My only issue with it is the main cannons are too far apart to be much use outside of strafing runs on large targets. 12.5 meters long, the wing span is as long as if not longer than the length of the ACR-170. So at best a 12.2 meter gap between their mounts.
+ Mit Whit Gaming, Angel Marin, Seth90TOF: Okay, I can see that. Not sure the gimbaling is worth the added mass of the mechanisms and control systems for it. Still, it is a good heavy fighter despite that one issue.
V-Wing: described as a fast and nimble dogfighter My memories from Battlefront II (the original better one): Slow bomber with essentially a shotgun, next to useless against fighters.
I think the Z95 Headhunter was probably the best balanced fighter of the war. Considering it was still in use after the fall of the Empire in some militias (even up to the Vong crisis in Legends).
The protagonist of Jedi Academy uses a Hyperdrive modified Z-95, it may be dated but it’s still very reliable not to mention easily modified (I remember seeing a Z-95 that was modified with X-Wing style S-Foils!).
Ironically the V-Wing is shown making a hyperspace jump without a ring in Revenge of the Sith, while escorting Palpatine's shuttle. Presumably these were a slightly altered variant for exclusive use by the Emperor's escorts, but no statement on them has ever been made.
I had Lego sets of almost all of this. I had the original ARC-170 set which came with the Droid Tri-fighter, and later got the V-Wing, and the Delta-7B _Aethersprite_ - class starfighter. Both my ground and space battles were very one-sided lol.
Were the Z-95 and ARC-170 used at around the same time? Watching the Clone Wars, it seems like we only ever see one or the other, never both being used at once. The Z-95 is more of a dedicated fighter, as opposed to the ARC-170's heavier ordnance and bombing capabilities, so they definitely wouldn't be used exclusively apart from each other. Personally, I prefer the ARC-170. Looks way better, bigger guns.
Z-95 should be a pre-clone wars non-hyper drive light fighter used in planetary defense. the ARC-170 was developed based on the Z-95 and incorporated more powerful shields and weapons and built as an assault bomber/fighter with a hyperdrive leaving the T-65 X-Wing to be a refinement of the two designs to create a more balanced all-round fighter/bomber All three designs are built by Incom
Oooh! Do Bomber comparisons! Listening to your description of the Y-Wings Twin Linked Dorsal Gun Turret reminded me of the many guns on the Marauder Bombers (Warhammer 40K.) I'd love to see different bomber comparisons across multiple universes!

The BTL-B Y-Wing is a classic and looks better then the Y-Wings in the Rebel Alliance and the Actis is my personal favorite among the starfighters of the Old Republic.

I’ve always been of the opinion that the Z-95 was an early war ship, contemporary with the V-19, since it would seem to me that the Republic underestimated early on the importance of fleet battles (seeing the war as largely a matter of putting down Rebellions on planets they already dejure held, like geonosis) hence the V-19 was more an dual atmosphere (space+air) craft with Shuttle design influences than a out and out star fighter. In my view it’s job was to cut through a planets defense screen of star fighters once an Acclamator came out of hyperspace over an LZ, and then escort LAATs down to the surface. That requires the shuttle type design of the ship, and explains the lack of astromech & hyper drive. Then the Republic got into larger fleet battles, and its only options were to continue V-19 production, rush the Y Wing bomber into service, and buy up the already in production, commercially produced, Z-95s to fill the gap of fleet fighters. But then I never watched all of the Clone Wars series so they might contradict me, and I still think 3 years is too short a timeline for the war (its WW2 in space, and that irl lasted at least 4-5 years or more depending on who you ask).

And since the venator is more of a carrier than a Frontline capital ship it makes sense for them to have it good Frontline Fighters with powerful weapon and shielding then hyperdrives
In the case for the ARC-170, having the hyperdrive is mainly due to the fact that it also performs reconnaissance mission. It would operate well ahead of any republic fleet with little to no support.
With the hyperdrive ships, make non hyperdrive variants used for close support with a fleet that have the space for the hyperdrive taken up with extra shielding. Wouldn't need much reengineering (may even be capable of being an aftermarket modification or even swappable by ground crew/maintenance to vary the inventory and mission profile) and could confuse enemy fighters who wouldn't expect it to survive so many extra hits. Okay, I don't care how good Jedi reflexes and senses are; no shields on their fighters was really dumb, especially with how much the Jedi went on about how "the war is stretching us thin and we're losing members at unsustainable rates". I'm actually reminded of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which focused on building a small, elite cadre of pilots but used lightly built planes that did little to protect those pilots.
most likely. remember the Starfortresses in TLJ. Might hate the movie, but think on this: your ship would be slow too if you're carrying over a thousand proton bombs. Granted the Y-wing doesn't carry anywhere close to that many, but it also didn't handle like a drunk rancor.
ETA-2 needs a massive retrofit....I never noticed it myself until I saw it on a "Making off Video"...I think, but the Astromech Units are to big for the Wings. They would basically...well...their Lower part would be visible. Hmm...it looks like they fixed it already.

I've heard the 170 was late in the war. Though it's seen early in the war. At the battle of Kamino and Malastare..
The latest Republic ship is the Y-Wing.
Daniel: the Delta 7 did have shielding. This is apparent in AotC when Jango is shooting at Obi-Wan.
He the delta 7b the delta 7b had no shield and the astromech was in front rather than the side.
To be honest, the only ones I really like are the later Jedi interceptors.
All the animated clips are from the clone war animation tv show?
Okay, I don't care how good Jedi reflexes and senses are; no shields on their fighters was really dumb, especially with how much the Jedi went on about how "the war is stretching us thin and we're losing members at unsustainable rates". I'm actually reminded of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which focused on building a small, elite cadre of pilots but used lightly built planes that did little to protect those pilots.
Do thrust to weight ratios even matter in space. Isn’t everything weightless up there?
why are the y-wings so slow when they have the biggest engines of small strike craft? just the extra bomb/torpedo weight?
most likely. remember the Starfortresses in TLJ. Might hate the movie, but think on this: your ship would be slow too if you're carrying over a thousand proton bombs. Granted the Y-wing doesn't carry anywhere close to that many, but it also didn't handle like a drunk rancor.
Well the rebels did get some more kick out of them when they removed the armor.
What makes you think they are slow? They are as fast as X Wings just less maneuverable.
The Delta-7B; the A6M of the Star Wars universe.
Would you be willing to look at the ships in ender's game? They're really cool and have never been shown much love
P-61 Black Widow influence is strong with the ARC-170
Nice to hear some real Star Wars for once.
The V-19 looks like Terran Wraiths.
ETA-2 needs a massive retrofit....I never noticed it myself until I saw it on a "Making off Video"...I think, but the Astromech Units are to big for the Wings. They would basically...well...their Lower part would be visible.
Hmm...it looks like they fixed it already.
How does a actis have space for a full astromech?
The last ship does have shields if I remember episode 3 correctly
Pls do a marathon cruiser and Stalwart frigate
1 video about the ring from the expanse please 2 early yeah 3 video about the dreadnought the systems alliance from mass effect uses or any other ship of the systems alliance please
Honestly, the V-19 is pretty ugly. The V-Wing is a good upgrade
Funny, The V-19 and the Alpha-3 both had the moniker "V-Wing)...
The Clone War era Republic/Empire's ship and clone armor designs were my favorite of all the Star Wars eras.
With the exception of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer, everything else about the First Order was just lazily done.
