BugPope I think a dude from Lucas Arts point n clicks went on to found Humongous Entertainment which also explains why the puzzles are pretty good sometimes too
Is there a Pajama Sam for a crippling fear of failure that prevents you from even getting out of bed most mornings and quickly spirals into uncontrollable depression and self loathing? I'm uh... I'm asking for a friend.
Extra surprising considering Davegrossman was the writer of this game and worked on the first PJ Sam, aswell as Monkey island and other lucasarts point and click games. And those are full of puns and word play
I feel like they should have been named "rain and thunder". then it'd have made more sense especially with how one is a god damn rain cloud. heck rain is often a symbol of calmness so it works there as well!
brutalmoose I can't argue with that- mostly because I really love your videos and I wouldn't want you depressed in the bathroom. Even if your industrial vocabulary is severely lacking. Love the videos and the overall content you do. Over the years you've inspired me to replay many of my childhood favourites and it's been a blast. And might I suggest Legoland for PC? :^)
Space Marketeer Kelly I second the Legoland recommendation! Possibly my earliest non-edutainment game, and a really nostalgic one at that. (I think it's also what made three-year-old me terrified of aliens. :p )
Thank you, for real, thank you for covering the Humongous Entertainment games, specifically Pajama Sam. His games are among my most favorite of all time, and these reviews really do him justice. You are fantastic, Ian.
Best Pajama Sam game hands down, the atmosphere of world wide weather just felt so fun and expansive. For some reason I just really loved being able to explore an office building where all the workers were also office supplies. Always felt bad for that trashcan. I always admired his rebellious spirit as he said "One of these days we trash cans are gonna unionize!"
How about reviewing "Pajama Sam 3: You are what you eat from your head to your feet" and "Pajama Sam 4: Life is Rough when you loose stuff"? When I was little my copy of Pajama Sam 2 came with a small plush of Pajama Sam and I was also a big fan of Spy Fox, the one where Spy Fox sounded like Don Adams, could you do PC reviews on Spy Fox?
I'll review the rest of the PJ Sam games in time, I just don't want to do them all at once. And yes! I did a video over the first Spy Fox game, though it is a fairly old video. I've also covered some Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish games, as well as Fatty Bear! I'm a big fan of Humongous Entertainment's Junior Adventure series.
That's kinda weird that you had so much trouble with the pot of gold, as a kid I never had trouble with that part. I always had trouble with the mushroom thing and the snowflake inspector.
I remember finding the gold by complete accident just from playing around with the machine. Sometimes, finishing these games is more about basic five-year-old curiosity than imaginative puzzle-solving.
Even with all the off-the-wall humor, it's nice to see you reviewing these children's games earnestly. A lot of people wouldn't take the time to review kid's games, saying things like, "Well, they're kid's games. They're probably just shit." Stay cool, Ian.
Hey moose how do you get your hair like that, please answer. Like do you use hairgel, or is it naturally like that, and what's the name of the hairstyle?
No hair gel! I just wash/condition my hair, push it back out of my face, and let it dry. The official name of the hairstyle is "I haven't had a haircut in months"
in my case to get that hair my official name of this is "I haven't had my monthly haircut... YES my hair grows that quickly so any haircut i get gets destroyed in a month"
When trying to guess where and how you'd get those coins from I got this image in my head of Sam manhandling the Chairman and discovering some change hidden underneath his cushion. Now that would've been something!
As someone who used to play this game constantly as a kid (and even now in my late 20's just for fun lol), I'm SO glad you covered Thunder and Lighting Aren't So Frightening! It's such a beautiful game. And with my favorite Sam voice, Pamela Segall Adlon!
That moment when you play-through Pajama Sam3 and realize:This is an children's game with talking food and it's a thousand times more mature than Sausage Party an adult movie with talking food! There are so much hidden adult topics in that game. It's incredible!
Oh my gosh...THANK YOU for talking about the vending machine thing! I played this game for the first time a few years ago with two of my friends in college and we were stuck on that part forever. I did eventually say "Hey, what if we grew a rainbow and got coins from the pot of gold at the end of it!?" we all laughed and thought that would be stupid. One of my friends even said they'd pay for the next pizza if that were the case and...sure enough.
TheYoYoItsJ Well, you can still call people dear without being married to them. I have plenty of older ladies call me dear and honey and all that jazz.
Pajama Sam 2 was the first Pajama Sam game I ever played. I remember the demo for it on my Blue's Clues ABC Time Activities CD-ROM as well as other Humongous demos like Putt-Putt Travels Through Time and Freddi Fish 3.
Oh man i had the same Blue's Clues game! I remember thinking Pajama Sam looked rad, never did get a copy of it, though I did score a ton of the classic Backyard Sports games at garage sales when I was young, so there's a victory.
I haven't played these games, so it's always a treat hearing you talk about what you enjoyed so much as a kid, Ian. Even if this one didn't blow you away, I really enjoyed your overview of it. Definitely a solid way to cap off a Sunday.
The game apparently says they're sisters? It must be a really easy to miss line because people both assume Thunder is male based on her voice and less femme appearance, and think they're lovers, not sisters. I know I thought they were married when I was a child xD
So hold on; Pajama Sam, the kid playing the role of a children's hero, causes countless natural disasters throughout the world because he decided to stumble on his superhero cape and landed his "Pajama'd Butt" (tm Brutalmoose 2017) on the big-red-but-suspciously-unprotected-button which triggers natural disasters? ...hmm, these games may be fun and smiles, but someone oughta question Sam's true motives. He's more of a disguised villain if you ask me... (and also because I felt the need to nitpick the story of a Humonguous Entertainment point-and-click videogame, feel free to add your laugh track of choice)
Fantastic work man. Love how the production quality and overall quality of your videos seems to always improve. One day I will make videos as good as this
