Budget Bobber Build #4 | How to Remove Left & Right Pods on Virago XV250 | Install Ebay Pod Filters
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- In this episode we slim down the bike by removing the left and right Pods and install a pod filter on the right hand side. We also install a crank case breather helping give that bobber look to Gilby the Yamaha XV250 Virago V-star or Route 66
You will need to adjust the air fuel to your bike mine required 1 and a half turns extra out to compensate for the pod filter and drilled exhaust.
Large pod is found on ebay and is 48mm
Small Pod is a crank case breather search ebay for 3/8ths Harley Crank Case Breather or engine crank case breather. Before you ask...No I cant give you the link, look it up for yourself! Im in Australia your probably not, please do some research for yourself and type it into ebay or google! Remember this video is several years old!
Nice job. Amazing how such a small change can make such a big difference.
Volgnit Thanks mate! Tuning was a pain in the end but looks great!
This is a fabulous change. Increases the esthetics of the bike a lot.
I like.
+MOTO PT2 thanks yeah I think it looks great too!
In the new year, I am going to get the local dealer to wholesale me a bike like that so I can work on it and turn it into a bobber with apes and loud exhaust. Something I can work on like you are doing. Great video my friend!
faith biker cant wait to see that bike my friend. Keep us updated with videos man! And thank you! 😁
faith biker that will be awesome!! Cant wait for that one! ✌️
I have a 2001 Yamaha Virago xv250 all stock your video is by far the first budget custom build that I've seen online simple easy and just by watching your video fill a lot comfortable working on my bike I'm no mechanic so I really appreciate this video and big things to you so right now I'm taking a step by step actually want to order that that aftermarket air filter that you're putting on the bike I looked around online and couldn't find anything that comes in a bundle they're just selling it separate piece by piece I got the 44mm filter figure out but couldn't find that other part to put on the hose
Thanks mate glad you enjoy. I wanted to make modding this bike accessable to all so hopefully youve got something out of them. Try for a full kit

For just the breather!
@@iRidetas @solomo did you ever find up finding the kit
Anyone got links to find one of these full kits… can’t find it anywhere. Love this series mate so glad found it
Not sure anyone does a full kit now for them but check webike.jp mate they may
Thanks heaps for taking the time to reply mate cheers will have a look
Great Vid! I needed to see where to put the air temp sensor
Cheers
Great job mate and I learned a few things! :-)
Biker Bits no worries glad you enjoyed and got something out of it mate. They look so much better without the pods. Can reccomend that mod for yours no worries!
Always good to see how the sausage is made!! Man you know your sheet mate 👍👍
+Ridin' Country lol behind the curtain isnt akways good!! Thanks its all basic self taught stuff but it keeps me off the streets! 😁
Ridin' Country hopefully my how to videos arent sucking too badly!
iRidetas hell no!! But again I’m a super fan so maybe a little bias?? 😉
Funny, the thing that keeps you off the streets, allows you to spend more time on the street! Lol... sheet, there’s a vlog for ya!! 👍😉
Ridin' Country sounds a little philosophical that one 😉
Think I'll be taking mine off after watching this as well. Thanks for sharing dude 👍
I think it personally looks heap narrower and better without them!
Thanks for the reply man! I've just looked into it and on my 1100 1988 Virago, under the left pod is the air cut valve (part nr. 1ta-14840-00). Looks like it's too big to tuck away. Any idea what to do? Could I just remove the whole thing..? I've seen other 1100 Viragos without this pod but don't know what they've done with the valve... Thanks for any help dude 🙏
Im not sure mate sorry. Ive got an xv250 and an xvs1100 so im not particularly up with the xv1100 sorry. But good luck!
Gday, Where did you get the pod replacements?
Cheers
Agree on how much cleaner it looks. Nice change.
Broncoride thanks. Im stoked with how it looks!
Mate that looks well nice! Hoping to buy a XV 535, there’s a shit ton of them here in Sweden for a cheap price! Hoping to turn mine into a bobber, just trying to gather as much knowledge as I can. Good job on the bike take care man!
Thanks. They are pretty rare here! I would like one myself but hard to find for reasonable money or reasonable kilometeres
Mate she looks good, great job.
