How to permanently set default speaker and mic - Ubuntu 22.04
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- This video teaches you how to set a default speaker and microphone in Ubuntu 22.04.1 running Gnome. Since my system has multiple options for each, the OS would randomly choose one upon login - NOT IDEAL. I show how to select your preferred devices, get their IDs, and set them upon login!
NOTE: After recording this video, I switched my Workstation to running Fedora Workstation 37 and did NOT have to do this. Fedora's implementation is smart enough to be saving my preferred audio devices. Additionally, Davinci Resolve was WAY easier to install and get working with my AMD CPU and GPU.

You're welcome!
thanks
thank you man!
Happy to help!
Good work. But in my case, running the command from "Startup Applications" did not work. I have to run the command from user-wide systemd service unit located in "~/.config/systemd/user". And my command looks like this: "pacmd set-default-sink ".
Edit: add time delay couple seconds to execute the command
Thanks for watching and taking the time to come here and comment with your experience. Hopefully it helps others! Thanks!
Very clear instructions. But for the mic the deafult source remains same even after using commands any idea what is causing this problem?
Did you try the way that hal9000svk did it? See the previous comment... Maybe that method will work for you as well?
That didn’t work but I have fixed it another way after readin an ubuntu forum. I just had to uncomment this line
"load-module module-alsa-source device=hw1:0"
in default.pa file in /etc/pulse path.
Thanks for sharing!! This response was hidden for review by youtube for some reason... even though I check weekly, it was hiding.. it finally showed today and I approved it.
My output device gets set to headphone again and again even while watching a video.I want to set it to speaker. How can I fix it?Moreover,The audio settings pop ups again and again(at least 5 times in a minute)How to solve?
please reply.😢
I didn't run into that so I'm not sure... Since I recorded that video, I got rid of the vanilla Ubuntu Desktop with Gnome and have switched to Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS, which runs KDE. KDE lets you Disable all the extra audio inputs/outputs that you don't use so I didn't even have to do this dumb hack to get my preferred mic/speakers as default anymore.
awesome
Thanks!
Works on mint 21.3
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Why they dont fix it, are they nuts?
my mic says suspended next to it , what do i do?
I haven’t run into that myself, but a quick search found this: askubuntu.com/questions/1064456/ubuntu-18-04-usb-audio-device-suspended … while that is an older article and version, it “may” still prove helpful.
Thanks for the video. Do you have an idea why the image on RUclips is white and only sound can be heard? With Linux Mate I had a picture but no sound, what a fuck ;-)
My guess is that maybe you are missing some media codecs. These are not always included at install time and must be done as an extra step. I’ve never run into what you have described.
@@DimensionQuestthanks for the reply. I find any errors or problems. It's probably because I don't like Linux. Many thanks
Ubuntu LTS - Didnt work =/
24.04? I haven’t tried that on my workstation build yet.
I tried this and it didn't work.
Sorry to hear that.. I wonder what is different on your system from the others here in the comments... It's always hard to tell, hopefully you'll be able to get it figured out.
I hate Ubuntu with a burning passion. Why does something so basic REQUIRE scripting? It is mindboggling
