I always thought, since he seemed oddly in touch with whatever was being said about Hammerstein that maybe he pretended to be Hammerstein and lure her there under false pretenses... having never read or seen the show. made sense in my mind. and I don't think Meg was in love with the phantom, just wanted that same inspiration ala phantom of the opera Christine with angel of music

Tristen_Singer I agree. I love it too. IMO the music is better in LND and the story is better in POTO

Really great review ! I am a big fan of Love Never Dies and was surprised to see so much hate and bad reviews about it. I have to say I prefer by far the Australian Production and I am so happy Anna O'Byrne is to be playing Christine for the London Phantom of the Opera. London production does'nt seem to have the same magic and well, Ben Lewis is a much greater Phantom than Ramin at my opinion. Thank you for this video !

I'm so glad they cut out the prologue and Heaven By The Sea altogether for the London rewrite and the Australian production, even though it was still crap (except for Ramin!) Never actually thought the Ten Long Years had the same tune but in a different key though, much better improvement! I swear Love never Dies has had SO much changes, look at the Denmark version coming out and honestly, I'm sticking with the Australian version because it's much better than the London one!

The London Cast was a lot better. I saw it 4 Times! But overall I think the 'Australian Production' was a lot better! The main Prob I have is that they tried 2 make the Phantom 2 Nice & Raoul, Meg & Madam Giry 2 bad! People do change but they should have had more of a balance! At the end of the day the Phantom is meant 2 have a screw loose! Also it would have given the Show more dramatic conflict!x

Phantom lives and dies with it's lead casting. If there's no chemistry between the actors, it turns overtly dumb instantly. The 25th anniversary is the shining example of this dynamic.
Christine loves Erik because she has daddy issues and because they both share a passion for voice. Erik learns to love her back when he let's her go, he has an epiphany when he's shown real love. It shows maturity through self-sacrifice.
Love never Dies nullifies the resolution to Phantom which is why it is a bad sequel amongst other issues.

I agree, The Phantom of the Opera Musical doesn't need a sequel! But if it's done well, why not! And, I, too, totally buy into the romance between Christine and Erik in the 25th anniversary. Ramin and Sierra clearly played it that way for me, especially towards the end around the time of their split. I cry every time ...

The "Love Should Die" campaign has to have been the most bizarre, inane, whacked-out bunch of silly, nonsensical crybaby tripe I have EVER seen mounted against somebody else's work. Whether the show was "meh" or not (and in my opinion, it is), the fact that so many butthurt fangirls (and fanbois) would put that much energy and time into slagging a musical just because their whiny little arses were sore is utterly unbelievable. Even if the musical had been awesome, it still wouldn't have been enough for them - mainly, I suspect, because so much crappy, tedious, amateurish fan-fiction (and some professional fanfiction too) is now officially irrelevant. Cue the little violins.

You know I think one of the small issues that really drags the show for many people is how christine sends a U Up text to phantom right before her wedding and had she not done that then phantom wouldnt have cared and megan wouldnt have shot christine and Gustav wouldnt have been ever born.
You know it's the small issues that really bother people.

A good book based on 'The Phantom of the Opera' is called 'Phantom' I can't remember who wrote it! A Woman! I think it would have been interesting 2 have included 'Learn 2 b Lonely' from the end credits from the 'Phantom Movie!' I would have started LND the very second after 'Phantom' ended! With the Phantom making his way down under the opera house & singing 'Till I hear U Sing Again' with out his Mask!x

Oh yes! The Heart is Slow to Learn was the original when the sequel was more closely based on “Phantom of Manhattan.” This all fell apart in the early 2000’s. He gave up and reorchestrated the song for “The Beautiful Game.” The song was removed in the show’s revision, “The Boys in the Photograph.” At that point, he was back to figuring out the Phantom sequel.
Common criticism is that it sounds very similar tho the score from a Billy Wilder film, “The Apartment.” I would not be shocked if this was an inspiration as he finished fully with “Sunset” in 95 and the “Heart is Slow to Learn” premiered in 98 or 99

  • @jaybonn5973
    @jaybonn5973 3 года назад

Ohantom can have a sequel. It's just cannot be about Christine and Phantom because any attempt at putting them back together romantically makes the ending of Phantom weak. If they're together now that first climax meant nothing.

Good review, I thought the book plot was great..except for the weird God of money thing & the Gone With The Wind style Musical that repeats the Don Juan sequence from TPOTO...it would have really worked and had some mystery going in...the Phantom was quite tame in both productions, i figured 10 years of seething & planning to get back Christine would have made him completely nuts, especially since he kills a few folks in the book.

I mean… because it’s a terrible show. It completely destroys the ending of Phantom and changes the characters altogether. Christine did not love the phantom or want sex with him. Raoul is not an abusive drunk. Giry never hated Christine (treated her like another daughter and literally helped Raoul to save her) and was afraid of the Phantom but respected him. The phantom accepted Christine did not love him and kissed him only to save Raoul. ALW clearly doesn’t understand the brilliance of the original and has held butthurt “Sarah should have never left meeeee” energy for waaay too long

It still means so much to me that you appreciate the musical :) A lot of people hate it and as much as I respect that, it still makes me feel sad that all of the people only see is a bad fanfiction😞 As a LND lover, I'm gonna help you understand it more by saying: Erik and Christine got together off camera, so after he let's her go, a few days later she goes back to him because she regretted her choice to be with Raoul. And that night was the night before her wedding. I think it makes sense because when Christine was in the pressure of choosing between Erik and Raoul, she didn't have much time to really process her feelings so of course she chose Raoul.. It was the safe choice. But after she was removed of the pressure, she actually realised that she had feelings for Erik and that she wanted to be with him. I hope this helps 😊

Now could you do a story where Christine runs into Erik and Erik is no longer interested in christine because hes traumatized by the pain he put her through and the compassion she still has for him, yes. Could christine understand and still care for Erik just not romantically, yes because Chrstine has an immense well of empathy and love.

I think that having these numbers heaven by the sea, and the other numbers that remind you where you are, and that your in NYC in and around Coney island should have been kept in the later productions, and i like the balloon idea better for bathing beauties than whats in the show now, plus you get more information in Heaven by the sea about what Meg and her mother are doing and its a much better way to introduce them to the audience, the new plots are all choppy and really don't make much sense, especially Phantom threatening to kill or take her child away.