Okay, I'm sorry if I sound weird or cheesy, but I just want to take a moment to say thank you. I was in an art compitition earlier today, and my art teacher also put my work on display for judging, (and I won't hear about the results until Wednesday) and because of it I obviously left with an anxious feeling. But basically, after watching some videos and hearing you talk about games in a rather relaxed and calm demenor has helped me calm down a bit. In short, thank you.
Great review! I can't wait for your eventual Pajama Sam 3 review -- that one was my favorite as a kid. Especially eating the bon-bons in the prison cell at the beginning of the game. I really loved that for some reason. I also remember seeing the game available for the PlayStation around that time at Toys R Us and my mind being blown.
10:20 With a joke like that I'm surprised there was no mention of the secret easter egg where Pajama Sam takes a shit. It's a real thing kinda like how when freddie fish feeds Luther to Eddie, look it up.
Though these were in the games files, they are not accessible through the game itself. They are believed to be stress relievers for the developers. It's actually a very common occurrence in video games in general.
AH THE NOSTALGIA! This was the game I played every day. Could never get past the vending machine, I'm glad it wasn't easy to figure out even for you, now I feel better about myself. :P Great video as always!
I played this on the library in fifth grade. I could never figure out the scenario where a part was in a bathroom and you could see its cord sticking out from under the door. You needed to answer some trivia questions to get a key to the bathroom, but the last one is too complicated for Sam. According to a walkthrough I read years later, the character who can answer that question is the nose of a snowman character, which I never would have figured out. Talking to the snowman himself gave no hints about his nose, so how they expected kids to figure that out is beyond me.
I always wanted this game when I was a kid because Pajama Sam 1 rocked so hard but my dad (arbiter of computer games in our house) wouldn't buy it for me because he said I wasn't afraid of thunder and lightning. I remember saying, "So you bought me the first one because you thought I was afraid of the dark?!" And he said yes and I said, "I wasn't..." and he said, "Oh." So I guess I'm lucky I even got to play the first one!
Seattle in the summer of 2021 hit 110° While calling the state the amount of complaints I received was shocking. I instantly thought of pajama sam messing with the weather
This game took me back. I grew up with it. But I only now realise that talking Y asks "Why?" the whole time because it's pronounced the same way as "Y". I grew up with the Dutch version of the game, and in the Dutch language the name of that character/its shape and the word "why" don't have the same pronunciation.
i just noticed that at 5:21 all the monitors show horrible weather and conditions but seattle all bright and sunny the world really has turned upside down
+BagFaceMan It's about a boy who dies in a car crash while saving a kid, while dead he meets the "Grim Reaper" Botan. She tells him that he can come back to life by becoming a Spirit Detective. (That's the most I can say without spoiling)
i got pajama sam 3 out of a cereal box oddly enough, and i'm pretty excited to hear the possibility of you playing it another time! i love all your videos but it's super exciting hearing you talk about, or even just hint at, something i remember from my own childhood!
I knew Pajama Sam's voice sounded familiar. He's voiced by the sames actress who voiced Bobby Hill in King of the Hill.
I've found out about the same thing.
Dammit Bobbeh.
oh
ok den
Bigg al pj sam 2, is a toilet game bobby
Bigg al Now that I saw this comment it does sound like it
Sam: Hey, that one looks sunny!
Lightning: I know. Unfortunately, that's Seattle. Oh, what a mess.
These games, oh my god
The writing is surprisingly clever for a nineties kids game.
BugPope I think a dude from Lucas Arts point n clicks went on to found Humongous Entertainment which also explains why the puzzles are pretty good sometimes too
Just doesn't work that well for an international audience.
I guess British audience should have ... Slough? .. or maybe UK as a whole.
As a kid growing up in Seattle, it felt like this game was made for me.
@@Liggliluff Sure it does, since this is edutainment you just got a little more edu out of it.
Is there a Pajama Sam for a crippling fear of failure that prevents you from even getting out of bed most mornings and quickly spirals into uncontrollable depression and self loathing? I'm uh... I'm asking for a friend.
Oh I loved Pajama Sam 5: Crippling Depression Ain't No Obsession.
nopenopenope somuchnope Or outside of the US: Pajama Sam in: I Hate Life and All of Its Strife.
These are both games I never knew I needed until now
Pajama Sam 6: There’s No Point In Trying I’d Rather Be Dying
Poirot's Mustache how about Pajama Sam 4: My wife is a .... noying
SID: "I'm feeling a bit.."
Me: "Under the weather?"
SID:"...run down."
Me: ".......really?"
I thought the same exact thing
B-Rex he means he’s fixing to brake and needs to be fixed
SID: “I don’t feel so good...”
Extra surprising considering Davegrossman was the writer of this game and worked on the first PJ Sam, aswell as Monkey island and other lucasarts point and click games. And those are full of puns and word play
I'm willing to bet it was an intentional bait and switch, like of course we'd say that, but we didnt bc that's what you were expecting.
I'm honestly surprised SID didn't make the obvious "I'm feeling under the weather" joke.
Sonamy37 he does! Much like puzzles, dialogue in HE games is occasionally randomized.
Me too, I was waiting for it
So was I.
I think that was the joke.
Sonamy37 yeah I was feeling it and was disappointed when it didn't
I really like how thunder doesn't talk until after lightning because lightning always comes before thunder
Sam: "do not lose this card."
*5 seconds later*
Sam: "I think it ate the card."
Me: YOU HAD ONE JOB!
Interesting how Lightning is the noisy one and not Thunder. Is it just me that I find that odd?
Gat the Man huh. Guess you just don't think about stuff like that until you hear it. It is weird that they did that.
I feel like they should have been named "rain and thunder". then it'd have made more sense especially with how one is a god damn rain cloud. heck rain is often a symbol of calmness so it works there as well!
Thunder Looks like one of the pelones
I'm sure they did that on purpose
retosius It's more irony than anything, Thunder is an extremely loud noise caused by clouds and lightning, but she's the quiet one.
Whenever BrutalMoose uploads, my day gets better.