02bigkev Thanks mate appreciate the kind words!
I’ve been trying to find a video on fuel filter change out for a 250 can’t find one and haven’t been able to locate it on my bike looks like it might have been taken out where should I install the new one I bought
Its been a while since ive had this bike but it doesnt from memory have a fuel filter it has a petcock screen. Simple case to put a fuel filter in the fuel line if you want to.
Bloody Good Job im going to do this to my Wifes 250 as it seems to struggle breathing
Yup it works well mate!
Hey Chris, did you need to make any changes to thr jets in the carb?
At this point no!
@@iRidetas great to know! Thank you! I bumped up my jets and I think it's ruined my upgrade haha time to undo my mistake
With just the intake mods it was pilot screw adjustment only
looks good i will be doing that to my 2017 v star 250
Cheers
with the 2 filters whats the little one connected to the hose
Crank case breather
@@iRidetas thanks bro. im up to 18 on bobber build. its got me amping to do one. thank you
I like the stock look.
Go for the stock look then mate!
I know it's an old video, but where did you get the air breather from that you bolted under the tank.
Info is in the video description
where do you get that bracket that the small oil breather hangs off ?
Info in description
It already looks better being cleaned up and the air boxes removed.
Yeah made a big difference
I bought a pod filter with a 90 degree elbow I plan to drill a hole in the side of the elbow and thread a hose barb to plug the vent line into instead of a separate filter. Do you see any problems with that setup? A crank case vent will make vapors so having that burned instead of vented near my leg sounds better and is closer to stock operation
Common setup, has no problems, i wanted the seperate breather on mine for the look!
@@iRidetas wow you still reply awesome man I appreciate you replying to me. My bike is an 09 v star been sitting for three years still cranks healthy but the carb is gummed up California gas has alot of ethanol. Decided to mod the ass out of it before I have ridden it lol over 20 packages this week of odds and ends it will be a fun weekend for sure your videos are holding my hand through the process seriously thank you mate for the videos much love from stateside.
Good luck with your project mate! If you do any mod do 17t front sprocket first then maybe 42t back, best bang for buck!! Cheers
Yours sounded a serious question so i wanted to answer you mate! 👍
I did the change to the air filter but unfortunately the other side could not be changed there were to many parts involved.
Each market has different things under the left side
I know this is an older video. But I love your bike shez gorgeous. I recently bought an 85 xv700 virago. But I love the look of your tank and the carb and engine are those modded? Lol I'm new to street bikes 700 is my 1st and I'm getting to know her. We road around for a week while she spit an spattered. So atm I have it tore down giving the good old clean out of everything tank had a rust issue killing everything. But I seen that was curious if it's mods do you have a list. Maybe I can make some additions while I'm at tbis

hey brother, another great video!
quick question, (and i looked through all the comments to avoid asking a question that 20 people may have already asked you to save you some headache, lol)
but i noticed you have an in line fuel filter right there next to the fuel pump, i also grabbed one of these but i can't figure out which line/hose to connect it too. Could you possibly let me know where i should install mine, please? We have the same bike, but mine is a 2005 (CA model-_-) oh yeah, also when i take the left pod/bug eye off, there's this big black air-box(?) Under the pod with 2 big vacuum(?) hoses that run towards/in the bugeye/pod, so I'm a little unsure how i would take the pod off and keep it looking clean like yours does, are these 2 bigger size lines and black air-box thing necessary or can i delete them or if need be just re-route them somewhere? i know i read in a comment on here somewhere that you said that for the CA model like mine that its extra emissions stuff but is it necessary for the bike to run or can i just ditch is per say haha.
thanks for your help, good sir!!
wait on second look, did you get rid of the fuel pump?! i dont even see it ??
Hi mate. Awesome video. And work. I have watched the video a lot by now, (and read the description) but I can’t seem to find where you got the part for the second filters mount.
Maybe it’s a language thing🇩🇰
Can you provide a noob with that info.
Cheers
mate! it says in the description
Large pod is found on ebay and is 48mm
Small Pod search ebay 3/8ths Harley Crank Case Breather or engine crank case breather
just type it in to ebay or google! 👍
I noticed after you took the air filter off what are the two parts you put back on the right side? I just bought a Virago and am missing both of those pod looking things.
