The blooper clip at the end of you riding the bag was so funny! And yes, please convince Chris to do a talks video but you mouthing along his voiceover 😂
I've been using the TravelPro Max Lite bag and think it's still far and away the best one I've used. I recently went to Japan with it and it's a workhorse as far as carry on luggage goes. And add me three to the comments for wanting to see Chris do the voice over video with you. I don't know why everyone is commenting it, but he has a great voice, you have a pretty face, and I am intrigued thinking about the two combined!
I was drawn in by the ads just like you earlier this year, even got the same colour! I also got the backpack in black. As I'm writing this you literally said what my favourite part of the case is too 😂, the compression is unreal! I've completed two 12 day trips to Greece with it on both easyJet and British airways as carry on only. I love how inline the case stays when you're walking and you let go for a minute to adjust something. I've encountered the catching of the handle - usually a bit of rejigging contents on that side to relieve pressure (nothing removed though) will sort that out. I'm too lazy to buff out the scuffs! I've definitely packed more in than you did and without compression/packing cubes - and then brought more stuff back after shopping while there!
Thank you for this. I'd recently bought the Monos Hybrid carry on with the same dimensions and was hearing rumours that they might be too big, especially for domestic WestJet & Air Canada flights. Very helpful.
Great review!! I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on buying a Monos, only because I was worried about it fitting in overhead space on those restrictive European airlines. Thanks for clearing that up!!
Have you reviewed the July Carry On? I would love a comparison between the Mono, TravelPro and July as I have decision paralysis as to what to get for my next carry on only trip :)
Also! Here's a previous video I made showing you how the Monos Carry-on (and others) fit in different airline sizer bins: ruclips.net/video/nrGWNclVhIg/видео.htmlsi=SCgomZsPOqk728e5
Hey Ally… g’day from Australia. I’ve found your videos very helpful. I also have just been to San Francisco and loved your video you did on it. It’s such a cool place.
Why do all of these roller bags seem to exceed the size limits? Air Canada's sizing is restrictive. I bought a duffle bag (I like to be mobile) exactly their allowable size and continuously wonder how these plastic cases are allowed in the cabin... Your sizer demonstration blows my mind (as obviously, you're correct). Good video!
I’m looking for a high-quality clamshell carry on and I fell in love with monos. Unfortunately, the shipping costs 300$ to me in Germany.. that’s more than the bag itsself ☹️
I always worry about the security with a zip all the way round. Is it tamper proof with the old "pen to split the zip open" trick? LOVE the terracota version by the way x
Hello from Australia Ally. I am in regional city called Ballarat (In fact was the richest places at the start of the 19th century because of the gold rush. Nearest capital city is Melbourne). Thanks for all your reviews and tips.
I picked the hybrid carry-on last year because I kept breaking the zipper tabs on other luggage. I will never go back to zippers now. So happy. It also has metal protectors at the corners than the Carry-on. So worth it. The black does scuff and scratch but I use a sharpie to touch it up if the magic eraser can’t. I’m curious how the other colors fair.
Thanks for all the advice on traveling!! I know you do a lot of videos with carry ons, but do you have any checked bag tips and tricks? We are taking a trip to Massachusetts in a few months and don’t want to use carry ons. Any tips or tricks would be great. Thanks for all the info on packing cubes!! I will be trying them.
In your last video someone suggested getting Chris to do a voiceover video for you, I hope you can convince him to do it! I think it would be funny to see you "talk" with Chris's voice
Hi from Sydney Australia. I use July luggage it is very similar to Monos but ships from Melbourne Australia so I’m not having to wait for international shipping
Another Sydneysider here, do you use the July carry on size? I am looking at buying one but no one I know has one. I need one to use weekly for domestic travel.
@@cbuns713 I’ve used the carry on lite but found it too small and the handle was a bit flimsy, I’ve bought the carry on essential but haven’t used it yet, but have used there checked luggage on previous trips and found it excellent
Thanks for another great video! I really want to love this carry on, but I can’t get past the clam shell design. Why don’t more luggage makers produce hard sided cases with just one deep space (like soft side luggage)?
