When I was a teen I had a poster of this car in my bedroom, there was a girl in a swimsuit laying on the trunk/windshield. I used to dream I could have both the car, the girl in the swimsuit. Twenty years later, after much struggle and a lot of willpower, I finally gathered the confidence to head to the nearest Walmart and buy me a swimsuit.

thanks Doug for mentioning the Alpine Car Stereo Countach poster you had on your bedroom wall. I was the art director and created the concept and directed the photography. When Ford bought Lamborghini and the 25th anniversary Countach was introduced we traveled to Detroit to shoot the first production model to reach the USA. We used a fork lift to place it onto the steel table "pedestal" after building a 60 ft. wide backdrop wall of rivet steel. However, as this was before Photoshop, we got in deep trouble for removing the wheel weights to clean up the rims.
Car dealership: "Doug, when would you like to drive the Countach?" Doug: "Anytime! Preferably when there's a Hurricane" Car dealership: "We don't have a Huracán in stock....' Doug: "No, i meant drive it during the hurricane"
When we were kids in the 90s, my brother and I had like 6 Hot Wheels Countach toy cars that relatives gave us as gifts. They look so ridiculous that through most of my childhood I assumed the Countach was just some fictional car that only existed as a Hot Wheels toy. It's like a stealth bomber made of cocaine.

I was in a 1985 Countach 5000s when it was brand new maybe it was an '84. They are quick for sure. It's crazy to watch the white lines of the road dissapear under the windshield. It belonged to a player on the Detroit Lions. The guy who gave me a ride in it worked for an exotic car tune down company in the Chicago area. They were out joy riding in it before tunning it down to American standards. It was crazy we were just kids hanging at McDonalds when they rolled in. Damn did it sound cool and loud.

There has never been a car in my life that made me more excited to look at it than this one. I was born in 1975 and this car if this car was the coolest thing in the world when I was in 8th grade. I don't know if I would ever enjoy owning a car like this one but if I had to pick 1 car for the rest of my life to put into the corner of my living room, this is the car. This car brings back so many memories! I remember as a child I had a hotwheels car that I played with all the time and it was my favorite. It even had a red interior and I thought it was so cool with the white exterior. Then right after I got a Playstation I remember playing Need 4 Speed: Hot Pursuit and selecting this car all the time. I haven't thought about this car at all since then and I feel like I just had a whole chapter of my memories unlocked seeing it.

I was a teenager when this car was out and to me, this was my dream car in the mid 80's. Had posters, scale model/die cast cars, etc... of the Countach. Ok, so watching the review here some 30+ years later, this thing obviously is quirky and has various engineering flaws. Nevertheless, in the 80's, everyone drooled over this car. I still think the car looks amazing by it's shape and aesthetic features, even by today's standards. Now, I realize that there's a ton of people under 40 years old who might laugh, call it lame or not "get it". Unless you lived in that era and dreamt of this car, you wouldn't "get it" and those are the ones mainly badmouthing comments here. To me, I still think the car looks amazing, performs great and stood the test of time for how futuristic it was in the mid 80's. I never did get my Countach. Frankly, I don't want one, have a need for one or have $300k in pocket change...but I will say that it's still my favorite car out there, deep inside. But hey, that's what growing up in the 80's was like. Lot of fun, cheesey and fresh things out there that made lasting memories and impressions. Loved the detailed review!

I'd say you're a rare exception from the majority of population equal to your age bracket to be this wise at your age and have an appreciation for this car, as it was out roughly 15 years before you were even born. I also agree about what you said about the engineering. Lot of people are missing the punchline here. It's the quirky engineering details that actually make this car unique and timeless. Those who drive the Countach seem to have a love/hate attitude toward it, as the quirks are unsafe, uncomfortable, lacking sense and not practicle, yet strangely addicting. So, whether good or bad products over the years, the ones that always remain iconic are the ones that are unique and stand out from the crowd (insert Atari 2600, NES, Mellotron, Hammond B3, Les Paul guitar, 1957 Chevy, Rolex watch, etc...). Cookie-cutter items are generally forgotten about. You make some great points! Thanks for sharing.
Hey Mr K i had the SAME experience as you, and so did 1000's of others-- guys AND gals. And i resorted to the next best thing we could only do-- build a couple of models. I had scored a black model that came with working lights lol! It was cool! And yes today i still like this Countach. I'd do a model again too. And as for the guys who don't get it-- what's out on the market today is ALL WE HAVE FOR NOW but back then well thats all that was out there at the time! And like now we all drooled at them. Of course cars etc will progress in style & technology 2 & 3 decades later! So of course with narrow minded thinking like some do they're gonna say stuff that only exposes that. I want about 20 high end cars built now but I'd take an 89 Lambo in a heartbeat lol! Who wouldn't lol.

