- During a recent interview with Jermaine Dupri, the rapper/producer shared his thoughts on the recent Mariah Carey criticism. To that, the rapper says the media gives the singer a hard time, however, Carey sometimes doesn't take things as "seriously as she should."

That's not what he said - he said she doesn't take it serious enough sometimes... which is the truth. That's what happens when 99% of the people in her life (especially my fellow Lambs) sre yes people that lie to her, cater to what they think she wants to hear & say all these nice things (like you did here) but don't tell her the truth &/or what she needs to hear. So no, she doesn't take it seriously enough - that's why the majority of her music hasn't been that great & why her voice deteriorated so drastically so quickly as it did. She can still sing but she doesn't put in the same effort (vocal rest, preparation, training etc) that's why her voice is unreliable, inconsistent & (many times) unpleasant... and that's why she lip-syncs to so many songs (either partially or fully). Even she has made comments that have somewhat admitted to this 'not taking things serious enough' thing in recent interviews.
Mariah has a right to be tired and jaded. Whitney had two tributes by the time she was out 15 years, meanwhile she was releasing Emancipation and everyone was forced to stop writing her off. It's like the world doesn't want to encourage her. I can understand her not wanting to do anything unless it's fun, festive, and fan based. And making music is part of that, lucky for us. She's not just a fame whore she's an artist

i believe that mariah doesn't care about getting back on top or getting another #1, she just puts out new material for the true fans and that's fine by me. when i hear her music, i want to know that it's truly coming for her heart & it's the music that SHE wants to release, not what everyone else wants her to put out.
priscilla darling I agree and I think we started to see that Mariah with the Emancipation album 10 years ago. The other albums have been just okay or below expectations. She has an impressive career nonetheless with enough hits to just tour and be done with it, but I'm sure she will continue to make some more music.

He told the truth. And I'm sure she fired him because he was NOT a yes man and told her this and tried to push her to do better and take it more seriously. I love love love MC. but she is a lazy artist and singer at times.
I am happy jd said this publicly being a mariah fan for years I get what he said, look at the vegas shows VS the bad ones she went and did her homework learned her new voice and realized the fact the world is always watching and is killing it every night I'm happy to see she has an HONEST person in her life to keep it real.

Although, Fans know that she is joking with the whole diva thing... It's getting very old with the public. She has a sense of humor that no one understands, and people who aren't "lambs" are never going to even try to understand.
I absolutely love her R&B. That's where i think her specialty lies, but what people want to hear from her is more watered down pop R&B or ballads like Debut, and Emotions. If she did that and toned down she'd be on top again. Unfortunately her later stuff is a reflection of her doing what she loves but in order to stay in the public eye, and keep/gain fans she's going to have to put that effort in and maybe do things she doesn't want to do anymore.
I understand she doesn't have ANYTHING to prove, and she can spend the rest of her life doing what she wants and not care about what anyone has to say about her, but in order save face with the public I think a new image is in order. And a few more back to basic ballads.

***** I don't disagree with you. What I meant by "back on top" is recapturing her early fans/ critics. I think L.A. Is right, of course she probably won't top the pop charts, but she could do well with an adult contemporary audience, or a soul or jazz album.
Sadly, people don't respect the veterans. New audiences are beyond disrespectful when it comes to past artists' legacies if its going to dampen the shine of their current favorite.
Unfortunately I've seen a lot of comments saying she needs to hang it up, or she can't do this anymore. In the publics eyes she is tarnishing her legacy (which should be impossible to do, but like I said this new audience is not easy on artists in general). It's all up to her, I'm sure she knows what she needs to do to be at top and maybe she just doesn't care, maybe she doesn't want another number 1. who knows?
I will be a fan no matter what, she could get on the stage and gargle and I'd be satisfied. lol

Mariah owns her career. But JD is 100% right. He tells it like it is. He play no games talking bullshit waiting hours for somebody to come over. Mariah deserved everything she have. All the accolades and hits. But the world is different now, you need to work and PLAY HARD.
I believe Mariah is one of the most hard working women in the industry actually. Especially in the 90's where she wrote and produced 13 #1 hits and went on tour where she sung all her performances live and sold millions of albums.
Then she had her breakdown in 2001 and then she took a break and clawed her way back up to #1 in 2005 with the Emancipation of Mimi and later on released E=MC2 which also did well.
Now Mariah is recovering from the Elusive Chanteuse which did not sell very well. Overall I think Mariah has worked really hard at where she is right now. I mean she is already a legend in the music industry. Anything more is just extra.
Now I don't know Mariah more than Jermaine because he's worked with her for 20 years, but that's my viewpoint on it.
She is very talented and creative but she does not work hard at all. She puts nothing into her live performances. She makes no effort to dance and even lip-synchs. Her music videos are very repetitive. It's always her standing in one spot with the wind blowing through her hair. She doesn't exercise and can't maintain her weight. Plus she drinks too much which affects her vocals. Mariah is very lazy. Beyonce works a thousand times harder than her.
@@johndoe4783 She already did her thing so i don't even care if she doesn't move much in her live performances anymore. If you actually see her old live performances, she actually moves a lot and doesn't/barely lipsyncs (most of her videos are dubbed tho)

