    His teacher and Derek, should be awarded with something like an MBE for not only his work and bond with Derek but the inspiration both of them have on the rest of the country and world for that matter. I'm glued to these videos, truly inspirational on so many levels!

    Derek stands up, scoots over a little bit, and then sits down again. And yet he puts his hands down exactly on the notes he wants without hunting around. Stunning.

    Love how nothing ever fazes this guy. Turns left, turns right, listens to Adam and sings and still doesn't mess up. A legit genius! Plays stuff on the spot from memory, makes stuff up, plays in any style. Sure there are other pianists who can do that, but Derek's also austistic and blind and has such personality

    Quite apart from autism, his playing is wise and gentle, funny yet powerful, full of emotion, perfected to the highest level, teaching us about the universe. Astounding. Derek's playing seems as natural as a summer breeze. Plus he looks a little like Ray Liotta in "Goodfellas".

    I love this guy so much! Incredible and brilliant talent. I'm so happy that he found the music and this awsome teacher of him. His definition of the notes are amazing and his absolute pitch. You can play to him even how difficult chord at all and he will repeat it instantly by one single hearing. Just unbelievable!

  • @pamiparocks

    18:00 Oh man, that just cracked me up. Derek will do WHATEVER you tell him... exactly how you tell it. This way, the other way, no this way, other way. Seems like Derek likes to play on that sarcasm a bit which is so awesome to have. Makes him really seem so relatable. Love it.

    I desperately want to play him the Lovesexy concert version of Venus di Milo by Prince, and ask him to play it for me.
    I'd like Derek to have other instruments to try as well, like a Moog, Arp, Hammond organ and that new keyboard with touch sensitive sliding keys.

      That's Adam, Derek's piano teacher for the blind who has been working with Derek since he was 5 years old. During presentations, he needs musical prompts and guidance from Adam.

  • @maulcs
    @maulcs 11 лет назад +5

    Adam seems a little too... controlling.

    • @jpo900
      @jpo900 11 лет назад +25

      Not being rude, But when dealing with a person as "handicapped" as Derek, you must be pretty firm. i understand where you are coming from, though.

    • @johnrayker6245
      @johnrayker6245 7 лет назад +1

      Yep. He probably needs really strict directions. He has no talent with words at all and wouldn't understand Adam fast enough otherwise, I guess. And he's being really nice and calm with Derek still.

      The teacher is humming as a form of coaching. He is helping Derek with dynamics, style, and rhythm.

    • @doomkeepercanada
      @doomkeepercanada 7 лет назад +1

      Being that he keeps turning on the hand mic, I'm pretty sure he had no idea his lapel mic was on. It's a small window into his coaching style that you wouldn't otherwise see, so I didn't mind it to much. I'm sure he'd be horrified to know it made the recording.
