Congrats on your baby girl! And thank you for this traditional recipe! I remember having it several times as a child when family would give birth and my mother made it for me after I had my son. I've always wanted to find a good recipe for this stew. Many happy wishes for your family!
Congrats!! As a kid, I was NOT a fan of this dish, but when my wife gave birth to my beautiful daughter years ago, I found myself wishing my mom was still around to make this dish for us... anyways. I am very happy that you have a loving family and us You Tube Fam to share this with. Wish you all the best.
My mother in law made this for me after I give birth to our son 😊 it was very delicious. I’m mixed Vietnamese, French, Cantonese & Canadian and my husband is Cantonese ☺️ so it is easy for me to understand what he is saying in Cantonese ❤. It was so delicious that I had to ask her for the recipe
Congrats on the new baby, Maya. She is so cute. Cam Cam is now a big brother and is so loving to his little sis. What a wonderful and touching video of this very loving and close family. Definitely one of the best videos!
Congrats!! love this recipy ever since child, when I received neighbour's sharing of this, I was always asking how they make this, nobody can tell me exactly how, thanks daddy Lau, I finaly understaing now.😁
Congratulations! I have almost the same name as Mayalyn's chinese name, except mine has a different character. (欣慧) However, the meaning of 欣 is also happiness. My Cantonese maternal grandmother would call me Yan Wai. :)
Seems like the Chinese understanding of the idea of "it takes a village" is very much respected. Cheers and congrats to you all for the new little one.
@@JustSumGuy That’s really all we can ever do. Make sure our families (found and otherwise) have the support systems they need and return a sense of community through that.
This is an absolutely beautiful video, Lau family! Welcome to the world, baby Maya! The love you all show for her at the end of the video is just so heartwarming. She’s a lucky girl to have such a supportive family who will encourage her to be everything she deserves to be ❤️ What a perfect recipe to pair with this story!
Congratulations and I'm trying to held back my tears. I always wish kids to be born to a loving family who celebrates their birth such as your families. It gives my hearts solace. It makes me feel full. 💕
I love eating the eggs -I poke some holes in it with a fork so the vinegar seeps into the yolk part for an even better tasting egg!🤤 I also like to add the vinegar to my rice as a sauce! 😋 I'll skip the pork knuckles though as I don't like the fatty texture.
Me too, I used to skip the knuckles, taste too much like skin fat. But after discovering that there are actually more collagen than fats in them, I m willing to eat them now to retain🧏 youthful firm skin 😅
I remember eating this after the birth of my daughters. A Grand Aunt lovingly made it for me. I loved it. I do eat pigs feet made in other dishes and just love it!
Congratulations!!! She's so adorable...makes me miss my own now that they've grown up. My grandma made this and the chicken wine soup after I gave birth to my kids. I'm so glad to find these recipes online, especially with the videos.
💜💜💜 Welcome Mayalyn! Her 1st official MWL appearance. I love this stew after having my son almost 31 yrs ago. Now I can't wait for others to have babies so I can have some 😂 Congratulations to the Lau family. Hope to see more of Mui Mui and Hong Doy in future episodes 😍
My little one is 10 weeks old and my mum made this dish for me 4 months in advance. Before that, i remember it from when my brother was born 30 years ago. So much nostalgia. Congrats on the new addition, she's beautiful ❤
Congratulations! It is very interesting to see another cultures postpartum recovery recipe. For S. Koreans we part take in Sea weed soup! I had a question, my last name reads as yoo(liu) but the written chinese character is the same as yours familys(lau) I am very interested in the symoblic nature of our shared last name and if your father had any insight or shared wisdom in the heritage of Lau(劉)
Hello to the Lau family, a new subscriber here in the UK. This video brings back memories of my daughter's birth 17 yrs ago. My mother made this stew and honestly I did not like it much! I liked the eggs but not the knuckle and I just found the stew overpowering. My mother also made ginger fried rice which was more palatable. I love your dad's cooking and explanations in Cantonese, makes me miss Hong Kong alot (where my parents are from before immigrating to the UK). Congratulations on the baby, I wish her the best of health.
