This is one of the best songs by a Motown artist ever released. Besides her magnificent vocals, the Instrumental arrangement is genius. The piano solo. The 🎻 violins/strings are marvelous. Perfection.
Good for you! What great taste you had in music to have chosen this song at so young an age. I probably would have sung the Flying Purple People Eater. I wish I could have heard you sing it.
Why do you all keep saying she is underrated?? She wasn't. Motown knew just how good she was. She just refused to sleep with Gordy and paid the price. She's Motown's best female vocalist, ever.
@@tramp2827 Exactly what I wanted to say. Many think and say that certain artists are underrated, but the hard truth is that the music industry is just like the film, radio and tv industry a dirty mess. You can only survive there if you are willing to sell your soul, and some artists are not willing to go that far. Everything that is hot now has done that for money, attention and fame.
Brenda had the looks and the voice to become a major star. She's another example of a Motown performer who seemed to have a lot of potential that was wasted for one reason or another
Best music ever. Fond memories of listening to Motown music on my AM radio when I was a teenybopper - also, buying their albums after I bought my “hi-fi.” So many great groups. Supremes, Miracles, and Four Tops were my favorites.
I came from the Noreaga "Drink Champs" interview with Patti LaBelle. She mentioned Holloway at the end of the interview. Patti was dropping GEMS in that interview!!!
Just thought about the song and searched it and here I am , love this the her vocals the instruments , and the words. My mom was the one who brought her seven kids 45’s and albums , every time listen the music I think about her .
Another Great performer aND BEAUTIFUL WOMAN from New Orleans whose soul sound is fantastic. One of my favorites of all time, this 1964 hit was a big part of my growing up in Lake Charles, La. Hope to see her perform it one day.
Many artists have tried to replicate this song. 2024 no one has come close. You can feel her voice sympathy in this song that really matter her heart went into it.
I love Brenda Holloway...What a voice! Warm, soulful and such nuance. Always loved this song--great arrangement--gospel style piano. Recorded in California. I think she was one of Motown's greatest singers.
I can't get enough of hearing and listening to this song! And Brenda with that great voice! I probably can't think of enough words to describe how awesome it is! Berry Gordy should have really invested in her. She is dynamic! I had the 45 record that somebody in my family brought back in the'60's. It wasn't me, I was a little boy when this song was out. And probably didn't find out that some family member brought it until about the time before or after first becoming a teenager.
This beautiful singer came out with this song when I was in high school and it is one of my favorites. One of the top female vocalist of all time along with Irma Thomas.
Mr. Gordy somehow knew that if added Orchestral Music Also, the Sound will remain great then and today! This was the best sounding Song that year It was released!
Did you get to see her in more recent years do this song on a PBS special? OMG! Check it out! I’m sure it’s here on RUclips. She built the intensity of the song and then let loose with a note that was about an hour long as she sashayed across the stage like it was nothing. One of the best performances of anything ever!
This is PURE CLASSIC🥰🥰🥰💥💯💯💯 Brenda Holloway was so Talented, Beautiful Vocalist, her longevity in the Music industry was so short😮, always seems to happen to the VERY BEST😊, this song just "BLOWS " me to another Universe, the Melody is Breathless 🎉🎉🎉 beyond WORDS!!!
Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every night I cry Every night I sigh Every night I wonder why You treat me cold Yet you won't let me go Every little hurt counts Every little hurt counts You say you're coming home Yet you never phone Leave me all alone My love is strong for you I'd do wrong for you I can't take this Loneliness you've given me I can't go on Giving my life away Oh, come back to me Darling, you'll see I can give you all the Things that you wanted before If you will stay with me, yeah Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts To you, I'm a toy And you're the boy Who has to say When I should play Yet you hurt me, desert me Come back to me Darling, you'll see I can give you all the Things that you wanted before If you will stay with me, yeah Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts
Not true, did you grow up in the US? Southern Soul in the US refers to Stax, Atlantic, Muscle Shoals and related music. The term was not widely used, but it am was well known. It was basically how to differentiate from City Soul music, like Motown
Yes but never referenced as Northern or Southern soul. The term only has been used in England to describe the music played in the all-nighter dance clubs in the north of England which was usually obscure unknown 60s and 70s records.Because we share (somewhat) a common language this description which is appropriate in England but does not the way its described in the USA. The description of soul music in the US is by CITY not buy region Chicago soul. Philly soul. Memphis Soul East Bay soul(Oakland Ca).Born and raised in East Los Angeles in a large Mexican American family with 6 older siblings all record buyers and dancers, so all of those dances mentioned in the we're duely danced. The prominent radio in ELA was mot the powerhouse KRLA or KHJ. It was KGFJ, the soul Powerhouse.I personally had the good fortune of being taken to thr Shrine Auditorium in 1965 And 66 to see the James Brown Review. Least to say a very profound experience for an 11 year old boy...Record collector since. Respectfully EddieR from ELA
2024 and this song is from my Mom's time as a young adult!!! I was born in 1962 and inherited a hell of a music collection thank GOD even Broadway Plays!!! 😁😊
She was un supporterd by Gordy in Mowtown A personal slight im.my opinion. She would have been the all time soul .Motown female singer. No disrespect to Diana Ross
If I remember right, she wanted to join the Whispers, but they decided a woman wasn't the profile wouldn't work for the way they needed the group to go. They went to the same high school I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Classic. This song could be released today and sell millions.
It was a generation that admired the one's before them ,now what's left of that generation is questionable
Recorded so long ago … and still so good today in 2024 !!!!!
I was ten years old when I first heRd this masterpiec, I'm now 68 and it still captivates me.

