Thanks for rewatching guys!! The first one got taken down because we included the intro song, so here is the updated version! Please interact in any way you can to help us COMBAT THE COPYRIGHT DEMONS!
Have you guys thought of making a blooper reel from your recording of shows? I'm sure there's plenty of hiccups you guys made that you think is hilarious
Fun thing about alchemy in this series compared to other magic systems: it’s all learned, no one is born without it, and it doesn’t have specific versions between individuals. Anyone could potentially become an alchemist in any field, but it’s a difficult art to learn, so all the alchemists you see in the show are quite intelligent people. It’s sort of like how anyone could be a master martial artist, but it’s still uncommon. On top of this, the more advanced forms of alchemy, like the varieties you see used by state alchemists, involve secretive methods they keep close to their chests. This is why you’ll usually see the more advanced alchemists in the series performing alchemy you don’t see others using.
I really like that. No one is born magically “special” or “chosen.” They studied and worked hard! I think it makes them more interesting as characters.
** Spoiler ** . . . Nah, i would clarify that only certain people can perform alchemy. Those who don’t have “it” can only study it theoretically. That’s why you see Trisha was so amazed that her boys can perform alchemy. Subsequently, Ed gave up his ability to perform alchemy in exchange for Al’s body, but he was still going to travel around the world to study it.
I think a good comparison is ki from Dragon Ball. Anyone can learn to manipulate ki, and with enough training, master it. Yea, there are some who are more naturally inclined towards it, but since it's just using lifeforce as power basically, all you need is to keep training with it and eventually even an ordinary human could learn to fly. The scene where Gohan is teaching both Videl and Goten is a good example of this. Goten is more naturally inclined and can fly easily while Videl needs to focus to even hover off the ground slightly.
One cool fact. Ed & Al's dad, Hoenhiem, they pulled his name from history. There was an alchemist in real life named Hoenhiem, you can look him up. Of course irl alchemy was nothing like the magic system in the show. It was more like chemistry. Irl alchemists were trying to find a material called " The Philosopher's Stone" which was supposed to be able to change lead into gold.
Man you guys are engaging, I subbed after just the one video. Loving the extra edits for things like the countdown on discussion and the counters, the work is super appreciated. This is a hell of a ride you guys have embarked on, I'm loving the prospect of joining you for it
Thanks so much! I (Kenny) edit all of the videos and we really work hard to try to slow burn these shows, really take our time and discover everything we can about them using analysis, while at the same time using editing to make the experience feel like we all felt the first time watching any given show. Glad you're enjoying it, and welcome aboard!
I subbed after 3 and a half minutes and I've watched a lot of reactors that I'm still not even subbed to mate. Sometimes I want to see other people's perspective on a show but I'm not invested enough into their channel or dialogue to sub but these guys are a cut above other reactors I've seen.
Fun fact: Armstrong's middle name (Louis) is a reference to Louis Armstrong. A really famous Jazz musician from New Orleans. I laughed really hard the first time I heard his name
@@isazfringe9540 A simple google search and you can see that you are wrong. As they have stated in their other reply, people generally name their sons and daughters differently from each other. So they wouldn't have the same middle name just the last name. It varies from family to family, but having different ones are common.
⚠ NOT SPOILERS, READ TO AVOID MISSING IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FUTURE EPISODES ⚠ Episodes 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, and 49 have scenes after the credits; they are sometimes just fun little vignettes, but often they include significant details that will be relevant later on, and that might make some future events confusing if you haven't watched them; it's therefore highly recommended to watch them. If you don't have this list at hand, just look at how much time is left in the video when you get to the credits; if it's more than usual, there's almost certainly a post-credits scene. Furthermore, the credits in episodes 45, 54, 63, and 64 are different than usual, and worth watching (especially the ones in 64, which everyone will probably be expecting a reaction to).
Just because this story is original to the anime doesn't make it filler. Filler means "not relevant to the plot". This episode was extremely relevant to the plot. An anime original story can be relevant to the plot.
You guys love to think and I love how smart the discussion break is for copyright and for the audience! I’m gonna enjoy watching you guys’ full reaction!