About to finish my last pages of the MC memoir and it’s phenomenal. I’m really grateful that I decided to buy the book because I got to learn so much more about her. I always liked watching her videos growing up as a kid because they were different from everyone else’s MC is youthful and wants to enjoy her childhood again - the right way without chaos, dysfunction and turmoil.
MC doesn’t have to take anything seriously now because she’s put in her work. When people were ridiculing her for her features, her music, her movies, her guest appearances, wardrobe etc.
She really put in her work and she’s an old fashioned Diva who deserves to REST & DO WHATEVER! ❤️💜✨✨✨

Mariah is a fucking legend and has worked harder than any artist in the industry. At this point she is investing and securing her and her kids' future. She just announced a new movie, a children's book, a makeup line, and she's the new face of Game of War. She takes her career very seriously. I will admit that I wish she would take care of her voice more but I know it's tough with vocal nodules.
Regardless of what JD is saying he should've done this privately. It's a shame that he is supposed to be Mariahs friend and turns around and basically put her on blast. It's scary how people are nowadays

I partly do agree with his comments but isn't it everyone's goal in life to not have to work for a living. Mariah doesn't need to perform and promote or even release albums anymore, she's a mother now and although I'm sure she will never stop making music, she doesn't owe anyone anything. Just look at her schedule these past weeks, going from Vegas shows to Jimmy Kimmel, to tape Kelly & Michael the next day, to then fly back to Vegas, to then fly to New York for the World Trade Tower, to then go to Austria. All still spending time with her kids and doing interviews. Like... She REALLY is a working woman and with really no need to anymore, she has the money, she has all the awards, she could just retire like we would all like to. Kuddos to her for continuing to give us fans more music and performances.

In the last 10 years Mariah has had 2 number one albums on Billboard top 100 which both were executive produced by JD. Mariah has had 3 number one songs on Billboard all three produced by JD. You can feel a way about what he said but he knows what he is talking about

I agree with JD here, but at this point Mariah Carey is an established icon and her place in history has already been set in stone. She could never make another album or do another performance and it still wouldn't hurt her legacy one bit.
I think he is mad because Mariah fired him as her manager but he got some right points, it seems like Mariah stopped listening to people but should JD do this now that you are not Mariah's manager anymore! I mean at some point in time you are in the position to manage her career but your performance as a manager is really disappointing and JD can always approach her so that they can exchange opinions personally.
I dont know if it's the manager's fault or the recording label's fault but I never seen Mariah this hard working on promoting after she moved to Epic and hired LA Reid as her manager. Mariah is basically everywhere to promote #1 to Infinity(Album and show) compared on her MIAM album promotion, where she promoted the "Butterfly" drink than her current CD that time. Maybe Mariah did not promote MIAM coz she is sure of leaving Def Jam after that album coz she's had enough.
Mariah is 20 years past her prime so u can't expect her to be the same. She really has nothing else to prove, so why bother trying to stay relevant? I think she should just fade off into the shadows and go out a legend instead of sticking around and tarnishing her legacy.

Obviously Mariah Carey can't sing like she used to so it's hard for people to let go of what they heard (especially on record). In 2015, her songwriting has been very flat and mediocre. After the Emancipation of Mimi, that was it for her. She had decent songs here and there, but as a whole, that was it. Way to go, Jermaine. You're actually talkin' with some common sense instead of being her puppy dog yes-man, saying how perfect she is and making stupid excuses for her. Ever since E=MC2, Mariah has been at a point where SHE DOESN'T NEED TO TAKE IT AS SERIOUSLY ANYMORE. She's not trying to top the charts anymore, she's doing things for herself and her fans. I love Mariah and she is a huge influence on me as a vocalist, but I gotta say...she seems to have surrounded herself with "Yes" people who simply won't tell her that a lot of her music in the last 10 years has been GARBAGE. Also, she stopped taking voice lessons around the time she left Tommy as he was the one pushing her to take voice lessons. That was the beginning of the decay. That's what happens when we think we've reached perfection, we begin to decay...perfection doesn't have a limit, and you can always keep improving even if you are the best of the best.
