    Ali, Derek miss a big point: if he hadn't have done many, many times the bike ride with full effort in 43 minutes before the chilled version of 45 minutes (take it as a hard training), but start with the chill version, it could had been 50-55 minutes, maybe one hour. He was a trained man at this point, who did loads of effort with full power. That is why the chill ride gave him only 2 min difference... I still feel the power of the example, but there's this huge flip in his logic what I think is important not to miss!!!

    Allie, I have not watched you in a while several months in fact. I just want you to know that, you know what I just wanted to know thank you. You’re the reason that I am starting finally plucking up the energy to start my RUclips channel. I really don’t know other words except thank you so much for sharing everything they share and literally when you said the part where Eric shivers talks about just because it’s obvious to you doesn’t mean it’s not special. Doesn’t mean it’s not helpful and that other people don’t need to hear it or shouldn’t hear it. Like that was like a weight of worry that I didn’t even realize I was caring about starting a RUclips channel. Like I hadn’t even consciously realize that that was part of the problem why I haven’t started.I have all the love and good vibes to you, bro.

    Before I buy something I ask myself if I couldn’t show or tell anyone about it, would I still want it? I also like to do the thought exercise if you had the money to build any house you wanted but it was in the middle of the woods and no one would ever see it, what would you really want in it? Keeping in mind you are responsible for all upkeep.

    I find that the 7/10s aren't hard to say no to because I think I should do them for me, but rather because someone else believes they need it. This leeds to me sayins yes, and I wind up taking on a lot of work for others so they are happy and not dissapointed. This definitely leads to me not getting to things that I'm really excited about.

    A small note / doubt on idea 2, saying no to evverything that is not a hell yeah would not essentiALI work when you are in a realtionship or have children. Imagine this, your wife enjoys going to shop and deeply values your companionship for the same, or she is deeply religious and would like you to accompany you to a place of worship once in a while, what do you do then [assuming you don't enjoy either]? you say no and remain selfish / use your time for yourself or you still muster the energy to say yes to respect that relationship and be with them. Same with children? not opposing the thought itself, just wanted more clarity around this. Thanks in advance.
    P.S - this video & most of your videos are so LIT! thank you for the service to the community. You literally inspire me to do something similar to an Indian Audience, preferably in a local language.

    • @QueTubeTV
      @QueTubeTV 2 месяца назад +18

      This is dope question and I would love to see Ali’s clarity around it. I wonder if in the example you gave, the hell yeah would be the principle of cultivating your companionship with your wife and children and having a healthy family, so while the actual activity isn’t a hell yeah activity, the principal and end result of the activity is a hell yeah outcome. Just my thoughts on it, great question tho!

    • @BennyDeeDev

      If someone is not really in it, I would rather not have them come with me, but I get that it might be different for children/wife

    • @sallyenglish5929
      @sallyenglish5929 2 месяца назад +18

      I think in this case, loving your wife or children IS the hell yeah. If you truly love someone, you want to make them happy, and they themselves are your hell yeah in that situation. In this perspective, the book’s line of thinking still applies.

    "Hell yeah" is an exceptionally high threshold for decision making; too high for most practical purposes. Good decisions also shouldn't depend solely (or many times at all) on the basis of an emotion, not least of all one as fickle as excitement. I can appreciate that your life has reached a place where practicality has met its upper limit, but for many of your listeners what's practical is what's wisest and best.

    • @PeaceOfMake
      @PeaceOfMake Месяц назад +4

      This.
      I'm out of work for far longer that I thought I'd ever be. And by this point I'm 100% sure the position I land will not be a "hell yeah". Not even a 7/10, actually.

    • @CarrieLovesLife.
      @CarrieLovesLife. Месяц назад +1

      I don’t think of it in terms of ‘excitement’. I think a ‘hell yeah’ has more to do with the thing being in alignment with the life you want to be living, and also NOT doing things solely because you think you should, or you are people pleasing.

    I really love Idea #5: Obvious to you, Amazing to others! I’m currently doing my PhD and the findings from my research feel super obvious to me (because it’s what I think about all day, every day), to the point where I question whether I should bother publishing, because they’re so obvious, right? But when I discuss my findings with my supervisors and peers, they always say “wow, I hadn’t thought of it that way before!”. So I’ll keep this tip in mind while I’m writing up my research to remind myself that my findings are worth publishing!

    My mother is allways rushing and she is allways telling us to rush. She has made it a rule in her life and it seemed to serve her, but I think it comes at a cost. It gets you so stressed. I am starting to think that it's a coping mechanism for her, because she wants to do everything that she possibly can. She doesn't want to waste time and therefore she doesn't want to take it slow. Also she doesn't want to feel guilt for anything that she still didn't do. So if she just makes sure that she is crazy busy all the time, than you cannot blame her, can you? It's really difficult to make life choices and even more difficult to teach others how to make life choices. And there are so many ways to run away from responsibility. There is also a taboo on admitting that normal life is hard. And there is so much pressure to follow other people's rules to life, even if you feel like it doesn't serve you. In order to move forward I will need to unlearn some things my mother taught me. But it's a real struggle. And it doesn't help our relationship either.

    Another version of the and/or thing is just to ask yourself "Is this a requirement for my happiness?" I've never honestly been able to answer yes to this question. Turns out wellbeing is not dependent on anything external.

    Thanks for this. At 49 yrs old, I’ve now recognized that about every 4-5 years I find myself in a state of overload, and thus frustration. Spreading myself way to thin across way too much, and stressing on little things.
    So I then start to “reset” by unloading the various (7/10) things that somehow creeped in and took over my time and energy (because I said yes when I should have said no).
    That reset generally takes about a year to unravel and unload the clutter, and then I’m back to much better peace of mind.
    I’m really trying to not let this cycle repeat again.

    I actually had a similar realization to the bike story while... riding my ebike to work. I was having an off day but was trying to push myself. I was going around 16 mph on a road, and was trying to get to work in a reasonable amount of time. Then I decided "screw it" and eased up, and ended up going... 15.5 mph. But it felt a lot easier. I just thought "wow, I could've been going at a more chill pace this entire time"

    Got a minute and a half into this video and realized it's all about wealthy privilege. So many people in the world don't have the opportunity to even ask this question. We are a privileged bunch.

      Not every book is for everyone and that doesn't make the information less valuable. That said, everyone has time to think and discover themselves. That's what I did to break free from the lack and struggle I was born into.

    Yes or no? It's very true when starting. Your insecurities and your fear of missing out have you saying yes, then after years in the game and focusing on getting the work done and progressing, almost everything is a no. Stay Uncommon!
