  • Southern Railway King Arthur Class Locomotive "Sir Lamiel" No 30777 visited Hastings with an excursion train in April 1995. He can first be seen as light engine running tender first through St Leonards Warrior Square, then in the sidings at Hastings with coal being shovelled forward. He then gets into position for departure at the front of his train and with much smoke and steam in evidence, departs beneath Linton Road Bridge, from where I'm filming, and disappears into the tunnel toward Warrior Square pulling his train. Also, Morgan's train can be seen in the yard and on the bridge; a Karrier lorry dressed up to look like a train which was often seen at carnivals and special events in the Hastings area the 1990s. Towards the end of the video we see "Sir Lamiel" with his train at Battle railway station and the final shot at the very end is of "Sir Lamiel" and his train tearing through the level crossing at Eatenden Lane, Mountfield by which time it has started to rain.

So nice to see a southern loco on "home metals , I moved to Hastings a couple of years later so I missed this shindig, by this time the line had been upgraded and the King Arthur could get through the narrow tunnels . 40 years earlier it would have been a schools class !! . Nice to see the old lattice overbridge before they put the new one in . Great video. -bud the painter-