Freezing Winter. Shoulda said brighter, then it would have been a weather pun.

All words that you could have used but instead "box moving tractor."
bravo.
Ahahaha. My only defense is that I'm no box moving tractor driver, I just play games for children.

True, that can't be healthy. :p
Great White Sharki his hair is part of his skin
His mom bought him colloidal silver off of InfoWars.
He's probably just used to that, it's been that way since he was a baby. We need to relax. It's just a game. *totally not a mst3k joke*
Pajama Sam: Arsenic on a Plate Ain't That Great
(It was the only thing I could come up with that related to arsenic poisoning, sorry.)
5:22 Did you notice how they have sun shining in Seattle to represent unusual weather?
Sams animations are so high quality and the backgrounds are great, the art and animation teams should live forever

2:18 That made me think of the possible last game of the series: Pajama Sam conquers his fear of death in "No need to cry, you're about to die"
"About to" implies that his death is imminent, and that he dies in the course of the game.
There already is a Pajama Sam 3. "You are what you eat, something something something." I remember playing it.
Watch the end.
Saw that now, yeah.
Noice.
It's "Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat, From Your Head To Your Feet".
PJ3 was the only game in the series i played, but it was really fun I thought. Excited for a vid on it
It's called Pajama Sam 3: Before You Click Send, Please Wait Until The End
Having Sid say “I feel a little under the weather” was a real missed opportunity

The weather making room was actually my favorite part
Oh my gosh...THANK YOU for talking about the vending machine thing! I played this game for the first time a few years ago with two of my friends in college and we were stuck on that part forever. Thunder and Lightning seem like girlfriends
They're sisters. Though I guess they *could* still be girlfriends.

Also 14:09 "cleaning up the mess his butt made"
Fantastic work man. Love how the production quality and overall quality of your videos seems to always improve. One day I will make videos as good as this