I was thinking the same thing. Getting in and out with wet feet and clothes and getting rain on everything inside and in the trunk and the front. I'd beat someone doing that my car even if it was thousand dollar car let alone a 300k lambo.
I'm sure the wiper position was designed for right hand drive and works just fine in that set up. Had a 86 impulse with a single wiper design which worked very well.
It's ridiculous, over the top and every part of the car is a mess... but man does it look awesome rolling down the street. If the 80's were a car it would be this one.

I was a teenager when this car was out and to me, this was my dream car in the mid 80's. Had posters, scale model/die cast cars, etc... of the Countach. Ok, so watching the review here some 30+ years later, this thing obviously is quirky and has various engineering flaws. Nevertheless, in the 80's, everyone drooled over this car. I still think the car looks amazing by it's shape and aesthetic features, even by today's standards. Now, I realize that there's a ton of people under 40 years old who might laugh, call it lame or not "get it". Unless you lived in that era and dreamt of this car, you wouldn't "get it" and those are the ones mainly badmouthing comments here. To me, I still think the car looks amazing, performs great and stood the test of time for how futuristic it was in the mid 80's. I never did get my Countach. Frankly, I don't want one, have a need for one or have $300k in pocket change...but I will say that it's still my favorite car out there, deep inside. But hey, that's what growing up in the 80's was like. Lot of fun, cheesey and fresh things out there that made lasting memories and impressions. Loved the detailed review!
Mr. K I'm not even 20 yet and tons of these people in the comments just don't appreciate the 80s. Who cares about proper engineering if you own one of the most badass iconic vehicles ever made?
@@notgray88 Awesome! Refreshing to hear this coming from someone under 20 years old. I'd say you're a rare exception from the majority of population equal to your age bracket to be this wise at your age and have an appreciation for this car, as it was out roughly 15 years before you were even born.
I also agree about what you said about the engineering. Lot of people are missing the punchline here. It's the quirky engineering details that actually make this car unique and timeless. Those who drive the Countach seem to have a love/hate attitude toward it, as the quirks are unsafe, uncomfortable, lacking sense and not practicle, yet strangely addicting. So, whether good or bad products over the years, the ones that always remain iconic are the ones that are unique and stand out from the crowd (insert Atari 2600, NES, Mellotron, Hammond B3, Les Paul guitar, 1957 Chevy, Rolex watch, etc...). Cookie-cutter items are generally forgotten about. You make some great points!

Hey Mr K i had the SAME experience as you, and so did 1000's of others-- guys AND gals. And i resorted to the next best thing we could only do-- build a couple of models. I had scored a black model that came with working lights lol! It was cool! And yes today i still like this Countach. I'd do a model again too. And as for the guys who don't get it-- what's out on the market today is ALL WE HAVE FOR NOW but back then well thats all that was out there at the time! And like now we all drooled at them. Of course cars etc will progress in style & technology 2 & 3 decades later! So of course with narrow minded thinking like some do they're gonna say stuff that only exposes that. I want about 20 high end cars built now but I'd take an 89 Lambo in a heartbeat lol! Who wouldn't lol.

It's like they thought the steering wheel was going on the other side.
Pretty sure they never bothered to switch the windshield wipers to the wrong side of the car when they shifted the steering wheel and seating position for import into the US.

I'm sure the wiper position was designed for right hand drive and works just fine in that set up. Had a 86 impulse with a single wiper design which worked very well.
