Anime is an adaptation from a type of literature with pictures called Manga, similar to very long comics. Since normal cartoons are not adapted from literature or are made from comics the plot rarely carries from episode to another unless enough episodes are reached to allow this reoccurrence.
I definitely love were AMV's are going now a' days. They have really evolved into something so smooth, beautiful, captivating and coherent. AMV's are truly an art form in my eyes.
That's true and the reason for that is that Anime is much more important in Japan than Cartoons are in America (or other parts of the world). Anime are made for children as well as for adults, it has a wide range of audience while Cartoons in the rest of the world are primarily seen as "for children". Anime has a very high share in the market in Japan. :)

Plus more work goes in anime then your regular basic cartoons, it's more detailed.

Western cartoons have a better quality of Animation, while Japanese Cartoons (Anime: This exactly what the word means) have a higher quality of Narrative. Japan has mastered the cheap&cheerful form of animation, they make up for the lack of quality by having such amazing and engaging narrative and character personalities. This is also part of their culture where anime is also for adults. Over here, it's strictly for children.

Yes, that is true, another defining feature is violence, anime is often quite brutal or extreme, where cartoon is low-cut in comparison, though not all anime and cartoon are like that, take Hyouka or The Simpsons, one is an anime with little to no violence, one is a cartoon with little to no plot line yet quite brutal at times.

Because if you had watched enough, you would realize at some point that anime isn't just some preconceived notion, but is something much more than that. Anime, in those people who love it the most's eyes, including my own, is a way of life. There are many people whose entire lives rely on it. There are also people whose lives are so messed up that it's there only scapegoat from the real world. My life isn't messed up in the least, but to me it's a scapegoat from the real world, a world which is so screwed up, that I don't even want to give it a second thought. When ever I hear someone talking badly about anime, the first thing I think of is "How can they think of something like that?" Something I've come to realize is that they don't truly appreciate it for what it really is. It may be just a cartoon to you, but to me, it's a way of life, a whole new WORLD. And yes, there may be a lot of anime shows where they're just meant to entertain people, but there are also many anime shows where they are actually very good, and also have a very deep depth to them. Even in the ones where they are just meant to entertain people, you can also learn many things; life lessons even. So I would really appreciate it if you would not just go dissing anime like that, because I take it very affensively.

Anime is actually a "cartoon" that isn't aimed at children...japanese people have cartoons and anime on different channels. Cartoons are for kids, anime is for everyone else depending on the age rating.
What I mean is in the manner of how it's made, old or modern doesn't factor. Western animation draw out the entire figure in every frame. Say you're drawing Naruto. In Western animation, we would draw his WHOLE figure in a scene, for every frame. In Japanese animation, they would draw him once, set that on top of the background, and then only animate his mouth or arm in the scene. This is what I mean by lesser quality. This is the cheapest/most economical form of animation.
After 5 years I come back to hear and watch this, and I still love it ❤️