I’ve been using my monos for about 4 years. Love it, I think my daughter messed up the wheels a little because she was using it as a seat while I pushed it 😒 but I mean it’s my bad and also it’s still doing well. I used it several times in Europe and here in the US. I love it and I just purchased one for my husband. First time he ever has a nice suitcase 😂 he’s the I’ll take a duffle bag kind of guy 😂
Great review! I purchased my Monos Carry-On last month and traveled with it for the first time last week. I loved everything about it - with one exception. When I have my backpack on top of the Monos (through the trolley strap on the backpack), it makes it top-heavy and prone to tipping. Anyone else experience that?
Hi Allie.I saw your video about another carryon by Mixi. You praised it because it had more space than the clam style luggage. If you had to pick the best between the Mixi and the monos, which would it be??
Watching from Australia! Jetstar can be really strict with carry on bags, in both dimensions (but especially) weight. 7kg max weight and they do weigh it. Having that limit is so restrictive as even lightweight rolling bags are usually 2-3kg so that doesn't leave much room to pack with.
I have the carry on and the medium size. I bought the protective cover for the medium size. It’s a pain to put it on, at least for me. I’ve used both bags for several trips, and there’s no one single scuff on the medium. So the cover is pricey, but it helps to keep the bag clean.
Great review, thank you! I wonder if it will fit United and Luthansa guidelines for carry-on? Which do you prefer, this Monos or the lightweight TravelPro that you reviewed in another video?
I have the large Monos clamshell in that colour. It is a great well made piece of luggage, however it scuffs easy. It is a bit pricey. (Still love it 🩶)
I know you like doing carry-on only, but would you consider reviewing some luggage suitcases? I have not been able to master carry-on only and am very conflicted about which suitcase would be worth my money as both suitcases I've tried has broken on the first trip.
I did ten weeks overseas with that exact Monos and a backpack. Loved it. I did find that the handle won't extend when the suitcase is quite full, but my husband figured out that if we press down hard on the top of the case (in front of the handle), the handle will then fully extend. 👍
I am an avid tumi bag girl. I got the monos to be more cost effective. It was okay. We had water damage and all the tumi bags were fine except the monos … which is interesting. I find it a difficult warranty. I do love the compression pad! Tumi used to have lifetime warranty but now that they don’t I’m on the hunt for something else- leaning towards Briggs and Riley but not much info on it. Warranty is lifetime ❤, which is why I like it so much.
@Mommyingthis we just purchased a Briggs and Riley International ZDX. Bought it for the features and the lifetime warranty. Haven't used it yet but look forward to seeing how it performs. It's also very light. I just bought a Level 8 and it's not nearly as light.
Good video! I feel that Away Bag sparked a revolution in affordable hard-shell carry-on bags, but most were cheaply made and not very durable. This one looks excellent!
I am right there with you. I was top open all the way, until I tried a newer clam shell and was shocked how much I like it. I got so much more in the clam shell than top open and I didn't have to dig to get at anything. I am now a much more open minded luggage consumer :)
Australia here and I would love some suggestions for cabin bags available in Australia. Virgin Australia cabin luggage weight limit is 7kgs (around 15.5 pounds) which is the most challenging part of travelling domestically with this airline with cabin luggage only. Qantas is more reasonable but their airfares are not!
Nice review. We just purchased a Briggs and Riley ZDX International Carry On Expandable Spinner bag. Yes, its pricey but it comes with a no questions asked lifetime warranty.. so hopefully the last bag she will ever have to buy. I didnt know if you have reviewed this bag. Its light and rolls like buttah.
Hi Aly, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I'm from Perth, Western Australia and I just bought the monos pro and I am planning to travel to London next year with it. I didnt want to go with a large bag as I'm travelling solo and want to keep luggage to a minimum. So thankful you did this review as I was stressing quite a bit on whether it was a good bag/company as I bought it from a youtubers recommendation, I plan to fly Emirates airline and I think the pro is like half a centimetre too big on one of the sides but i'm kind of hoping they ignore that :D I keep seeing people saying to buy merino wool layering garments for over clothing weight reduction/reusability, any thoughts?
thanks for being here! I've recently started testing some merino wool clothing and loooove it. I have a video coming out soon talking about it actually!