Congratulations!!! Mayalyn is adorable. I tried learning this recipe almost 4 years ago from my mom for my daughter in-law. Your dad's video is a great review. My sister and I found a jar of the vinegar mixture when we clearing the house after her passing. My aunt told us that this mixture keeps for a long time. We plan to make this recipe soon because it's so tasty.
Congratulations to the Lau Family on the arrival of Wai Yi! She is absolutely adorable. Its wonderful to see how the family grows! Yeh Yeh and Mah Mah must be so happy! And Hong Doy is now promoted to Ko Ko. Me, my sis and cousins share the same middle name as Wai Yi! Happy to know that "Wai" means intelligent, wise, virtuous and gentle.
Aww the memories rush back! I'm so happy for you all! Mayalyn is blessed to have such a loving family! Congratulations to you all! Will wait for new channel 'Made with Maya'!
My baby is due soon and my mom is making this for me! I showed her your channel a while back. She had trouble describing the traditional postpartum meal she wanted to cook, but found this video and was like “This one!” Thanks for preserving our culture for those of us who aren’t as fluent in Canto! 💕
At first I was worried this would be another video shot vertically. Please, never do that again. I had to skip the previous one for that reason. I'm so glad that this one is more normal.
YES! Hakkas and Teochews have have similar dish called 猪脚醋 [Zhu1 Jiao2 Cu4] as post-pregnancy [confinement] food! Also your daughter's mandarin name [慧 hui4 怡yi2] is a really pretty name!
Your baby girl is so beautiful. Your precious little boy is so patient with all of the attention showered on his baby sister. He has always been a beautiful child. He was so cute when I saw him bending over to give his baby sister a kiss. Both are beautiful little children. Your whole family is lovely. Many blessings to you😊
I am a chef-- I just want to tell you all that Daddy Lau is the most amazing Chinese Chef and his dishes are so wonderful. I am so lucky to have found you! The directions are amazing.
What a coincidence! My mom is cooking ginger vinegar stew too in the early morning! The fragrance of the vinegar filled the whole house haha, guess the dish is in our Cantonese’s blood! Love from Malaysia!
My kids favourite dish. I use palm sugar and village ginger (extra spicy). Taste better overnight. Late mom used to say "One can smell 3 roads away". Congratulations to u and family.
She and I have the same Chinese name 😛I ate so much of this after pregnancy. Also black chicken soup and pork, papaya, and peanut soups for breastmilk production

Thank you soo much! I am expecting in September and may need to get my hubby to make it for me. Do you have a recipe other postpartum care? Like chicken soup you were drinking at 2:22 mark?
the ones used in chinese celebrations? it's just whole boiled eggs(with their shells on - please don't shell them! 😂) coloured by dipping them in a wash of water and food colouring
Congrats to your family! 🥳She is such a sweet angel 👼Besides thanks for your dad demonstrating this recipe. This is a dish I like it a lot since I was small. Thanks for bringing up this recipe 💜🙏
Thank you for this recipe! This is probably where Filipino adobo is based from since there were Chinese that moved to Philippines hundreds of years ago.
Congratulations on the arrival of your darling daughter! I am so proud for you both, and look forward to watching your little angel grow up and become a wonderful young lady. Best wishes! Be sure to cherish every moment that you have with your new lovely little baby girl. 恭喜
Congratulations on your new baby! I love watching your videos not only for the recipes but also for the beauty of you preserving your history. Thank you for sharing it with us on RUclips. If I might ask a question about the recipe; can you use any other meat such as beef knuckles or ox tail to make this dish? I am allergic to pork but would love to make this if there are other options. Thanks again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it literally a Chinese proverb?
Ok did some research, turns out it's allegedly 'of African origin' so....
The more you know.
I wish it was a saying better understood and practiced in American culture.
@@vvvye agreed the best we can do is live by example. Let's bring the importance of family back to good ol USA one person and family at a time.
