Sadly, there are still people who think we do it because we’re insecure or because we want to please men. Today I’m showing you how to do my go-to ultra glam makeup look! I don't think people realize how genuinely therapeutic makeup can be, for a lot of people doing their makeup is something they look forward to, at least I do. And even if someone wears makeup because they're insecure... so what?? If makeup helps someone feel confident then where's the problem. I'm glad she made a video like, it's okay to let people enjoy things, especially makeup!!!

For me, applying makeup is therapy. If I'm feeling anxious, makeup is the perfect outlet to keep my mind and hands busy. If I'm feeling depressed, makeup helps me visually improve my natural beauty which in turn boosts my confidence. Finished product + feeling fabulous = bonus!
Also, I tried to use your filter on the MakeupPlus app and it didn't fit my eyes, so sadly, I can't use it. :( But I LOVE the concept!

So true. People always tell me they don't know how I have time for makeup. It's not like it takes up that much of your day, and it's very relaxing and fun so I make time for it. It's the highlight of my day (literally haha).

literally just yesterday my Forensics professor said in class, "ladies stop wearing so much makeup to try and impress us, we don't care about makeup we love your true beauty" me being one of the two girls that usually does wear makeup starts laughing my ass off and say "we don't wear makeup for you guys we wear makeup for ourselves" and the girl next to me so sweet says "guys always have to think its all about them"

skittlesthegummybear I think it just means you will tell her, "Hey lets go to the pool" and of course the boy will be thinking "hehehe now I can see what she looks like without makeup" because the joke is they want to see how different she looks. I'm not saying it's a nice mentality, just explaining! I think everyone is beautiful with and without makeup and someone who really cares about you won't care!
This made me cry. The kids from my class basically shamed me 2 days ago for wearing nude/rosie lipstick, smokey eye (brow/nude shades) and foundation and concealer. They called me a hoe and said that I just want attention. I love you queen, you've helped me so much, you don't even know!
It drives me mental the comments I used to get "you're only wearing make up to impress guys" or "you look cakey, I like the natural look better." Sometimes I do my make up and never leave my house, or change out of my pyjamas. It's just something I'm passionate about! Cheers for standing up against the make up shamers once again Nikki. I am 15. I went to school the other day and someone stoped me in the hall and kid you not he said "damn that's a lot of f*cking makeup, tone it down next time." I felt so self conscious I went strait into the bathroom and wiped a some off. I hate that someone got to me like that and I can tell you it isn't going to happen again. Thank you Nikkie for giving me the confidence I have today.

hey you're young and at this point it is totally okay to feel insecure, don't beat yourself up about it. unfortunately, hs just comes with those kinds of feelings. you just have to remind yourself that in the future you will be able to be self confident and secure in your self image! And maybe next time u can say to him "what's it to ya" lmao. being body confident is a part of growing up and loving yourself and sometimes becoming more feminist in the process, and I have no doubt you'll get there one day. that boy seems like the type where he doesn't realize it's okay for girls to own their bodies and their sexualities and flaunt them! word of warning tho, maybe ppl look back at hs makeup and regret how they were doing it back then, so be careful!
It's refreshing to see someone learning to shake it off. I'm 50 years old, and I've spent my whole life being "shamed" by people for not being what they expect or require. And you will too. Everyone here will.
"Shaming" is how people control you, and nothing gives some types more pleasure than seeing that they actually had an affect on you. Reacting *in any way* (other than laughter) to their provocations hands them the control they crave, because then they know they got to you; even "middle finger" messages like Nikki's (bless her for her spirit) prove their power.
Until people learn the fine art of not giving a damn, and treating a-holes like they don't exist, they will be targets. It's no fun to take shots at someone who cares so little about your opinion that they don't even react to it. Men and women alike use this tactic, but the worst ones are the men who try to bind you to them with their disapproval -- it's twisted, and sickeningly effective, especially against girls who want nothing more than to be liked. Boys your age are just beginning to experiment with this "power," and by the time they're in their 20's, they're drunk with it. Do *not* allow yourself to be herded down that path any further.
The judgment never goes away, it just shifts to new subjects and different standards. Kudos to you for attempting to find your backbone -- many never get that far.

I have been makeup shamed before. I came into school one day wearing a full face of makeup. And a girl next to me told one of my friends that I wear too much makeup and that I looked terrible and that the reason I was single is because I wear all that makeup. That friend told me what she said and now everyday I wear a full face complete with all the glam I want. Just to show her that makeup shaming me is not going to break me down. I watch other people putting make up on. It is like therapy for me. I used to watch my mother when I was a little kid. She no longer is in this world but if not for make up artists on youtube, there would be nothing to bring me that feeling of calm and security. Sounds weird I know, but I just love watching.
I've been makeup shamed. Not because I wanna glow for the gods, but because I do a more natural makeup routine and my "friends" shame me for not having a beat face every day. 😔 They make me feel like I don't know anything about makeup.

as an OCD sufferer, the act of putting on makeup is actually therapeutic to me. Carefully following the steps (primer, foundation, concealer, etc) helps with my anxiety. Love your vids! Die, Makeup shaming!
Hi Nikkie! I'm 14 and I've been wearing makeup for a bit and I love but I deal ashamed and scared to wear the bright shade of lipstick and winged eyeliner but in the past year I found you here on youtube and I am starting to wear that sharp eyeliner and bright lipsticks tho I'm still sticking to natural colors most of the time I just wanna say you have helped me come out of my shell not only makeup wise but in general I found that be for I was shy and very quite but now I'm not afraid to talk load and be bold!!! I'm a dairy farmers wife in the middle of no where and I do full glam all of the time and other times I don't wear a stitch of makeup...I'm not even looking to impress my husband when I wear makeup because he loves me no matter what my face looks like! My parents makeup shame me and the teachers at our school makeup shame every girl that wears makeup, including me. There is now a rule at school telling us how much makeup we are aloud which I hate. We wear a uniform so makeup is our way of expressing ourselves but we can't even do that

