooner this time. Was amazing all around, easily one of my favorite arcs recency bias be damned

    We passed upon the stairs
We spoke of was and when
    Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
    Which came as a surprise
    I spoke into his eyes
    I thought you died alone
    A long long time ago
    Oh no, not me
    We never lost control
    You're face to face
With the man who sold the world
I laughed and shook his hand
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land
For years and years I roamed
    I gazed a gazeless stare
    At all the millions here
    I must have died alone
    A long, long time ago

The only thing I hated, was that I really thought Franky would be a much bigger focus since Vegapunk's stuff is like his inspiration. I feel like between Wano basically barely diving into Zoro's backstory and now Egghead barely diving into Franky's inventiveness - Oda's inevitably had a few things fall through the cracks. Not complaining too much because the rest is absolutely amazing. Loved the backstory for Bonney and Kuma and sooo much lore.

  • @doronrosstuvia3489
    @doronrosstuvia3489 Месяц назад

Eggcellent arc, agreed. My biggest issue is that absolutely none of it is conclusive. We still have so much knowledge missing from devil fruits, god valley, Imu, Garp, the message, Blackbeard’s goal, if Vegapunk is actually dead, what this power of love is, what Zoro wanted from Vegapunk at the start of the arc, how Stussy is connected to Bakkin, how Vegapunk can put Devil Fruits into items, what the Iron Giant was, why Kaido and King were in Punk Hazard, more on Vegapunk’s connection and eventual fallout with Mads, Where Law is, where Shanks was going, what power the Gorosei have, what the mother flame is, etc.
It’s an arc full of questions and teases, which I guess a ton of people love because Reverie is a favorite arc of many people and it is only a few chapters full of more questions.
We did get a super vague answer on devil fruits, we got confirmation of Shanks connection with Elbaf (it was heavily theorized prior), finally got a backstory to both Kuma and Bonnie, got to see kind of what we’re dealing with in terms of the Gorosei, we got a hint to what might be happening with the world flooding, we got to see what Oda was planning with Caribou, insight into Sword and part of BB’s plans, Saul is alive, joyboy hints..
Looking at it in the macro sense, as in how this arc fits into the rest of the series, it doesn’t give us much. In terms of the arc standing on its own in the micro sense, I think it’s excellent. There is a ton of heart, drama, escalation, payoff, surprises, intrigue, and the pacing overall is eggcellent.

I disagree, there's so much subtext being shown through the arc that tells us tons of information. For example, the reverie flashback. This is just the start of the final saga so I think this works great as we have so much more time. Additionally vegapunks message is a monumental moment for the world

    • @doronrosstuvia3489
      @doronrosstuvia3489 Месяц назад +1

@@re_striker3431 I can understand that. I think there are a couple way of seeing Oda’s writing. One of them is saying that we aren’t going to ever get defined answers and any answers we expect to get are within the subtext. That also allows Oda to continue the debate on these topics even after the series is over. It’s definitely possible that it can be that, I just kind of expect more direct answers or a direct solution and I don’t think Egghead has much of that.

(I’ll admit upfront I’m heavily biased).
I , peronsally, felt like the speech being broken up by action sequences, was like a montage of luffy and Bonnie fighting against those who stood in the way of their, and the world’s, freedom in a very real/literal sense; all the while, vegapunk is making the very thing O’Hara was wiped off the map for simply studying… now known to the WORLD.
Stella is fighting the prevailing ideology of the world government, one that has kept the MINDS of many, from truly being free. I felt both of those elements worked in conjunction to really convey the ‘awakening of a new era’ in a physical and metaphysical sense.
There’s no going back now. This is it.

For me, I feel like the Strawhats need to significantly power up before the final arc(whenever that will be). And Egghead kind of proved that, with them needing to run away in order to survive. Honestly, when we're on Elbaf, I wouldn't mind another timeskip towards the end of that Arc, that way we get to explore Elbaf and it's people, bit we don't have to sit through 65 chapters of the Strawhats just training.
