Bit of deep lore here for you - the long shots of her passport are because she was thinking of leaving Japan and moving back home before she got picked up by Hololive. She had some bad experiences in the music scene that made her doubt herself, hence her recurring theme of being a villain in songs like Bully or Six Feet Under. I'm happy to see someone experiencing her catalog fresh, and yeah she doesn't always hit but she herself is always willing to meet her audience halfway.

Cursed Night and End of a Life are Calli at her most vulnerable. Both songs are about her feelings of anxiety and sadness, this is her way of healing from those emotional scars that the haters put on her and to cope with the pressures of success in Hololive.

Calli almost didn't release this one, but I'm glad she decided to in the end because it's probably her most vulnerable track and definitely one of her best. It's a song about feeling hypocritical for looking back fondly on the days she spent struggling in obscurity, despite now having all of her dreams as an artist come true. Very real stuff and much more appealing to me than some of the "fuck my haters" type tracks she's put out recently.
If you haven't heard it yet, I HIGHLY recommend listening to "Crown" - it's a collaboration between herself and Boogey Voxx, a recently disbanded musical duo who acted as close friends and mentors to Calli during her earliest days in the Japanese underground rap scene. While probably not intentional, it acts as a sort of sequel to End of a Life, exploring the flip-side of its themes as a song of triumph and appreciation for her success rather than reservation and self-doubt.

Unalive is a mixed bag for sure.
I think you will probably just have a few in there you'll really like going off what you seem to like in the past.
I'm a fan of Calliope Mori for sure, but I don't really get upset about your takes on her. I do find it funny how much apprehension you seem to have when you listen to her knew stuff lol.
I didn't even get upset by that one Brad guy, though I think he definitely was fishing for reactions on that.
Other peoples opinions on things don't generally affect my opinions if I already like or dislike something.
While we can argue that art/music has some objectivity on what sounds good, it is ultimately heavily subjective.

I think all you have left reaction wise is Zutomayo, Rikka, Suisei, Taku inoue, and Boogey Voxx Collabs. And then the whole Unalive album which is a mix of mid and some hidden gems. Oh and mori singles like cursed night and off with their heads

If the song sounds ass, you might just not be listening to the song, but constantly talking over it, paying it nearly zero attention. Just a thought, though. You do you.

I know you do. I've watched the reaction. Just saying... Disliking a song because of something the artist doesn't fully control, like working with the record label chosen producer/composer, and ignoring the skillful lyrics and delivery is kinda weird.
That being said, Diego/Pretty Patterns is great. I mean... He's not Deco*27, but... Not bad for a Frenchie(Yes. I know. Daft Punk, arguably the best, genre bending, insanely talented music producers of the last few decades, are also French). Not to mention, Karen/Dice/Mori can save even a mediocre background beat.
I may have overreacted, but... It's one of her most private, personal, meaningful songs, on the level of Cursed Night(well... Not quite. That one is soul crushing). She is laying her heart bare and you're getting stuck on the instrumental, disregarding the lyricism and the flow.
I might have a bias due to always having been more focused on the lyrics, having grown up on rap. If you're raised on EDM or jazz(yes, I know, very different ends of the music spectrum), you might have different priorities, but if that'd be the case... Why go so far out of your comfort zone as to listen to an until recently(her huge contract with EMI/Universal) underground/independent American rapper from a Japanese entertainment company(not even solely focused on music production), with a strong Japanese influences throughout her discography?

      Okay first off
Liking a song if the production is bad is not weird at all LMAO
It's not Moris fault at all but that doesn't mean I'll magically think the song sounds better just bc it's not her fault. And I disagree on her saving a mediocre background beat most the time but thats obviously an opinion.
When it comes to emotional songs of course I enjoy the vulnerability, but it's still a song. Wether she likes it or not, ppl are allowed to either like or dislike the lyrics as music is subjective. I understand if someone doesn't care. Me personally, I do care about lyrics as well as delivery bc that's just how my brain works.
Also I find it funny u assume I wasn't raised on rap when it's my most listened to genre 💀 however I appreciate good music regardless of genre (really, I just like music in general)
I also highly disagree on the "why go outside ur comfort zone" question (even if I disagree about it being directed to me cuz I think as a music fan It really wasn't anything ourside the realm of what I've heard before) but in a general sense how else does one find new music if they just listen to what they already know? Why listen to any new music at all if it might disappoint???

Oh I just realized u said I was disregarding lyrics and flow lol. My point still stands bad or messy production can absolutely wreck a song no matter how good the rest is as rough as that take sounds