Great review my husband and I just purchased monos. We each got the over packer set. And we also got the plastic proctors. I heard about the scoffing. In two weeks we will be using it to travel to Italy and Greece for 3 weeks . I am expecting this luggage to live up to all my exceptions. This is our first hard set. Our soft luggage sets have gotten torn, hands ripped off, dirty etc.
I personally do all my flying today in Asia. One of my concerns is the weight of the bag as many of the Inter-Asian airlines limit carry-on luggage to 7kg. I ended up paying dearly earlier this year due to my carry-on bag being overweight and I do wish to not duplicate that again, however, I want to fly with just my carry-on to make it easier.
Just picked up Nomatic Method really light uses german polycarbonate w expansion. They make great stuff. gonna test it out next week on trip. Brilliant design waaay lighter than competition no wheels penetrating case and eliminate all hardware. more pants 👖
Hi. I am from melbourne Australia and definitely watch your videos. Would be great to include airlines such as Jetstar which has very tight carry in size and weight restrictions and flies heavily between aus and Asia but also Hawaii etc.
Traveling United on international, the measurement limit is 9x14x22 exactly the size of this bag as listed online. Would love to know if it actually fits in the spacers though!
It does! at 9:39 in the video is the United Sizer, or you can watch this video, where I test out several bags (including this one) in the United sizer: ruclips.net/video/nrGWNclVhIg/видео.htmlsi=wK4sSAlfQWdsVUUK
Are you sure the zippers are reversed coil? I have not seen that on their website and you are the first person I have heard mention it. Do you mind sharing where you got your information?
Almost everywhere outside the US carryon weight is the main concern, not the size. Depending on the airline you're limited to either 7kg(15.4lb) or 10kg(22lb) mostly So it would be good to know how much it weighs, if you give up half your carryon weight in the suitcase itself it's not much use.
I’ve been flying with my monos carry on for almost 4 years and I’ve never had a problem with any airline. No one has ever weighed my carry on ever and I do fly quite frequently to Europe. They’re more uptight there and yet we’ve never had weight issues or anything else
I use a Samsonite clamshell that is maybe 1/4" smaller than this one in any given dimension and it's been so much better for any and every trip - even local trips - than my previous soft-side bag that was larger. The only thing I miss is the front pocket that fit my laptop easily, but not a huge deal; clamshells with the same front pocket/flap tend to weigh a couple more lbs it seems (almost an extra kg). I don't even travel enough to look at expensive bags, yet still I find myself watching this sort of content more and more.
@@alysmalls But what you mention on your video is that the capacity of Mixi is 42L while Monos is only 40L. Mixi is 2L more and clearly Monos does not have more sizer or space.
@@alysmallssorry, I didn’t know the exact meaning of sizer. I thought it means more space. Now I understand what it means and 😅 Yeah, Monos fit more sizers of Arline’s.
Hi Aly! I love that you mentioned the analytics and asked if anyone was from any of those other countries. Yes! Australia! 🇦🇺 as mentioned in other comments - Jetstar will sting you if they weigh your luggage and it’s more than 7kgs. A lot of people pay extra with them to take more luggage but it does make the price not so cheap. 😅
1:07 shows it does! I have a longer video where I show how this bag (and others) fit in different airline sizers: ruclips.net/video/nrGWNclVhIg/видео.htmlsi=cd_mdtakzawqd97v
Hi from Taiwan 🇹🇼 I often travel to Japan with only carry-on luggage, so I like watching your channel for tips to pack light. Airlines only allow 7 kg for carry-on luggage here 😀
I am trying to decide between TravelPro Maxlite and monos. I would love to see you pack your TravelPro Maxlite then transfer the contents into the monos to see if there is more room. I have seen others do this w room to spare in their clam shell but… They were also team clamshell, so I’m not so sure how legit their comparison was.
I have 2 Monos and love them and looking at getting either the carry-on or the hybrid carry-on. Does anyone have experience with Turkish airlines? Flying them next year and they seem to have very strict guidelines.