@@itsmitz4367 I was wondering the same thing. Where did you get the bracket and other filter?
Ebay!
Hey love your videos. Doing a similar project but I got the California model and don’t know what to do with the emissions system . Can I remove it I can’t find anything online . Can you point me in the right direction?
I have no experience with it but if its added it can be removed!
Hi man. Amazing and very inspiring series of video here! I didn't quite get it, however: why did you have to replace one air filter with two more? where did you order the replacement? and most importantly: did you do anything else to protect/cover the air filter for riding under the rain? Cheers from Vietnam!
Thanks mate! One is the crank case filter second is air filter, its all in the video and links in description! Bike is fine in the rain never had an issue myself! 👍👍
Great videos a mate, what issues if any did you have tuning the bike afterwards?
None! there are several tuning videos in the series see below!
Budget Bobber Build Season 1 XV250 or Virago 250: ruclips.net/p/PLmVgB9c9_om0nwaTBngXW4UUOfMjvfSrn
hey man this series has been a big help for my build but how do you know what air filter to get is it a one size fits all sort of thing or do you look for a certain size thanks im pretty new to this
Easy! just measure the outside diameter of the neck you are putting it on. There are many sizes def not one size fits all.
@@iRidetas sweet cheers
Its been a while but im pretty sure its 48mm but pay to measure
Unfortunately the filter isn't shipped to Mexico. What other options do you recommend since I want to remove the stocked ones on my motorcycle?
Antonio Rios 48mm pod filter from ebay in your country!
+iRidetas thanks!
I used the same filters and I realized the throttle won’t work as well with the filter I believe the bigger filter is not working as good, seems like not enough air getting in, any suggestions? “I bought the filter brand new”
You can't just bang a pod filter on mate you will generally have to at least adjust the air fuel screws in some situations rejet. It the opposite problem of too much air getting through!!
What is the second smaller filter for - is it the crankcase breather?
Its all in the video and description mate!...but yes crank case breather.
@@iRidetas I wasn't sue about it - my crankcase breather hose was trapped against the rear cylinder and split. I'm going to install the same pipes as you and I wanted the breather out of the way ie get rid of the breather hose.
I wouldnt get rid of it, you still want it it to vent the crankcase, just best that it does vent through the air filter and back into the engine.
@@iRidetas OK. I was going to put a separate filter on it at the crankcase where it comes out, but I'll take your advice.
That works, doesnt have to be any where particular, most of my bikes I have done that. The xv250 thought i would keep it simple for people to out it next to the pod filter cause it was plumbed to the pod holding the stock filter. Most of my bikes I do exactly what you said and just vent it at the crank case by putting a crank case filter directly on the vent
that solenoid thingy on the left side that you tucked away, what is that actually for? did this mod to my bike a while back, but that solenoid was completely missing?? any idea if it effects in negative way, if it is gone?
Marc SoundTech in ausstralia its parr of the carb heater and i believe in us particularly cali its got extra emmisions gear. If its not in there i imagine it would be a bit more cold blooded 1st thing in the morning!
good to know, thanks brother!
Hey mate , what was oil start dripping when you detached left side pod . i had same thing while doind it . what that oil is for there and it has veen sucked by air filter on right side . what should i do to avoid this problem . Thanks in advance
From my experience its the crakcase breather exiting into the airbox (the frame) to be recirculated back through the engine to meet emmissions but it builds up in the frame and can drain out if you remove certain bolts. It also can build up if you use ether starting fluid etc. To prevent maybe not over fill the oil filler i suppose
The line that goes from the stock air pod that goes to the carburetor what did you do with it.?
I didnt remove any lines mate, sorry! The vent line that goes to the stanard pod now vents through the second filter there!
It's weird. I removed the right pod with no problem but there's no crankcase hose to be found. When I tracked the venting line that goes from the crankcase, it's connected to a hole in the frame. Could you help by explain that?
