  • Unlike Boxe or Muay Thai, where the guard is done with the hands, in jiu-jitsu, the guard's concept is done with the legs. Keeping your feet off the ground and following your opponent by moving your hips is also an essential part of the guard. In this video, I show the guard's basics and how you can practice the Technical Stand Up without a partner's need. Check it out and let me know the result!

    Excellent. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I feel like I struggle with this - I am going to drill it as you’ve demonstrated until it becomes muscle memory

    Thank you very much professor! When you kick your opponent before stand up, where do you kick? Shin or ankle or the knee?

    • @ThomasLisboa
      @ThomasLisboa  2 года назад

      Hi Eric. To block a kick, I'd kick the knee or below.

    Professor, my teacher taught that I can turn with both legs in the air only if he turns slowly around me, but if he turns fast I must use the leg on the same side of the turn to move and the other leg to keep it even higher as a shield, is this correct ?

      Hi, Miguel. There are a few variations for the technical stand-up. What I showed are the basics so you can practice by yourself. But if your teacher told you something different, I recommend you to believe in him. There are many ways to do something right in jiu-jitsu. And everyone has a different approach which is great for the sport.
      All the best! 🤜🤜
