I used to work at Jessups as an apprentice from 1979 until 1985 when I got married and went to work at the Ford Tractor plant in Basildon, great to see Gants ill again
Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Gantshill from 1973 til 2000, then moved away for work. Sometimes change is good and sometimes bad. Gantshill is a mini ghetto/suburb of Ilford nowadays.
Damn, thanks for uploading this. I'm from Ilford and this video was made 2 months before I was born. I've moved away now to America but this was the nostalgia I needed.
I lived here until I was 22 and moved away in 1977 and all my friends have moved away too. My only tie to the area all these years has been my mother and now she is gone. The area has gone down and I will be quite happy never to come here again. Valentines Park is nice though.
Omg that’s amazing. The cinema a treat to go. Looks so calm fast forward to current year high rise flats pace of life is fast it’s like a mini city but in the suburbs. I still live round here
Great stuff, if only you went 15mins down the road and did this in Leyton. I would love to see footage of 89 in Leyton. I still have family in Gants Hill. The house prices considering it was 89 was a bit on the pricey side too.
Ron P Smith - excellent work. Did you write the bio book about Gants Hill? All that is needed now is a sound track by Louise Wener frontwoman in the band Sleeper and born in G H in 1966!

That Odeon brings back memories of my 1st visit in 1984 age 7. Saw Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters that same year

Ron Smith iI salute you sir. Short of a time machine, this is amazing and very nostalgic. I miss the gantshill of yesteryear.
It looks *exactly* the same 34 years on lol
Used to be such a nice area. Have fond memories of growing up there in the late 90s. It’s been in rapid decline for the past 15 years
It sure has. I use to love this area as a kid. I remember the birds in valentines park. I mean the ones that fly.
Oh what memories, I remember working at Starbyte Computers which I think you can see at 0:13s behind the white van.
Thanks for the memories. How it's changed

Beautifully shot and with a good quality camcorder for the time too. Wonderful to see.
The Odeon 😊
Remember going there as a kid. Now replaced by bland flats
Then they tore down the pub opposite too because of noise complaints from those flats
@@MrBrennan118118 The Valentine pub? Used to go there in the late 90s
@@cianog Yeah that's the one. Faces is still there though!

Amazing - thanks so much for uploading this. I was brought up in the 3rd house from the shops at the roundabout end of Beehive Lane!
I used to live at no 51, close to Cranbrook Road.
Totally different world now!
How this country has dramatically improved since then….that was satire btw.
Nice. Was a child living locally at that time.
The houses look absolutely the same

Or Jules De Martino of The Ting Tings…
Great video, feel sad about the Odeon though it was a beautiful art deco building now it's a ugly block of flats
I watched robin hood and Edward scissor hand there 😢
@@samali4327me too😅
I used to live there
What happened to the birds at valentine's park?
They were enlisted for war and are currently in Spain
@@storm3698ah yes they have now moved to Ukraine fella to fight Putin.
You wouldn’t want to live there now.