The frame on the virago is the airbox! 👍 makes sense
@@iRidetas so it essentially means I don't need a crankcase vent filter?
they vent it through the intake or airbox to reticulate the oily air and burn off some of it to meet emmisions. I wouldnt run it with no filter as all sorts of crap could go into your engine via that route
@@iRidetas Shall I just disconnect it from the frame and vent it through an extension tube through a filter out to the atmosphere?
(Again, mine didn't have a tube that vents the crankcase into the pod like yours. It might be removed somehow by the previous owners, or just didn't have one for mine is originally a 125 modded to 250, or the 90-91' lines didn't have one)
What you do mate is up to you! 👍 but that is what i would do yes!
hi great job man. from were can i buy that 2 nd small air filer ? it looks great!!!
Try this mate! rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F282139299903
What was the smaller filter got the lumps off and 48mm pod on ..No i got a lonely hose with no filter
+Joshua Adrian To my knowledge its part of emmisions and vents back into the pod air cleaner to go back into the airbox and engine. With a fiter on it it would just vent straight to the atmosphere!
+iRidetas your a champion.. thanks for the response ...good work on the virago
hi where di you get the adaptor? for the small one
Info in video description
Where did you buy the second airfilter that connects to the vacuumhose? I only seem to find the large, main filter on Ebay and such!
Link is in the description!
i want to remove the filter but i ride alot in the rain so a pod filter wont do got any tips?
Pod filter with a top cover
Where did you get the pod for the hose that came off the stock pod?
Its in the video and description
For the small pod can I use a car one? If it’s the same size? (3/8)
Yeah mate any pod that fits on the breather hose
@@iRidetas awesome, just you replying shows your a real one! That deserves a sub!
Cheers
hii, I liked the series of videos about your virago, I've got a 125 virago and would like to do this air filter swap, but I have 2 questions: 1st the filter is 44mm or 48mm, and 2nd, is it safe for this filter when riding on rain??
Xv250 48mm yes be careful in the rain mate! Pays to spray them etc.
Hey dude. Where did ypu buy the filters?
Info In video and the video description
So I need to buy 2 different aftermarket air filters?
For this setup yes!
@@iRidetas can I just use 1 k&n filter?
@@iRidetas are both of your filters the same size?
I’m so confused I have a 2022 vstar 250 and just ordered the k&n will that be ok?
Can I just throw that other hose away? Thanks for your videos and sorry for so many replies.
What is the thing on the left under the fake air box pod
?
@@iRidetas there is a sensor or something electrical under the left air pod
Different for each market, mine is solenoid for carb heater
hey man nice job, I have a 2007 xv 250 virago and its been riding but it died on me last week, I didnt mess with it for a few days and it started up great and rode around for about 5 minutes just fine, after I put it in neutral from 1st it starts bogging, especially when I give it gas, it almost kills the engine with acceleration. I left it running like that and it died itself, is that a bad air filter that I need to replace, i looked it up and those seemed like the symptoms what do you think?
every time i punch into neutral it wants to bog and die
maybe it's the fuses... same happened to me. I've changed the fuses and i never had that problem again
Hi BBB,... thanks for the vid. ..... I have a 2000 yamaha 250 virago and was smelling a very rich mixture. I started to lean out the mix screw 1/8 of a turn at a time and took ride. Kept doing this until screw bottomed out and no change in rich smell or performance of the byke. How is this possible? (starting point was about 1 and 1/2 turns out)
Makes me wonder if the choke plunger not stuck or something like that mate!
May be over jetted or the needle has been dropped a level too much!
interesting,... the needle could be it, thanks!... gotta be getting fuel from somewhere...
Goodluck
Hey mate
Just got a set of these pod filters from Bad Boy Bobbers for my XV250. What would you recommend in terms of waterproofing them? As I may ride in the rain sometime.
Cheers
Use air filter oil. That's what I used
@@iRidetas Cheers mate!
No worries
Where did u get the mini filter and bracket
How bout you read the descriprion old mate! Or watch the video its all in there!
Hi mate, do you need to be careful when washing the bike? Should water around the pod be avoided?
I would mate, dont want water getting into that airbox!
Did you have any bogging issues when riding and acceleration?
Nope!
I’m doing this right now:)
My 1984 virago has two hoses that were directed to air box why do I have two?