This is one of the best songs by a Motown artist ever released. Besides her magnificent vocals, the Instrumental arrangement is genius. The piano solo. The 🎻 violins/strings are marvelous. Perfection.

I have loved this tune for years, what ever happen to this kind of music?
Most underrated singer ever out of Motown. She still gives me the hives with this song
She had a great voice ,wrote her own material as good as any of the men at Motown and she was beautiful !!! But Berry Gordy couldnt handle her.....
We've always have had a treasure trove of talent in Detroit. And I'm proud being a Michigander to claim Motown as our own home grown talent
Why do you all keep saying she is underrated?? She wasn't. Motown knew just how good she was. She just refused to sleep with Gordy and paid the price. She's Motown's best female vocalist, ever.

I love this song
We know which singers we like or love. You and I bring them up to hear them again.❤❤
Brenda had the looks and the voice to become a major star. She's another example of a Motown performer who seemed to have a lot of potential that was wasted for one reason or another
Looking at her the clarity of voice, the poise and natural elegance, she would have been perfect for Burt Bacharach type music .
I'm 69 years old. I use to sing this for my sisters and brother. I was about 10 years and still remember the words today.❤❤
This used to be the jam. 🫶🏾
What a voice and lyrics. A by gone era.!!!! Nothing compares to Motown.❤
Best music ever. Fond memories of listening to Motown music on my AM radio when I was a teenybopper - also, buying their albums after I bought my “hi-fi.” So many great groups. Supremes, Miracles, and Four Tops were my favorites.
To watch the young move to this kind of soul made it so special growing up under them in the 60s, my hat's off to my older generation
Damn near in tears every time I hear it. What a voice
I was 15 years old when this song was released. Brings back memories. Still sounds great
I came from the Noreaga "Drink Champs" interview with Patti LaBelle. She mentioned Holloway at the end of the interview. Patti was dropping GEMS in that interview!!!

Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every night I cry
Every night I sigh
Every night I wonder why
You treat me cold
Yet you won't let me go
Every little hurt counts
Every little hurt counts
You say you're coming home
Yet you never phone
Leave me all alone
My love is strong for you
I'd do wrong for you
I can't take this
Loneliness you've given me
I can't go on
Giving my life away
Oh, come back to me
Darling, you'll see
I can give you all the
Things that you wanted before
If you will stay with me, yeah
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
To you, I'm a toy
And you're the boy
Who has to say
When I should play
Yet you hurt me, desert me
Come back to me
Darling, you'll see
I can give you all the
Things that you wanted before
If you will stay with me, yeah
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Ya
Right on 🎤🎼🎵🎶💙🖤❤️💚
Excellent!
Stax /Atco is the king of Southern Soul Music
The term "Northern"soul or "Southern" soul only applies to England. Not the USA. Thank you.
