Hi Emilie, Thanks so much for the excellent advice in your video. I have now set up a custom mode on my OM-1 for birds in flight, using very similar settings to the ones you suggest (although I use CAF rather than CAF+TR with bird AI). I had never used Manual Mode With Auto ISO before I watched your video. But I then found a video by Pangolin Wildlife Photography entitled "MANUAL MODE With AUTO ISO - A Game Changer for Wildlife and Nature Photographers", and that explains very clearly the advantages of using this mode for photographing wildlife.
Hi Peter, with the OM-1 you are correct to use the CAF for bird tracking. That is what OM SYSTEM recommends. I clarified in my video description as I realized later my mistake (coming from the EM1 Mark III)
I’m unable to act on your advice at this time Emilie as I’m still waiting for the camera!! When I eventually have one I am going to experiment by using the EM1 X set up with the Olly 300 f4 Pro and the new OM 1 set up with my Olly 150-400 Pro. Then decide if I want to get a second OM 1. Your comments are most welcome. The other issue is wether or not to trade in the old 40-150 pro for the new one. Size matters…..🤔🤫 when travelling. Again, your opinion valued. May I also respectfully advise you that the sound of of recordings, seems a little flat/ muffled. As I am ageing I take into account that my hearing will become impaired but in my hifi days one might have suggested more gain/treble and volume. I can wind the volume up on the MacPro or tv but not the IPad. Anyway that’s just feedback and not that important in the scheme of things. Keep safe over there !
Hi Andrew. Thank you for your feedback. I had a lot of issues with the rode mic but hopefully, they can fix the issues soon. I will try to find a better solution for my next video. Good questions about the 40-150. I have not used the new 40-150 so it is hard for me to speak about it. In terms of size, the new lens is definitely better as you mentioned but I do like my 40-150 f/2.8 so I will probably keep mine and not invest in the new 40-150 but that is my personal preference. I can see how many people might prefer the new 40-150. I do own the 12-100 so for traveling that is my go-to lens. In the future, I am planning on traveling with the 12-100 pro, 150-400 pro, the 60mm macro and the 12mm.
Hello Emily just got my OM1 after 4 months, spent 3-4 hours setting it all up including custom modes using your guidance. Went outside a took some images when I plugged my card reader +sd card into my iPad I found out that you cannot import Raw files onto an Apple Product ?? Further investigation I found apple don’t yet support OM1 raw files only jpeg. Had to reset everything to Lsf jpeg, I hope Apple do support Om1 raw soon as they support the OmD models. Any thoughts Laurence.
Hi Thank you so much. Very informative. How do I get viewfinder to work? no one see.s to talk about that in videos. I just bought the camera a d the viewfinder is off. I can only see the thing I want to shoot in the screen. The viewfinder is black.
To get the most out of your camera, it is worth investing in a fast card: UHS-II cards. I use the Scan disk one and I have been happy with this brand but there are a lot of other great brands too that have UHS-II cards. I have 32GB and 64GB .
Hello Emilie, when you are doing Macro you can also use SAF + MF to get the exact focus point. But then it is SAF first and then adjusting manually. In your way it is: focus manually first and then got to SAF. What would be best for macro photography?
Hi Peter. When I use the 60mm macro, I only use MF if I want the 1x1 magnification. What I do to acquire focus is just move my body back and forth until I get the focus when I want it to be.
Thanks for this video. I'm reassured that while the menu layout is different, most of the logic seems to be the same. One question: to use back button focus, will I need to disable the setting that activates AF with a half-press of the shutter button? I needed to do this to set up back button focus on my E-M1 Mark II. It looks like here you just press "AF ON" and back button focus is the default. Please clarify. And FYI, I'll be setting up C1 for S-AF and single exposure, C2 for birds in flight as you do except I don't trust tracking, and C3 for ProCap in whatever configuration works with C-AF. @darkskiesimages
@@nickcrispe1321 Congrats on the new OM-1! Yes, you will need to disable AF. Go to menu 3 (AF), then on 1st page, it is the 4th tab: AF by half-pressing and select no for both trackings.
@@EmilieT really enjoy your informative videos (I am a bit late to the game, but just got my OM-1). I love the new back button focus button, but don't we have to change the shutter button setting so that when the shutter button is pressed it will not try to focus once we have pushed the AF-ON button and only take the picture?
@@virhua Thank you for your comment and question. I put my camera in MF and I have allowed AF-ON button to work even on MF. To do that, go to Menu-> AF->1.AF->AF-ON in MF mode.
Hi Roger. Thank you for your comment. Bird detection is set on my AEL button. So it is always a push of a button away. This way it gives me a lot of flexibility.
Bonjour Emilie. Toujours un immense plaisir de vous suivre. Grand merci pour cette petite leçon, bien utile. Greetings from Switzerland!
Merci beaucoup! J'étais près de la suisse il y a quelques jours. Magnifique pays!
Doing custom sewing was exactly what I needed to do tonight. Thank you for showing us Emillie.
Very helpful. Thanks!
This is helpful. My OM-1 arrived the other day. Also, your voice is pleasant to listen to. 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Just got an om-1 and it is my first Olympus camera. Excited to use all these awesome features!
Congratulations on your OM-1!
Fantastic - have set my camera as you have … fingers crossed! Many thx Emilie
Emilie, le sous-titrage en français est vraiment une aide importante et j’espère que vous maintiendrez la traduction à l’avenir. Merci
Hi Emilie, thank you for sharing your tips for quick setup of the new OM-1! Mine just arrived today & I can't wait to dive in and start setting it up.
Hi Deirdre. I am so excited for you!! Welcome to the OM SYSTEM family! You are going to have so much fun :)

Hi Emilie, I have a question for you. Can I record video in 2 memory cards with Olympus om1?
Hi Eugenio. I believe you can only record to one card
Thank you. Will use this when I get the OM-1. I am a G9 user this will be my first time with Olymp... oops... OM-Systems :)
Ordered mine this morning. The guy at my local camera store said they are selling a lot.

Hi Laurence. They do now. Make sure to have the latest firmware from Apple (iPadOS 16.2). I just updated yesterday and it is working.

I have never heard of this. Was the viewfinder not working when you first started the camera?
Also where did you buy the camera?
@@EmilieT From an Olympus dealer.
@@EmilieT Found it in settings..Not sure why that would not be just be the defacto setting but seems to work now.
@@billbrown994 Glad it is working now.
Does your om1 fells warm while making photos?
Should I get concern?
No. Maybe if I leave it on and pressed the recording button and forget to turn it off or if I do a lot of focus stacking but otherwise no.
Emilie what memory cards do you recommend? Thanks

On the E-M1 MarkII, yes you do need to disable the setting that activates AF with a half-press of the shutter button.
@@EmilieT the question was whether I will need to disable AF activation by the shutter button on my new OM-1, which is in the mail.

I notice that but didn’t comment as I thought Emilie might be right 😀
