Every day was an adventure... different cultures, new experiences, good food, good beer, hot sun, always great people and my first summer romance. That was freedom. That was life. We should not forget to keep living.
Dude! You made me remember my experience during the summer of 2018. I had the chance and privilege to do a 4-week intensive German course in Berlin. Best month of my life so far. I can totally relate with the "everyday was an adventure" line, it truly was. New experiences, new culture, new people, good beer by the river at sunset... and I was totally living in the present, everyday. Not even planning for the next few days, nothing. I’m not loving it. It’s interesting that other people who like the original, do like it though. Her voice is great, I’ll say that. But I always thought Lou Reed’s songs suited his voice. They were uneasy tales told from the edge of life. And Lou’s voice, low and deep, slightly off key and peculiar timing, was the kind of voice you’d imagine to be telling these stories. Angelic voices don’t pair well with the song’s story. I think other poet musicians: Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Gareth Liddiard, they are similar. It makes the songs hard to cover. You can’t just grab a guitar & start singing. But that’s just my opinion. I’m a massive Lou Reed fan so maybe I just can’t accept cover versions.

This is a song about decadence and depravity in the darker corners of the city. Originally sung by a dark-haired man dressed in black, wearing sunglasses, probably in some darkened club. The bliss of being alive and the pain of being alone
So poetic of you to say this.
The strength, character, and soulfulness of her voice at 3 minutes and 17 seconds is mindbendingly beautiful. She owns the song !
If anyone's interested, the song is about three NYC transvestites from the 70s who used to hang out with Andy Warhol..Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, and Jackie Curtis...
mykeydrive super interesting trivia.. i keep a snapshot of the apollo theatre sign in the page of my lyrics book ,by my walk on the wildside lyrics many dont see the relevance till they hear me refer to it
Still a great song..love lou reed
Also Joe "Little Joe" Allessandro.
Trans women** at the time transvestite would've been the right language but today is considered a slur by many. Jus tryin to leave a friendly reminder not anythin more
@jack cuddy yes jack!!
She reminds me of the teenage girl from jurassic park.
edit: three years later and I’m back to this video for a listen. I had no idea that my comment got so many likes ❤
Gavin Rutter yea I see that !!!
Really a dichotomy of a sweet young blond singing this gritty, underworldly song
Shit yeah! However she's prettier than the Jurassic girl :-)
Lmao
I don t remember I smoked too much
Heck yes
Holly came from Miami F.L.A.
hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
shaved her leg and then he was a she
She says, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
Candy came from out on the island
in the backroom she was everybody’s darling
But she never lost her head
even when she was givin’ head
She says, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
Little Joe never once gave it away
everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City is the place where they said
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
and the coloured girls go
Doo, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
lookin’ for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
you should have seen him go-go-go
They said, hey Sugar
take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
all right, huh
Jackie is just speeding away
thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
valium would have helped that bash
She said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey babe
take a walk on the wild side
and the coloured girls go
Doo, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
I knew someone commented the lyrics, and I was not dissapointed! Thank you very much!!!
thank you
rip Lou.
i can’t even verbally express how perfect this is
Lou Reeds version was perfect, just the way it was. Always will be.
@outsideliesmagic agreed
Lou Reed is smiling with you.
I doubt it
You must know nothing about Lou, lol
Lou would probably sue her.
Lou would shut you up. Immediately! Geez
No he's not lmfao, probably smirking at the most but with cynical intent
I get happy squirms when I watch this. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Love it, thank you 💛
Thank you so much for sharing these terrific recordings of Alice Phoebe Lou's performances. I grew up to these songs and sometimes become possessive of the originals. But, Miss Alice Phoebe Lou is a true talent. Her version of this is absolutely her own. It is lovely. And so is she. Thanks again!😽💖🎶
A very talented beautiful young lady enjoying and sharing her craft with us. You can see it in her happy child-like soul bearing laughter at the end! Awesome!
Damn some people just got talent dripping
I’m about to cry,Lou Reed is especially important for me and I truly love this video
Me too ...
My favorite version ever. So unique and creative. Absolutely amazing!🔥
Lou Reed can rest in peace, succession is assured. Beautiful version of that song !
Her voice doesn't even sound real! Amazing
She may be the most adorable human I've ever laid eyes on
One of my favourite songs with a wonderful rendition. What a powerful voice.
What can one say.
She made it her own. The important thing is that someone from her generation even thought/chose to cover such an iconic classic.
She's consciously keeping Rock alive.
Albeit, with a distinctly youthful flair.
Good on her! 😁👍
I love this peice of youtube out of all of hers, just cause you can see how much truthfull this is just hear this laugh how much she's enjoying what she's doing...
Hey girl, you touch my soul when you sing! Thanks a bunch for share your gift
What a beautiful voice! She brought new life to one of my favorite Lou Reed songs.
She is Asian
This could very well be the first reinterpretation of a hit that I ever liked. She sings it so effortlessly where most others try too hard to make it different, squeezing whatever talents they have beyond breaking point.
Impressive.
Lou Reed is smiling with you.
Thank God this was in my recommended
The cover is so beautiful that there's no words to explain it's magnificence.
Holy-smoke, what an amazing performance. 😊❤😊
Such an amazing voice.
Oh yeah, she is beautiful too.
She sings so honestly with real joy, unabashed, though she’s sung it a thousand times probly.
so ive visited berlin for another time and usually i dont stand by seeing street musicians even though i love the fact there are so many.
and then i crossed this lovely woman and there is just something magical about her. so i stood there for a while just watching her
and i couldnt look somewhere else for like forever. i cant tell you how long it was because i forgot about time. and thats how i fell in love with her.
i just keep on coming back to this video every now and then, beuatifull voice, stunning appearance, top preformance and a out of this world laugh thnx Alice Phoebe Lou.
This cover is absolutely magical. I could listen to this every day and her laugh and voice would still transport me to a place of nostalgia for my past crazy days, and hope for future adventures. Truly a work of art
excellent rendition of a true classic, Lou would like it I'm very sure, RIP Lou Reed...

My girlfriend discovered Alice 6 years ago and we went to see her in SF as soon as we could after we discovered her….
Our relationship just ended after 6 years and I decided to go back and check out this version again. Just brought back chills and tears and such great memories.
An absolute incredible, humble and gorgeous artist!