I bought the terracotta carryon last year on US Thanksgiving day. While researching I stumbled upon an old reddit that tracked luggage sale prices and they said that week had the biggest discounts and they were right! I think I paid 171 before tax. Also, I got the Quince cubes. They look almost the same, but they had a pretty green color. Thanks for the review!
Something funny is that when you did the video on the mixi hardcase, I searched on RUclips for additional reviews, and the results just pointed me to other Monos review videos
Another great video Aly! I found you a few weeks ago and since then my wife is addicted to your videos lol! We especially loved the carry on luggage for each airline comparison. Here's a question we hope you can answer. My wife loves the built in coffee cup bag but we are hesitating purchasing it in case we are asked to measure at the gate. It seems extremely unfair that WESTJET cannot get their measurements accurate. The open cage will fit some model luggage but the enclosed cage does not. Also, you demonstrated on how 2 larger size bags fit in the overhead compartments but will not fit in either test holders. Other than travelling smartly with very few items it seems to be a heavy gamble to take everytime one boards WESTJET. I'd love for you to contact WESTJET and make a video in response to this dilemma that leaves many of us frustrated beyond belief. The mono's is a wonderful bag but I'm wondering if you have been asked to check the coffee cup bag at the gate because it won't fit... Knowing full well it does...
People are using the "cage" sizers incorrectly. If you have to "finagle" the case to get the wheels and handles in it's too big. The bag must fit inside the bars, handles and wheels included. The bag has to go straight in and come straight out effortlessly. I actually saw a video where a lady was denied boarding with a duffel type bag that she had to just barely tuck in with her other hand to get into a cage type sizer. The gate attendant made her put it in and take it out twice to double check and told her no it was not acceptable. I was stunned. So it seems at least some are not letting you cram a bag in there and call it good. Which makes sense, and makes things equal for everyone. Of course this is highly airline and employee dependent. It's clearly a subjective process and the airline has the last word.
In my experience, WJ has never made us size the Mixi. When we tested the bags at the airport in that previous video, we spoke to a WJ agent (off the record) and she stated that they *might* be moving to the enclosed sizers in the future, however I can't remember the last time I saw them make anyone size their bag at the gate. That being said, WJ feels like they're going downhill lately, and it wouldn't shock me if they start introducing new ways to squeeze more money out of us!
We had to gate check our carry on last Nov. on a WJ flight to the US, they had us try the sizer at the boarding gate. To be fair, they were stuffed pretty full. I'm shopping around for a back pack that could be used as a personal item for WJ, but their allowed size seems to always be an inch smaller in one dimension. WJ is a tough one.
New subscriber to your channel. Your reviews and content is some of the best travel content I have seen. Will be flying to Scandinavia next year. Will this carryon at 22" fit for KLM-their size is 21.5. Hard to find something that fits. Thank you !
Oh im so due for a new suitcase since mine is so old and kinda busted…I’ve had my eye on this one but it’s pretty steep for how little airplane travel I do.. I just love this terracotta color though!!! I’m considering that mixi one you mentioned recently, though it not much difference in price. Decisions, decisions!
Aly, I've been looking at the monos carry-ons for a while now because it's the only one I can find that actually meets the required dimensions as you said. In addition to the one that you show I'm also interested in the hybrid carry-on because it doesn't have zippers and it actually uses the old fashioned metal frame and clamps. Do you have any experience with this particular model and do you like it as much or better than the traditional?
The clamps are plastic and it’s pretty but…no wiggle room w packing without the zipper. You can’t work your way around the bag w the zipper tucking things in and if you stuff it. It jams easy and can be hard to open
Unfortunately, carryon limit is 7kg for a majority of airlines. Even US airlines. QANTAS has recently upgraded their carryon to 10kg but they are the only one that I know of.
The Labor Day sale for the carry-on is not 25%, it is almost 10% for the carry-on, which gives you $25 off. So instead of 255, it's 229. Better than a stick in the eye. You sold me on it, I bought it, Thank you!! Love your reviews!!!
If it fits Ryanair then it fits anywhere. Be careful with this bag if you want to fly Ryanair. They only allow 10 kg in the overhead and this bag weighs around 3.5 kg so there is not much weight left for the contents.
