the score requires "in the distance" in her solo a few bars later, so she's back there for the entire opening. Interestingly, the score states the same requirement for the Eb clarinet too ("across the stage"), but he stays seated with the clarinets. Odd.
Zander's head is so buried in the score it's like he's seeing it for the first time, just trying to beat time. I think the orchestra could have played it just fine without him up there.
Beautiful!
Stunning. There was so much drama in the finale I'm literally out of breath.
7:00 if you are looking for the famous flute solo
Thanks 😀
Thank you!
Fantastic!
1:46 piccolo could barely be heard. It barely projected
Where did piccolo lady run off to?

Wow
Maestro Zander, Ben. You turn out these performances now in your 80's what were you doing decades ago... Where were the Big Orchestral Jobs then?
He's sort of a one-man show.
He was teaching at the New England Conservatory of Music for 45 years!

Beautifully played, but the last movement is WAY too slow.... 😬😬😬
No, he’s playing it according to Ravel’s tempo. You’re just used to people playing it too fast!
