Your aunt lived with Sue at Kavik or at her real home which is just outside Fairbanks? Sue only lives at Kavik a couple of months in the summer catering to the tourists running a B&B, but they never show that aspect of Kavik on Life Below Zero because it would destroy their carefully crafted image of survivor Sue living off the land in the wild 24/7. The Kavik camp is non-operational 9 months of the year. On the show, they claim Kavik is a functioning year-round refueling station for small aircraft which is total bullshit, its actually a frozen abandoned wasteland most of the year! The film crew flys Sue into Kavik in the winter to film the scenes for the show but she doesn't actually live there, her real home is in Fairbanks.

Joe, I hunt in the fall, often solo. I was bow hunting for elk in 2012 in north central Idaho, north of Elk City, which is an old gold mining town. I had known that there were a lot of wolves in the area, and they had definitely impacted the elk hunting, negatively. As my week progressed, I saw a lot of wolf sign basically everywhere. From tracks to scat, hair and hearing howls in the evening. On the third day, I was planning on walking an overgrown gated skid road. I was riding my ATV and had just pulled up to the gate and parked. As I was dismounting, I looked behind me and there was a wolf, black, medium sized, juvenile looking at me from less than 50 feet! When we locked eyes, the wolf disappeared in a flash. Two nights later, around 0230 in the morning, I was startled awake by a wolf howl, very close and very loud! As I sat up in my cot, another wolf joined in, then another, and another, and at least two more joined in. They were probably around 100-150 feet away and were very, very loud! So loud that I estimated that if someone had been with me there in my tent, we wouldn't have been able to hear each other talk. I grabbed my glock 20 10mm and as soon as I opened the tent and got out, they stopped! So, obviously, they were looking at my camp and obviously they were trying to tell me something.
Dorrell: No shit though!!! But if she was handed meatless bacon, she'd probably pull out that 5" bear claw sloce his throat, take a shit on him and throw him in the incinerator.

Sue is an inspiration for life. I’m in LA and watching her makes me want to live life to the fullest
If there were an award for the most self-actualized person on earth she'd win it...... Buddhist monks aren't this in tune with reality. Mr. Rogan, you need to get her back on the podcast if you can.
theBarzeen - I was about to type this is the most well adjusted, down to earth lady I've ever seen when I read your comment. I bet her bullshit meter has never pegged 2.
My thoughts
She passed on to the next life
To find new challenges
En P what do you mean by this? She died?
Hassam Cordova she did not pass away.
This is the most underrated episode of jre EVER.
exactly what i was about to post!
My aunt went up there and lived with her for a few months... Said she loved it
Your aunt lived with Sue at Kavik or at her real home which is just outside Fairbanks?
She's great
@@prophetmargin7497 You have a source for that?

I lived in Alaska for over 30 years... 20 of those years my nearest neighbor was 6 miles away... I can relate to what she is saying... There is so much to do... I miss it so much ... I have a

She leads a life so so different from anything I could relate to or want to do, but Sue is so fascinating everyone can relate to her ! Bravo ❤
I love Sue!! Why is this episode just now showing up on my recommendations???!! This woman is SO FKNG AWESOME!!! I love her!❤

I love Sue man! I could set and talk with her for days! She’s one of the most fascinating people I’ve ever watched and/or witnessed in my entire life!! And let’s not get it twisted she’s without a doubt one of the most badass women that have walked the face of the earth!! Keep the content and the knowledge coming sue!!! 👍
Sue is Compelling, Fearless, Funny and the Epitome of Walking the Talk...
Fantastic Interview Joe...

Exercise, move, walk, walk further the next day, get in a garden, make a garden, grow stuff....ride a bike, get some weights and lift them, find some good books and read them, autobiographies about interesting people, swim, run, jog, climb something make it a challenge...eat as healthy as you can, you must....but you must move, and you will get mentally stronger and obviously fitter and then you will know yourself, I guarantee it👍👍
@David Schmidt
Hows it going?
We Love Sue💕💕! She’s funny and gutsy. Her critics need to spend a month there alone. Sue’s clips are always fun.
We’re sorry Glen won’t be on. I understand where he was going w his more philosophical approach, but that’s over some people’s heads. Will miss you !!
💕💕
The part around 51min where she talks about how the animals and plants know what weather is incoming is amazing...
this woman is awesome, I thought she's was gonna be like some back woods hillbilly. She's actually really smart. She knows more about big cities than people who live in them
It's scripted....keep fighting idiots.
What an AMAZING human being! I'm definitely on Team Aikens during the zombie apocalypse!
I've been a fan of Sue for many years. She is so funny with her one liners. She is so bad ass.
Best thing about Joe is he lets people talk without interruptions, and lets the show go where it may without a lot of prepared questions.
Joe, this is one of your best shows I have ever seen, what a great lady
I'm so glad I found this! I love life below zero and hearing more of Sue's story is so awesome

This is one of the most grounded person ever, good show Joe can't wait to watch life below"0"
This was one of the most riveting conversations that I have ever listened to.
Who else found this after watching the fantastic Glenn Villeneuve episode on JRE?
Everyone found it through the glenn interview