I’m currently packing my new monos hybrid set for its debut trip in a few weeks. It’s champagne in colour so we’ll see if it stays “classy” or ends up looking “hung over.” 😂
I find a lot of spinner wheel bags roll well on concrete and smooth surfaces but drag uncomfortably and resistantly on any but the hardest surface carpets, and even then they aren’t great. Please add full capacity (50-70lbs) loaded carpet performance to your set of tests!
Hmmm, I only use carry-on bags so I don't think they will ever be packed to weigh that much. In the video I showed that it weighed 8.6 kg (just under 20 lbs) fully packed and it rolled great.
@@alysmalls I may have indicated too much weight for carryon. I still have those issue with a regularly packed spinner wheel int’nat’l carryon. Rolling down a carpeted hotel hallway is too often a pain.
This is my review of the Monos Carry-On after using it on several trips. Here's what I think about its features and how much you can pack in this luggage. *this video is not sponsored!

So thankful you did this review as I was stressing quite a bit on whether it was a good bag/company as I bought it from a youtubers recommendation, I plan to fly Emirates airline and I think the pro is like half a centimetre too big on one of the sides but i'm kind of hoping they ignore that :D
I keep seeing people saying to buy merino wool layering garments for over clothing weight reduction/reusability, any thoughts?
thanks for being here! I've recently started testing some merino wool clothing and loooove it. I have a video coming out soon talking about it actually!
@@alysmalls awesome, I look forward to it as your videos have been super helpful!
I recently found your channel. Such good content. The info you provide is invaluable.
P.s. 5’1” and 6’9”?! Wow. How does that work?! 😅
Would be great to include airlines such as Jetstar which has very tight carry in size and weight restrictions and flies heavily between aus and Asia but also Hawaii etc.
awesome, thanks for the comment!
Hi Aly,
Jeff here from down under, outstanding review on the carry on!
Have ordered one and can’t wait to put it to the test!
Good on ya!
Cheers Jeff
👋
Traveling United on international, the measurement limit is 9x14x22 exactly the size of this bag as listed online. Would love to know if it actually fits in the spacers though!
It does! at 9:39 in the video is the United Sizer, or you can watch this video, where I test out several bags (including this one) in the United sizer: ruclips.net/video/nrGWNclVhIg/видео.htmlsi=wK4sSAlfQWdsVUUK
@@alysmalls thank you so much!
Are you sure the zippers are reversed coil? I have not seen that on their website and you are the first person I have heard mention it. Do you mind sharing where you got your information?
Yes, it's under the 'features' tab, 7th bullet point: shrsl.com/4nras
@@alysmalls So glad to see that! I missed it during my research! Thanks!!!!
They have covers for these bags.
Almost everywhere outside the US carryon weight is the main concern, not the size. Depending on the airline you're limited to either 7kg(15.4lb) or 10kg(22lb) mostly
So it would be good to know how much it weighs, if you give up half your carryon weight in the suitcase itself it's not much use.
I’ve been flying with my monos carry on for almost 4 years and I’ve never had a problem with any airline. No one has ever weighed my carry on ever and I do fly quite frequently to Europe. They’re more uptight there and yet we’ve never had weight issues or anything else
Here from Australia! 🇦🇺
Hello!!
cool bag. post your leg workout.
Great review!
🇦🇺 😊
Hello, has the monos carry on fit on Wizz Airlines?
I use a Samsonite clamshell that is maybe 1/4" smaller than this one in any given dimension and it's been so much better for any and every trip - even local trips - than my previous soft-side bag that was larger. The only thing I miss is the front pocket that fit my laptop easily, but not a huge deal; clamshells with the same front pocket/flap tend to weigh a couple more lbs it seems (almost an extra kg). I don't even travel enough to look at expensive bags, yet still I find myself watching this sort of content more and more.
What would you choose between this monos carry on and mixi carry on which you reviewed not long ago if you have one option?
I love my Mixi, but if I can only choose one, the monos fits in a few more sizers so probably Monos
If they ask you to check it, are you worried it about it being a zipper?
Will it work for LATAM airlines??
yes
Will it fit KLM international?
