Well done again on the 3:02 PB. In the video at 24:22 you said your head was down, people passing and you were struggling! Having run four sub 3 marathons all my faster times came of negative splits, I found it spurred me on passing people who had gone off too fast, rather than been the person getting passed! Looking at your splits on Strava the first six miles were fast. I known you wanted to stay with the pacer but they don't always get the first few miles right, also you tent to get a concertina effect where the pace can change a good bit over a short distance. Your always betted clock watching yourself and staying away from the pacers at the start. Great effort and I'm sure you will go sub 3 soon enough.
The pacer was indeed running fast and also not easy to gauge pace with GPS in city centre. Will have to think of strategy for Berlin. Have tried negative splits before, but still fatigue in last few miles and then have too much time to make up. With a full training block, hopefully I won’t fatigue next time?
Gotta be the toughest job going the 3hr pacer. You pace at 2:55 and that’ll cripple loads. You pace for bang on, with a negative and a couples of sharp hills leaves 6:30 pace for the last 3-5 miles which would destroy most who are at that sort of level.
@@paulk7663 totally agree Paul. Super tough job. I’ve officially paced at other races shorter distances and often have people shout too fast or too slow. When I paced 45 minute 10k finished in a time of 45:00 🎉

@@PoetWithPace i think it was my mate...anyway...I did Manchester also. been running marathons now and then for over 35 years. was my 60th on Saturday before the race Sunday. I did 4:03. my first was 4:01 in around 1996 and pb in London 2008, 3:57. did 4:03 in 2003, had hip replaced in 2017, did London 2019 = 4:15, Manchester 2021 = 4:12, should have done it last year but put my back out on the Friday before the race. So my conclusion is...my times have not varied by too much over the years. I now bow out gracefully with a respectable time. As you mentioned in one of your recent videos... it takes so much out of your body and time. will keep doing possibly half marathons, 10Milers, 10K's etc and even trail races but that WAS my last marathon. I also had the fantastic experience of running with my oldest son who paced me through the race. Was a jog for him as he does 2:36 for the marathon. Father and Son running together. Keep the videos going...great to watch and you are fantastically positive!

@@timonscheven2271enjoy! It is a fabulous event 🏆
If the pacer was Jason Rippingale he is one of my mates....top pacer and does them all the way round the world. Got him into running years ago. Well done on the PB and watch your channel.
Thank you Rob for your kind comment and appreciate your support. No idea the names of the three 3 hour pacers, but they were all great! Have you got any races coming up soon?
Jason Rippingale was one of the 3hr pacers. His group was ahead of the one I was in. I was a bit further back with another 3hr pacer....great guy called Ste Curley who runs for Chorlton Runners.
Entries still open for the flat Boston Lincs on the 28th if you fancy a quick sub 3 turnaround ;)
I like your optimism! I have a month full of events already so will be aiming for Berlin in September. You got any races coming up?
@@PoetWithPace Boston myself. Aiming for sub 3.10 GFA 50.
@@ulshark awesome good luck!
Congratulations! Amazing effort and TRUE GRIT💪👏
You #KFG❤
PS I heard that "Jesus H Christ" certainly understandable 🤣
Thank you Suzanne! Glad you appreciate the unedited videos as i say how it is without the BS LOL
For how many years have you been running? well done
Coming up to 9 years this June. How about yourself?
@@PoetWithPace about 15 months or so, at 40 YO, I just wanted to understand if it's too late for me to try a sub 3 hour marathon in the years to come.
@@ganchinho it’s never too late and depends what level you are at right now?
24:33 Fun Fact: I actually failed my driving test by letting the car roll on this "not so steep hill." Haha... Literally at that exact point!
Now that is a fun fact!
Donato, how many marathons have you run now ?
TBH i never count, so will have to sit down and write them all down. Maybe 12-15?
Great video Donato, and liked the footage and commentary on how you felt and how you dealt with the challenges across the whole course. You’ve overcome a lot of injuries and setbacks so that 3:02 is superb. I was supporting, riding around the course on my mtb, following @thewu @runtheplanet and @harryruns1 in particular, didn’t spot you but the 3:00 groups were a tight pack especially 4 and 6 miles. I did a video, you might be in it, most likely 4 and 6 mile footage😊
Indeed i did briefly fly past with the 3 hour pacer on mile 4 of your footage! Thanks for supporting!
@@PoetWithPace Hi Donato, yes, I’ve just trawled through the footage and can see you, the white hat and red/white striped vest close behind the pacer😊
Great effort, bud. Was willing you on to go sub 180.
Thank you!