They have two so the crank case etc. Doesnt vent to atmosphere it vents into the airbox and gets burnt off. Its emmissions
They were both leading into air box? How can I tel Which one gets the filter?
Ummm dont have any experience with an 84. One will go through the airbox to the carb the other will be a vacum hose or the like coming up off the engine. You may need to google that for yourself mate!
What is the size of the breather case? Thanks for the videos they are very helpful for my 96 build.
In the description
I see the large pod is 48mm but that’s it
Hmm strange oh well it was 3/8ths
hay man can I have links i also live in Australia and would like to do this
Info in the description
Why there is two filters. What the smaller filter do?
Left pod has carb heater in it!
Did the crankcase filter stay on okay? I have an 88 an I can't find the damn fuel screw!
No worries
@@iRidetas Any idea where to look? I found a brass screw on the air box side. Found the idle speed screw, don't see another brass screw engine side
Calm down mate!
Its imediately behind the fuel pump. You just have to take it off. It also may have a brass plug if its never been adjusted before
@@iRidetas How can I know if there's a brass plug?
Cause you see a plug, not the brass screw!!!!
Coolio mate. Quite surprising how it didn't need much retuning, did ya fettle it much in the end?
Tcrs fella ✊
Doticaster yeah unfortunately was a complete pain in the ass in the end! 😕 looks cool though! 😁
Can you tell me the parts numbers or give me a link to what to order so I can do the same to my bike.
Altin Wood just search ebay for 44mm pod filter and crank case filter mate! Or bad boy bobbers make a kit with both!
iRidetas awesome mate. If I could post pics of my little bike I would but your posts have been the best how to on here. How much did you have to adjust the carbs.
Altin Wood thanks for the kind words. How much to adjust carbs will be individual to your bike and year and how much its been played with before you bought it. Mine had to be wound out to 3 1/2 turns but im not fully happy with it. Needs another ride and tune!
What size is that Little pod and where can I find it
Its all in the description mate!
@@iRidetas I read the large pod is 48 mm and you have a link that doesn't work for the small one
@@iRidetas I'm just having problems finding the small one

Try harley or engine crank case breather filter 5/16th inlet or the likes
I would really be interested in the air filter that you're putting in there and where I can purchase it at
You can find them on eBay mate!
eyo, great vid.
would love to do the same but germany and its fckn laws about modifying your bike.
removing the pods, open airfilter and drilling holes would be soo good because im only 17 (student, not much money :P) and have my old 99 virago but cant really afford the parts that are allowed on your bike because they are like around 150 bucks more than normal parts (in germany the parts have to be approved by the state as okay to safely put on your bike)
and drilling holes in something is certainly not approved lol
but anyway like to see you progressing, cheers
BrainMizzing that sucks mate the laws here are strict but certain things you seem to get away with! Cheers!
Hi Iridetas,
I really liked the mod so I just did the same thing on my xv250. It looks good on the bike, however, I also feel a lot of power loss after 70kph and it's backfiring. Did you experience the same problem or is it just mine?
I experience no power loss. Sounds like you could be to lean. Adjust the air fuel screw.
@@iRidetasyea, mine needed a rejett after all. I watched your rejetting video and it solved my problem! Cheers mate :)
No worries glad it helped
Gday, Where did you get the pod replacements?
Cheers
Its in the video and description mate!
iRidetas yeah just saw that..Cheers mate !
No worries
iRidetas just ordered it Lol
I'm probably gonna do this since I need to replace my air filter anyways... However, what's that other filter thing I saw you install?
Mate! All the info is in the video and description Its a crank case breather!
@@iRidetas I'll be honest, I should have looked at that first... Ran into another problem, the 2024 V-Star 250 California model has extra trinkets inside of the left pod, including a charcoal air filter for the exhaust system... As well as components for the fuel pump apparently
@@iRidetasI think I'm just going to take it to a shop and have them. Will do all the wrench throwing and cursing
That is also mentioned in the video mate! Each market has different things under thd left pod!!!
super
Hi,... Thanks for the video. Would you know the screw size that bolts on the carb float bowl cover?.... Thanks