How about Qatar Airlines?
can you compare monos versus July both in tech version!!!!1
The real challenge is if it fits in the Air Canada sizer!
1:07 shows it does! I have a longer video where I show how this bag (and others) fit in different airline sizers: ruclips.net/video/nrGWNclVhIg/видео.htmlsi=cd_mdtakzawqd97v
Big thumbs up from down under 🇦🇺
🖐
i like your tank top
Hi from Taiwan 🇹🇼 I often travel to Japan with only carry-on luggage, so I like watching your channel for tips to pack light. Airlines only allow 7 kg for carry-on luggage here 😀
👋
I am trying to decide between TravelPro Maxlite and monos. I would love to see you pack your TravelPro Maxlite then transfer the contents into the monos to see if there is more room. I have seen others do this w room to spare in their clam shell but… They were also team clamshell, so I’m not so sure how legit their comparison was.
Which size of Travelpro? I have 3: 19", 20" and 21" lol! I would say this monos fits the same amount as my 20 and 21 inch travelpros
@@alysmalls it measures 22x14x9 with wheels. I think it’s called compact. I just know it has the same measurements as the monos zippered carryon.
Aussie here 👋
👋
I have 2 Monos and love them and looking at getting either the carry-on or the hybrid carry-on. Does anyone have experience with Turkish airlines? Flying them next year and they seem to have very strict guidelines.
What about KLM? Does it work?
yes!
May I know the weight fully packed? Thanks.

Thanks for the review!
for me its the TravelPro Maxlite there you don't have worry and it fits everywhere plus I don't pack that much anyway ;)
Traveling to Germany via Lufthansa. Will check it out. Have any other bag suggestions anyone??? Thanks
Yo, an Aussie here….but. Currently live in the US lol,
❤❤
Hi Aly! Do you edit videos yourself or have you hired someone? I’m an editor and would love to help if you’re interested
Hi. Watching from Thailand. 🇹🇭 Interesting bag, thanks for the review.
thanks for saying hi!
seems like its a fraction to big for the new EU rules if you travel on an EU carrier in the EU
New subscriber to your channel. Your reviews and content is some of the best travel content I have seen.
Will be flying to Scandinavia next year. Will this carryon at 22" fit for KLM-their size is 21.5. Hard to find something that fits. Thank you !
It fits KLM yes!
I haven't used it myself but have heard good things
Unfortunately, carryon limit is 7kg for a majority of airlines. Even US airlines. QANTAS has recently upgraded their carryon to 10kg but they are the only one that I know of.
The Labor Day sale for the carry-on is not 25%, it is almost 10% for the carry-on, which gives you $25 off. So instead of 255, it's 229. Better than a stick in the eye. You sold me on it, I bought it, Thank you!! Love your reviews!!!
Australia here, our carry on bag limit is very strict. 7kg only and that’s the bag, not another bag allowed
So tough! I think my bag came in at 7.1kg fully packed in this vid: ruclips.net/video/7E5Ao0sqVp4/видео.htmlsi=MxdIxXLQkaOq9BY3
Great you showed the weight , coming from Australia most airlines have 7 kg carryon weight limit so the empty weight is important as well.
Works on KLm too!
I don’t believe that your all stuff was just 5 kg ?
What about Qatar airways ?
Qatar is 50x37x 25 and this bag is 56 x 36 x 23
Finnair?
Finnair is 55cm x 40cm x 23cm and this bag is 56cm x 36cm x 23cm
If it fits Ryanair then it fits anywhere.
Be careful with this bag if you want to fly Ryanair. They only allow 10 kg in the overhead and this bag weighs around 3.5 kg so there is not much weight left for the contents.
I’m currently packing my new monos hybrid set for its debut trip in a few weeks. It’s champagne in colour so we’ll see if it stays “classy” or ends up looking “hung over.” 😂
omg I love this haha
@@DianaOfPortland at 1:18 in the video there is a shot of me rolling it on the carpeted hallway of the hotel, it was quite smooth!
Hi, I have the carry-on and the medium size. I usually pack the medium up to 50lbs, no problem at all rolling it over carpet.
