Dale Earnhardt, jr. was and is one of the most popular athletes in all of not only NASCAR history but also sports history as a whole. With that being said it bears noting that the results he got in many years of his career did not match up to the popularity, especially in the early years of his tenure at Hendrick Motorsports. Today we are going to look back at this odd time and see why Dale Jr. was so bad at NASCAR's best team. This is the oddity of Dale Jr.'s 4 Year Winless Streak.

See not only did Dale Jr help a wounded fanbase recover after losing one of the greatest drivers of all time he also maintained a humble attitude which is why so many people love him still today. And he earned his fight in the pantheon of all-time greats with all of his Xfinity wins, his 2 Xfinity championships, the 2010 Xfinity Daytona race in the #3/ his 26 wins & 2 Daytona 500 victories 10 years apart, reminiscent of my other childhood favorites, the 2014 New England Patriots winning Super Bowl 49 after 10 years of 2nd place finishes, finally winning Tom Brady his #4 & my college basketball favs of UConn Huskies both winning the men & women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament Championships 10 years after they did the same exact thing in 2004. 2014 was such a good sports year seeing so many of my favorites finally get those victories, and it was honestly bittersweet knowing that it was the last year in my life before all these major health issues and struggles in 2015. I hold a lot of sentimentality because of that because sports really helps you forget a lot of the difficult problems that weak people face in life and it’s great to see your heroes provide the spark that help you get through some of those difficult experiences and really make a difference in your life. 2014 was a truly special year. And for Dale Junior, it helped catapult such a huge resurgence not just in 2014 with sweeping Pocono/ Daytona 500/ finally winning that great grandfather clock, winning the race at Martinsville speedway over Jeff Gordon, who spent his entire career, never experiencing a DNF there, and always competing for the win even when he was less than great!

I don't remember if it was when he was still at DEI or right after he went to Hendrick... But I remember an in-car radio of him asking Eury Jr. what was wrong with the car, and if there was anything that could be done, and Eury Jr just said, "Deal with it, we can't do anything with the car until we get back to the shop." The car of Tommorow just never suited Junior's style and he admitted as much on the Dale Jr. Download. He couldn't drive it and he could feel the splitter dragging the car down, and he could never tell Tony Jr. how to adjust the thing. I remember in Walmart many years ago seeing Dale Jr. 88 cars in 1:24 marked down to 5 dollars, and I remember telling my mother, "he isn't winning and the sales are showing it". My favorite Dale Jr moment is, undoubtedly, the 2014 Daytona 500.
At the time I didn't know a NASCAR without Juan Pablo Montoya in it, and I'd spent the previous 7 years cheering for JPM and no-one else, often not even paying attention to what else was going on in the race... and then he left.
That race taught me that cheering for good stories and battles is a lot more fun than cheering for one particular driver, so now, even having a favorite driver in Daniel Suárez, I often find myself cheering for various different drivers during a race.
That was also the first time I stayed up past midnight to catch the finish of a race, after falling asleep during the red flag in 2012.

I do feel bad for Jr having his winless streak but still the guy had opportunities and didn't capitalize that's his and his teams fault can't change that. I will say though it was awesome to see the reaction when it ended

I was at both of Jr’s Pocono wins in 2014, the whole time it was that feeling of wondering when something would happen to ruin it, but thankfully he held on in both.

Geez, Dale Jr and Michigan created some sort of memories.
Shortly before that 2008 win, Jr won the 2006 Busch race in Michigan where he got booed after he tangled with Carl Edwards for the lead.
Jr's 2008 win saw him winning for Hendrick after suffering a brief winless drought during his final days with DEI. But of course, it would kickoff that long winless streak.
Then in 2012, he finally won again in where else but Michigan. But that would be his only win that year and he would suffer just the next season winless yet again.
But of course the "elephant in the room" that is, his 2016 crash.

    1) After 4 years of not winning finally winning again at Michigan!
    2) winning the Daytona 500 in 2014! I was so excited

My Favorite Dale Jr moments were mostly from the Dale Jr. Download. Only because I didn't get to watch NASCAR much as a kid, nor did I seriously pay a lot of attention to NASCAR until covid Era. I was a fan of Bill Elliot (Got quite a few of his cars in McDonald's Happy Meals), Dale Jr (Read his book about his rookie season and losing his dad afterward) and now Chase Elliot. Wish I could say I was a huge fan on NASCAR back then, certainly the COT Era even as bad as I heard the car was, had some amazing moments. I do remember watching the 2001 Daytona 500, what a bummer for the Earnhardts, but a triumph for Micheal Waltrip.

People always wanted to compare Dale Jr to his dad and that was never a fair comparison….I always compared him to Dale Sr’s best friend Neil Bonnett….Somebody who could get it done on Sundays and was pretty good at the broadcasting side…..But Jr’s impact on the sport is always gonna be as someone who has a great eye for talent and helping them into the cup series where they find great success of their own

He himself has admitted that he wasn’t working as hard or as focused as he could have been. That coupled with the issues with Tony Jr because of their attitudes were the biggest factors. If he would have buckled down and hit his mind right he could have had multiple championships.

The amp and national guard paint schemes were top notch. Junior had some good paint schemes with Hendrick. That coke 600 was brutal for Junior. I remember being in the stands, and hearing the disappointment in the fans when he ran out of gas. You could hear it over the cars!
His resurgence was impressive. Jeff Burton and Bill Elliott also had a relatively long winless streaks and then came back to win several races. The fourth car at hendrick curse!

in 2011 he made the chase for the first time in 2 years
in 2012 he finally won again
in 2013 he was winless but was the most consistent he'd ever did
in 2014 he had his best season since 2004 and
in 2015 he got his momentum back at Daytona and Talladega.
