Thinking of getting back to riding. I am going to buy a VStar 250. I am 61 and in good shape. I must admit, though, that I am a bit nervous about getting back on a bike. I still enjoy your videos.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate this whole series of Virago vids! I just ordered those beauty bar end mirrors you got so hopefully you get a little kick back on those :)
I did the same thing on my bike but it felt like she was bagging up and then felt ok again and like that for a bit. Wonder if we need to touch the carburator since more air is coming in...but sounds amazing thanks for sharing man, cheers from Europe!
Hey, I know this is an old video, but I'm working on a 2014 yamaha vstar250 and could use some advice and pointers! Your help would be greatly appreciated
I would not recommend using the stock jets. Any changes to the air system (intake or exhaust) can make the bike run to rich or lean. Running lean will over heat the motor and bad things happen. With each change you make, say the intake, raise the jet size a bit, maybw 2 or 3 . Same with the exhaust raise it a couple. If you do both at the same time, raise the jets by about 5 and see how it runs. With jetting it takes trial and error unless you have a professional do it.
I was able to remove the right side pod and installed a filter looks better without the pod but when I went to the right side it was a totally different thing there’s a charcoal canister and other hoses connected so I’m stuck on what to do can you advise me it’s a 2017 California model with all kinds of emission control crap.
I removed it all. Excpet the carb heater ( black square with electrical connections) and the small vacuum hose which i plugged up and tucked away. All the other stuff just gets discarded.the two meatl lines coming off the cylinder just get plugged . I took the lines off and plugged with two 5/16 -18 ×3/4 self tapping screws. Really cleans out engine clutter
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 Actually I realized there was a hex screw and a end cap on there. Figures once I took it off all that was in there was a hole the size of the hex screw... Mirrors haven't came yet but I think If I ditch the adapter it'll screw right in?
Hey mate where did you get the air cleaner from ?
Amazon, just search for VW air filters. :-)

Got my VW filter yesterday. Can't wait to install it.
That air filter is a big improvement from the pods. I did that on my bike to.
Yea, looks good and adds a bit of power.
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 Instead of installing the hose to the air filter I purchased a 3/8 harley crankcase filter for that line.
Looks a lot better. How does it add power?@@rabidsquirrelgarage745
Tip for putting stuff in rubber grommets use a bit of dish soap on the seal it will slide right in.and the soap will wash away.
Great tip!
Nice bike i got ideas from you ,mostly those bars man..
Glad to hear it!

Great video thanks for sharing!
looking good
Where did you find that seat? Great info BTW
Where you get that air box replacement I can't find one
Hay mate the rubber hose you fitted into the air filter where dose that go to 🤔 I’m in abit of a pickle
It's one of the hoses connected to the petcock.
Did you need to mess with the cables for the bars or were they long enough. I feel like I have a decent amount of cable haha
I want that air filter pleaseeee❤
vast improvent,
Digging the look of the air filter. Does that hose that connects play a major role of the bike?
It's a breather hoes for the crank case. Yea, kinda important.

Where did you get the finder plugs for the holes... When I get ready to move the lights.
They came with the mirrors.
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 ....Thank you sir....stay safe.
What was the pod on other side of air cleaner? Seen it's gone to. Easy to remove? Thanks
It held the temp sensor for the carb and it is very small. I just relocated it to the frame and removed the pod.
@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 Hi. But can it get wet? I am also a total rookie:-)
@@vavavoom45ify Yes, it can get wet. it's not affected by a bit of rain.
Hello, which handlebar is this?
I have a video in the playlist for this bike showing all the info for it.
Hey DJ
Nice mods👍 Can you run the stock jetting with that air filter? Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Drew

Thanks for the very thorough answer👍 That makes sense. Hope you’re enjoying that virago 250. I love mine!

Rabid Squirrel Garage for some reason I cannot see the entire comment. Hopefully replying to it will help lol
Can you tell me the diameter of that rubber grommet from the factory
Sorry, no idea.

My clutch side bar isnt fully hollow. 88 xv250 you didn't have this problem?
No, mine were fine. You could drill them out some if you wanted.

@@strato5135 Yea, the mirrors are made two fit two different size bars.
Where did U get that air filter & how much was it $$$ ?
