The sticky gunk was supposed to give it a sort of soft-grip, almost velvety sort of feel. These things feel nice new, but inevitably degrade into sticky goo over time, inside the package or not. You can either combat the goo by rubbing talcum powder into it, or take it off by taking it apart and using a strong solvent like turpentine on the pieces covered in goo. Similar goo is also found on some early Thinkpad laptops, Apple Newtons, and some mice.
Actually, in France, the manufacturer Videojet sold a LOT of Conny's Pocket Dream Console (Even a Ninja Turtles console...). But their design was a little bit different, and some of them even got 200 games built into them. Conny even made, in 2009, a console with a touchscreen, called the MI2, known in Europe by the name "PDC Touch", and sold once again by Videojet.
I believe the "sticky" problem is due to the age of the rubbery grip/shock absorbing substance. As a cinema (not game) collector I can speak for the "Juice Box Personal Media Player" that was made between 2004-2005 and unfortunately used a rubbery substance to encase the system. The first one I bought secondhand and I assumed the stickiness was due to dirty kid hands constantly playing with it, but it wasn't until I bought one still in its package that I realized it was getting sticky simply due to the age of the rubber. So chances are The Pocket Dream Console was not sticky to begin with, but over the years became that way.
Me and my brother are uploading old ads and stuff we recorded on VHS back in the day, and we actually found the old Juice Box ad! I remember seeing it and thinking it looked cool, but i guess i never had the courage to ask for one! There's a bunch of 2000s ads here but the juicebox one is at the 5:00 mark: ruclips.net/video/lQqIA_Cskfs/видео.html
raafmaat i was born in 2000, i came to a friend house to play Mario Kart double dash in 2006 , since then i wanted a gamecube for my 6th birthday , but i got this :(
Wing GT ohhh haha, thats tough! so... your 16 now right? did you ever get a gamecube yourself afterwards? I would actually recommend a super nintendo though, best system ;)
The pinball game is a crappy version of Mario Pinball Land; I was recently playing that game so I recognize the font, the coin design and the font (which Mario Pinball Land got from Mario 64 itself). The Flippers look like they could be direct ripoffs too, but theres not a lot of detail to those to steal haha.
This is really one of the best video game youtuber voices I've ever heard. Unlike so many of the other ones, it's not squeaky, or nasally, or grating; it's just right, and very listenable. I'm gonna subscribe just for that.
There is a pretty good reason why Nintendo doesn't ever put any kind of video outputs on their handhelds. Obviously their first portable was the GameBoy. At the time the GameBoy was created it would have been prohibitive to add video out on the GB since it would have taken some special hardware and software to convert the GB's low resolution, dot matrix output to a TV and Nintendo wanted to develop it as cheaply as possible. Then the Super GameBoy came out a few years later and Nintendo realized that instead of adding this feature into their portables for probably no extra money, they could keep the feature absent and then put out a device to play them on a TV through a home console that the user would also need to buy. They did this same thing with the GBA on the GameCube. The dual screens of the DS and 3DS have complicated this, but I assume they would have done it again if it was possible. So basically, they can add video output to the portable for probably no extra money, or they can sell peripherals that also push their home consoles to play portables on TV. Its pretty much a no-brainer.
Nah, I am just a dangerous combination of fast typer and long-winded. And actually my long comments rarely get liked probably because few people commit to reading them.
I do like all the options the DS games on the Wii U VC gives you for the screen placement. There's already a small gap in between the screens on the DS systems so I've got no problem using my Wii U gamepad for the touchscreen & my TV for the top screen since I can use the speakers on the screen where the action is going on & mute the speakers for the screen where nothing is going on.
To get rid of that sticky residue, use 99% isopropyl alcohol. Put some on a cloth and rub it against the sticky surface. I had the same issue with a few old controllers. Removes the sticky film.
I've bought this console back in the day, it's not so bad. Nothing like pop station anyway. The best use of this is to plug in the tv and let the roulette roll in the background
in the early 2000's a lot of electronics equipment had a certain kind of rubberized coating that didn't age well, I have a set of speakers that had the same coating, and after a number of years the coating basically mixes so that rather than the inside sticking to the product surface and the outside being sealed, it's all sticky. I found that if careful and with a damp cloth, you can actually wash/scrub away the coating, which sucks since it ends up just being plain plastic underneath, but less sketchy than the grossness of the rubber coating.
+Han Daimond It's always fun to spot the stolen sprites on things like this :) 3:32 "Robotic horse game" has enemies ripped off from Goof Troop on SNES. The pirates have a beak and tail drawn over them, the bees have wings and a tail attached, and the snakes have weird alien antennae lol.

Here in Brazil it was called Game Conny PDC, and i remember it had a somewhat big advertise for these kind of device. It had ads on paper and on TV.
In my opinion, getting a handheld game system without a cartridge slot or a download function is pointless... Why would I want to get this thing in 2006 when the Game Boy Advance was already out for 5 years and still getting great games? If I wanted more games for this I'd be screwed, if I wanted more games for the GBA I'd just go out and buy them... (There's also the flash cart option btw)

The US version is a bit different. The games are mostly the same but the categories are arranged slightly differently. It is nice knowing that other people acknowledge its existence though.
4:40 Ignoring the assault on my ears, my question is why the death animation depicts the girl getting electrocuted. That enemy doesn’t really look like something that is electrical.
3:44 The bird-pirates from the robot horse-game are ripped straight off of SNES game Goof Troop with beaks and feathers added. I have also seen the same sprite used somewhere else, but can't exactly remember where.

“Little strange falic looking green...um...things”
Now i realised that this third game "Gnome" has the HUD from the first Rayman game.
The US version is a bit different. The games are mostly the same but the categories are arranged slightly differently. It is nice knowing that other people acknowledge its existence though.
7:04 - 7:15 , where do they rip that game from. I have played the original game back when I was a kid on a PC, but I forgot the name. Please answer.
4:40 Ignoring the assault on my ears, my question is why the death animation depicts the girl getting electrocuted. That enemy doesn’t really look like something that is electrical.
8:14 The Pinball game uses the Super Mario 64 font as well as similar graphics for the coins.
The game is actually a clone of Mario Pinball Land for the GBA
That one side scroller shooter seemingly asset flipped an enemy from Twinbee SNES
3:44 The bird-pirates from the robot horse-game are ripped straight off of SNES game Goof Troop with beaks and feathers added. I have also seen the same sprite used somewhere else, but can't exactly remember where.
Here in 2017, we have the Switch. Its likw the A/I, but with a HDMI
sounds like it is sticky because it was probably a soft-touch plastic that degraded. I see this a lot on older cell phones and even some thinkpads
Watching this in 2017. The switch came out. Rerez Called it before it happened o_O