Thank you so much for this video! I just graduated from college in December and a lot of people are asking me what's next? When I tell them I'm going to be a beauty blogger they look at me crazy ( trying not to cry) . It's really discouraging b/c this is a profession where people can express themselves and be creative. So when people look at me crazy and say , " you live in Birmingham, Al that's impossible ", or "you don't have the money or equipment that will never happen ", I just pray and post my pictures every day on social media b/c I have a goal to accomplish. I can't believe this is a real thing. There's human trafficking and people starving all over the world and people are worried about who wears make up and how much they wear, how embarrassing. People wearing too much make up is not a problem and will never be and people that complain about people wearing too much make up I need to open their eyes to real problems.

so, this really made me feel better,
I was bullied and gossiped about, at my school and other things I did like choir, I was beat on and hated ONLY because I did makeup and how I dressed. the other day I told some people that I wanted to be a makeup pro (which I really do) and they were all like "oh, that's nice..." looked away in pity and shame. but, now I've realized that I shouldn't give a crap about what people think about makeup, or fashion, or even the way I just am, I'm not good at drawing or art, or writing or a lot of other stuff, but I have found my voice in makeup, especially with the help of Nikkie's video's, thank you SO much.
I sometimes wake up at 3:00 o'clock and i do a full face just to take it off a few minutes later and go back to bed
But I'm also makeup shamed by a lot of my guy friends and my dad (my brother loves it though)
+Fangirlfrantic explain them that it's art and fun to you, don't expect them to understand that, but they might accept if you explain it in a way nikkie does 🙂

Everyone is saying that makeup shaming isn't a thing well I guess body shaming isn't a thing either. Neither is racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc because those are all are forms of "shaming" someone for who they are or what they look like.

im 13 and i REALLY enjoy doing my makeup, and what i do ranges from body painting to everyday makeup. Doing my makeup or any body art actually is extremely calming to me, it relieves my stress. I dont care what anyone else thinks about me "wearing too much for my age", i find joy in doing it and thats all that matters 💕

I love wearing make up. I am insecure but not about my looks but of my weight and my intelligence. I honestly find the process of putting on my makeup to be relaxing and therapeutic. It honestly helps me relax.
Along with the regular makeup shaming, I've noticed that people are getting more and more snotty with how people are using products. For instance, using eyeshadows only on the eyes and blush only on the cheeks, and doing it one specific way. I don't see what the big deal is. If I want to use my liquid lip for eyeliner, or put some powdered highlighter on my lips for a little glow, I should be able to do that without and shame. C'mon people lol
I have a friend who gets mad at me for using brushes for other things than they where intended for, like hello I haven't got the money to splash out on a million brushes right now let me use my brushes to whatever part of my face that i want? Makeup is FUN, let it stay that way.

Thank you so much for making this video. From the November to earlier this month I've been so so stressed because I'm a senior in high school with a definite university in mind and I just wanted to get in. Since then I've been doing my makeup several times a week and for the first time in a long time I felt empowered, like I had control over my life. It was such a great therapeutic way for me to deal with my stress. A couple of days ago, I just found out I got into my school of choice, UCSD. This whole journey asserted for me that makeup is NOT for other people, NOT to "trick" anyone, but it empowers us, both men and women. Thanks again and everything you stand for❤️

I happen to be of the opinion that some people do take it too far. _However_, I am aware that this opinion is based on my own personal preference, and I've got no business trying to impose it on other people. What works for me won't necessarily work for other people. And that's okay. There's nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion! But there is absolutely no need to bash someone for what they choose to put on their face. This need that people have nowadays to put people on blast publicly and spread hate is disgusting. Why do people need to bring other people down? Keep your judgements to yourself and go on about your day. Find some other way to contribute to society, because shaming someone for how they choose to express themselves is not it. Because at the end of the day, how much or how little makeup someone decides to put on _their_ face is not harming anyone.

I hate when people say girls only wear makeup so guys will notice us. No! My crush never even notices when I wear makeup because I’ve just always worn makeup around him. He’s only commented on how he likes how I do my eyes when it’s more dramatic and such, but I do my makeup for me and me alone! Best thing though, having another girl compliment you on your makeup, that’s the best feeling. Especially when their own makeup is flawless. The shaming has to stop...even a year after this video, it’s maybe gotten worse. I hate when people say we wear makeup so we can be something we’re not or to hide our flaws.

I don't understand why ppl get so upset over the products that are used in a tutorial. There a million dupe videos and drugstore recommendations to use instead of the high end products. You don't have to use the exact item to achieve a similar look. And besides.. this is her job ya know!! She is supposed to use all kinds of products, she has access to all kinds of stuff. If you did I'm sure you would be smothering your face in those luxury powders and foundations and everything too. I know I would!

I don't think people want the over done make up to stop because they feel like the girl is trying to impress a boy or whatnot but it's because it's not real life for most people. Most people can't in real life wear this. I am not make up shaming here, I wear a ton of make up, these women are beautiful and have some major make up skills but I think people do need to see the other side. It makes normal moms and everyday people feel like they aren't doing enough. Most shaming comes from someone's insecurity.

At my high school, I started wearing makeup this year for my senior year. I honestly enjoy it. I don't wear makeup bc I want attention or bc I want boys to notice me, or bc I'm insecure. I love the transformation honestly. I think I look beautiful with and without makeup. People at my school and people I thought were my "friends" talk shit about me and call me a "hoe" because I wear makeup. I honestly don't even let it get to me. I let them think what they want to.