Crystal Meehan no
king hippo I didn’t know joe interviewed her until I watched the Glenn one, but I knew about both of them for a few years before they even made the Glenn one
You can't let fear rule your life! I've been robbed at gunpoint in the grooming shop where I worked in Houston in 1985. 45 magnum pistol upside my head. I survived a horrific housefire in 2000. I got a Careflight in Oct 18 broken to bits. I hit the ground with the force of a ton off my Arab mare who slipped in our gravel driveway. Collapsed lung, broken back in 2 places, broken ribs both sides, a/c separation, head injury all at age 56. I'm 62 now and still kicking running my organice farm here in NE Texas while taking care of my husband who is dying with ALS. Strong women kick ass and take names!!
Deb Stover good for you. My husband had ALS for 7 years. Best to both of you. That’s a tough one.
@@valley5617 oh man, 7 years is a lonnnnnng time enduring ALS. I sent the man I love more than anyone in the world, my husband Brent Villarreal, peacefully to the other side April 30. Tue he wss "fine"...our fine in ALS world. Wed. He barely knew I was there. Thursday we ended the ALS journey we started together hand in hand, hearts beating together when we turned his ventilator and all the other machines off. He didnt struggle to breathe at all. I talked him through it and he peacefully transitioned into the Spirit world. It was amazing and the best part of this horrific nightmare NO ONE should ever have to endure. July 21, 2016 was dx with Bulbar ALS. His started at end stage with breathing choking, aspirating, turning blue in front of me. 3 years, 9 months and 9 days.
Deb Stover oh my! My thumbs up was in support, sister. One can hardly “like” ALS. So sorry for your loss. These people who are terrified of COVID19 are driving me crazy. Those of us who have dealt with it daily don’t hide behind masks and gloves. My husband actually died of a cold when a caregiver came to work sick. When I got home and saw her sniffling I was livid. She said she felt good enough and knew I needed to go to work. (Baloney - my boss was used to me calling in with emergencies.) I told her that kind of thinking could risk his life told her not to come back. Turns out I was right. I had kept him alive and healthy for 7 years and someone’s thoughtlessness killed him.
@@valley5617 same with my thumbs up to you. I took care of my hub by myself from day one until he left our home via ambulance for the last time to go live in skilled nursing home when I had to fight the frigging for profit health system to make sure he got what he needed when he needed it. This is one fucked up health system, which Im sure you know. I chronicled everything via our go fund me because no one would believe the hell we had to go through on top of ALS. If you would like to read it, pm me please. My plan is to make changes that actually help familes living in long term traumatic catastrophic diseases. I want a St Judes for ALS and ALZ victims/families where everythi g is taken care of financially for the duration. The stress of losing everything, becoming homeless with no way to live on top of ALS is terrifying.
Sue is one of the toughest SOB's I've ever heard talkin to Rogan. We have been watching her show for years and now I want to get my husband a trip to Kavic to hunt caribou
I get freaked out when a spider is in my apartment. I admire her. Sue is my fave.
Loved this interview. Wish Sue would write a book chronicling her times on the tundra.
I was a survival specialist in the military, but there are probably a lot of things Sue could teach me.
lol survival specialist hahaha no such thing in the army
Maybe help you find your dice!😢
Sue, you had me at "lighthouse keeper."
Thank you, you understand me, I appreciate you!

I always thought she was crazy, but now know she is smart and clued-up, plus a badass person. Great interview Brother.
Doug Wheeler I agree with you 100%. I always thought that she was a little flaky. Boy was I wrong.
Hope he gets her back on in the future Sue is a badass.
Bad ass woman. Very few like her. Respect!!
Recently purchased all seasons of Life Below Zero and Sue's parts are the only ones I'm interested in. She's extremely smart, funny, personable, brutally honest and probably the most reasonable person I've ever seen speak.
She is a complete embodiment of the can do attitude and be happy/proud of who you are. Definitely one of my heroes in life.
Hi Sue, Thank you for allowing me into your world thru your show segments at Nat Geo. I really enjoy your philosophical words, your sayings. They hold so much basic and sane truth! Stay safe, stay warm, stay close to your fabulous sense of humor. That's what helps me too with my life and my work too (I'm an art teacher). Merry Christmas! Lynsey
What an awesome person. This is my new current favorite JRE.
Too bad this interview isn’t 3 hours long like Glenn’s :(
Barbara Von Traumer Glen was the best character the show had. It’s too bad he’s not on it anymore
@@jonsmith7659 : He was fun to watch but my favorite is the dog sled dude, Jesse. I like his story and I like how he went about becoming the person he is. The Hailstones are great and I cant think of the name of that other couple, the older one, white guy and native wife, they are such a great team.
I rewatched sue again after Glenn was on. I want them together. Curious how they would interact?
Glenn is just a lot more interesting.
Subscribe if Joe Rogan does DMT this bitch is annoying
This is by far one of my favorite interviews! Good job, Sue! Stay real
I always enjoy watching life below zero, however this interview has been very informative and personal.thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
This lady is simply amazing. I'm going to have to start watching the show - hopefully I can find it streaming somewhere
Yes you can
It's on Hulu with the live add-ons subscription, or on the National Geographic portion of Disney+
badass bitch. alpha female.superior humanbeing. she knows handling human life!
Its so cool that the most bad ass person on this podcast to this date still is Miss Sue. October 2019.
Damn Right, what an amazing human being, so glad I found out the name of the amazing program I watched a few year's ago that I couldn't remember. My dream to live that life, no fone, Internet, blah, blah, just reality. Go Sue!

Mad respect for this human animal.
Sue and Glen need their own show!!!! I cant believe this was only 2 hours. Could've listened for days
This woman is the true definition of a real soul
She is Ron Swanson in real life
Dorrell: No shit though!!! But if she was handed meatless bacon, she'd probably pull out that 5" bear claw sloce his throat, take a shit on him and throw him in the incinerator.
SO TRUE
Ron Swanson IS real life Ron Swanson.

She is Ronna Swanson
The real questions is, did Joe ever make it up to Kavik for a hunt?
She's the best character on the show. Talk about an awesome person.
@Randy Smith i don't get it