You commented that Ed and Al likely did not have a great support system due to committing the taboo. Now that you have seen more, how have your thoughts on that changed?
i recently followed you guys due to your FMAB reactions, 0:33 i envy this feeling, this is one of those anime that i would wanna forget just to rewatch it and fall in love with the anime again :D
Just found your channel today and already have to say that how you guys have the layout with the timers and ways to avoid copyright and giving the time a purpose is really smart. Nobody ever does that. Plus this is my 2nd favorite anime of all time (code geass is 1) and its always entertaining to see people who've never seen it watch it for the first time
Currently streaming this with my friend because we can't watch the actual anime together and you don't cut out too many scenes, you just make breaks. Thank you!
I know it's not finished yet, but this reaction series is already establishing itself as a comfort series for me! I've watched this first episode three times already lol
I just found this. I really love how you guys do the discussion breaks for both copyright and for discussion. Super cool hearing your thoughts in more details .
gotta re add my comment it seems :> You guys are going to LOVE this anime. Pay special attention to the hand to hand combat. The fight Choreography is INSANE.
importing editing tip use roto scoping for your cut out instead of masking its mostly found in after effects but its a super clean way for you to cut your selfs out of the background
The thing I take away from the 2st versus 2nd episode thing is that the first episode introduces us to the world and the very basic character dynamics. The second episode introduces us to Ed and Al specifically and how they view alchemy and, therefore, how they view the laws of the world and what it is that they want, which in this case is their original bodies.I think for a story that has as many intricate plot-points and very specific laws about how that universe works, having it be two separate episodes helps ease the viewer into the universe.
gee, this seems familiar lol. but yeah including the openings is kind of the kiss of death for this show, cause of the audio. Again is one of the best openings in all of anime though, so it kind of balances out i think lol.
Wow! Its been a while since ive been on your channel, ive been a fan since you started ATLA. Its been great to see how much you've grown and its great to see you all doing well!
just saw you started this reaction series and i'm sure i'm super late and not the first person to say it but i suggest watching the 1st opening after you finish the series. it's one of the few openings that genuinanly has a major drastic shift in delivery once you know the story of certain characters. also also Solf J Kimbley the crimson alchemist is trully one of a terrible few very unique characters that i really have not seen in any other anime or manga since FMA. this vid just reminded him how misunderstood he really is by those around him. which is typicial for sociopaths
Are you planning on checking out the first few episodes of the Original FMA anime? I think there is a lot of foundational world and character-building in there that makes brotherhood's accelerated introduction feel a bit more full. The story veers off from the manga at some point, which is what brotherhood addresses.
I'm sad that so many new anime viewers just skip the original FMA. Brotherhood rushes through so much important stuff assuming you've already seen the 2003 series.
I haven’t watched this series in years, it’s so nostalgic. Also I came here after catching up on the MHA reactions and hearing Armstrong’s voice really made me do a double take lol. Thought I was watching the wrong show for a second. I watched MHA long after FMAB and just never made the connection I guess
I know this is pretty late, but just a note about the title: In Japanese, it's "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi". "Hagane" actually means "steel", so it would make more sense if it were "Steel Alchemist". I think Arakawa (the author) might have been the one to come up with the official English title. Not sure where "fullmetal" comes from, but just know it's actually referring to steel.
Calling Armstrong All might is funny as I instantly recognized him from something else, I hope he realizes that he also Voices Vegeta and Piccolo from DBZ💀
"Comment below if you want Montana to watch my hero-" Me: "I WANT MONTANA TO WATCH MY HERO, more because I think she'd love it, and love a lot of the characters. I think it would make her happy 🙌👌
An unfortunate part of brotherhood is the beginning is somewhat rushed, and some of the episodes arent as good adaptations as their equivalents in the 2003 version. But theyre still pretty good, the beginning episodes of brotherhood vs the 2003 is just like a solid 6/10 vs 9/10s. Of course once brotherhood gets its stride it goes right up to a high 9 or even a 10
I hope you will react to the original Fullmetal alchemist. I think you would enjoy that too and then you can discuss about the difference between the two series. They seem like two parallel dimensions with totally different stories so I recommend that one as well after the brotherhood.
The funniest part about watching the subbed version of this show is the opposite of the reason most people watch subs. When I watch Naruto for instance, it sounds unnatural/awkward for the english voice actors to say certain names. It will always sound more natural for naruto to be pronounced in the language in which the name was conceived. However... this series is the exception. Edward is unpronounceable in everyday japanese, so his name is "Eduardo" which is just great.
Thought this was Ep1 from the 2003, series, hope you guys eventually see some of those as there’s tons of great character development they skip in brotherhood because everyone had already seen 2003 (back then anyway)
