- Today I am sharing a video of my personal favourite workout for judo. For this workout, we're using Chest Expanders. This old school tool is an absolutely fantastic way to develop pushing and pulling power for judo, as well as developing grip strength. Ever movement in this routine is directly applicable to judo and I guarantee that by using these workout you'll find substantial upper body strength gains.

That is by far the best chest expander workout video on RUclips!
giorgio ciaravolol thank you! Glad you liked it!
The Chest Expander is a great, but sadly forgotten tool. You can build muscle with it, especial in this gym closed times. No need for lifting the furniture.
I'm found my dads old one he used to be a wrestling champion in south of Iran, I also recently gotten into the power twist bars aswell.
I just got my first one, I'm pretty stoked. Like the guy in the other comment I really like power twisters as well.
Proper old skool 80s training ... No Retreat No Surrender 💪💯
Nice moto

@@densel.c8935 it's a movie...
80s? We were using Universal Gyms, Nautilus, and free weights in the 1980s. Chest expanders are from Sandow's time or earlier. Perhaps you meant 1880s. Ha! :)

❤ My mom wanted to support me in my weight loss journey and purchased 2 resistance springs from the goodwill. I’ve had them for a few years. thank you so much for this video because now I can put them to use.
My daddy had those too. They had red handles and about four springs. 1970s. 😊👍
It’s always comforting to use equipment as old as I am. Stay well.
Thanks.... These springs were always there in my store room my grandpa used them for his workout... Never knew how to use them... Learnt lot from your video
fantastic! I got my first chest expander today and I've already tried these exercises out, they're great!
Was looking for a chest expander workout video and I struck gold. This was perfect and very easy to understand!
This was really an excellent demonstration and breakdown of each exercise, thanks a ton!
Great demos! Can't wait for my chest expander to arrive.
I did it with my resistance band and it is hell of an workout. Realising how my left shoulders are weak. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge
Excellent Video Samson!!
BTW I went to your club at the solely centre 30years ago, great to see your still in excellent shape and still teaching judo!!
Thanks for the tips! Some of these exercises I have not seen. I am surprised you left out the front pull, starting with the expander in front of you, and pulling towards the chest. I do this exercise almost exclusively, and I’ve built up my shoulders, upper chest, and upper back. I am also 77 years old and really enjoyed the chest expander. Thanks again for your video!
nice to see more expander workouts, very good explanation and demonstration of technique, thank you
Thank you for sharing this! Amazing video! I use a chest expander and it's great. It's very hard to find info on this. I learned a few new exercises from you. Thank you again!
Thank you Sir for taking time and teaching us.
Thank you, Sir! Very helpful exercises!
Love this video. I remember my dad had one and I used to use it all the time as a kid. Just ordered one.
I have a spring as well as free weights ,now I am 73 years and after seen this video I decided to continue with spring work .
Cheers bud had this hiding up for to long glad you put this did this vid good solid workout
very nice video sir, didn't know you could do this many excercises with it, I norrmally do just the regular stretch which you showed at the begining of the video. It's nice to know you're still staying fit, not many elders wish to keep healthy this way. Thank you for the video...
Many thanks for the direction in your video - it's helpful.
Awesome. Works great and super easy set up. We love it.
Wooow. This Exercise is amazing, I seen how the old school men got super strong & ripped. Every movement requires the whole upper body to work. Constant tension. I only did 8 reps per movement and felt good. Imgaine high reps with heavy stretch.
Awesome exercises you have taught us, thanks
As usual great advice. Thank you very much
After very very long time found your video . Thanq for sharing your knowledge. Respetand love from India
GREAT exercises. Very Good Tips. Gday From Australia Champ. Definitely will add several of your exercises to my routine .
Great video.Great workout info. Thanks Man 🙏
Pretty cool i can feel it in the back of my shoulders nice one
Holy crap i just did this along with you and learned so much.
This is great for routine workouts. Works even better when I combine it with weight lifting for mass gain.
Thank you , this was very helpful .
thank you , it s great idea for hard workout
Thank you for sharing this with us.
It's a bit strange that nobody talks about this equipment on internet.
I found it more effective than dumbells at home, I don't know why.
Maybe I found it more enjoyable to pull through resistance than lifting weight.
I believe a lot of people find it effective because it gets harder throughout the movement as the bands stretch further, increasing resistance. Whereas with dumbbells, the resistance stays relatively the same throughout the movement.
It’s why you now see a lot of people adding bands to their squats or bench press
This is great, thank you!
Very very helpful sir❤😊
Thankyouuu soooooo muchhh...
Thank for sharing your exercise routine. It is simple and effective. Your brief video lecture was spot on.👊👍🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Just got a package of the rubber bands for a gift. I going to use your exercises. Thanks much for the tips.

Thank you very much
I follow you from Iraq
thanks, just what I neded
Soild brother!
Thanks
I have used chest expanders for many years and will tell you I got more shoulder/deltoid and upper back development from using them than I did from barbells and dumbbells. The problem is today they are hard to find and when you can find them they are usually inferior quality.
Sir you are great ex plainer.
Super more skills benefit for us
Respect 💪💪💪
Dear sampson, could you please show some nogi techniques in your next videos? Preferably tai-otoshi and harai-goshi :) i am using the quarantine to find some new techniques for my nogi repertoire and you and your great knowledge would be a great aid for that! Thank you and best wishes from germany!
FRICKvonARC unfortunately I don’t have any tatami at home so it will be hard to do so!
@@SampsonJudo oh that's sad. It will be pretty hard to survive without your videos..... but i am glad that you stay at home too. Best wishes and stay healthy sensei!
Hello! Just revisiting this comment. We have started releasing a new nogi technique every Friday!
@@SampsonJudo thank you very much! This is such a great aid for implementing my judo into a nogi context. I am so grateful for that! Best wishes for you sensei!
Really nice workout, do you recommend repeating sets or do each exercise one time in single workout?
Personally, I like to repeat each exercises 2-3 times. But it depends on how you feel. Maybe start with just once and then build yourself up to 2,3 etc.
Hi! Is the breathing rule same for all the exercises? In while flexing and out while releasing?
It would nice to know exactly what muscles are being effected though
Sir the workouts u have shown, will they build chest and shoulders ?
I was a good all round sportsman ,now I am 73 Plus .how many times i should do for a week .my intention is to build up my chest ,neck arms ..please advise me .thank you
Thank you for this video!
What is the name of the exercise at around 4:30 min
(IMO, something like 1 Arm Diagonal Across the Chest Pull or 1 Arm Diagonal Front Pull)?
It would be great writing names of all exercises, if possible. Thank you in advance.
Just to mention, there is a section about the expander/strandpulling training in the book:
Judo Training Methods by Takahiko Ishikawa & Donn F. Draeger
Mantap master
where can i buy the exact chest expanders that you use, thanks robbie
Can u tell me how many springs do I need in a chest expander to enjoy this workout..I have a 5 spring chest expander.. Thank u ❤️
It’s depends on how difficult you want it to be!
Do chest expander flies round out your shoulders?
is it recommended to perform these exercises everyday? And can they be substituted for weight training during quarentine?
It depends on how experienced you are. I would say 3x a week is a good number.
Can you tell the weekly frequency of this workout? Like alternative day or everyday?
It depends on your workout routine overall. if you're relying on this routine as your only upper body workout I would say 2-3 times a week. However, if you are doing other upper body workouts during the week then maybe this is only needed once a week.
super c'est un terrys comme le mien il y a 5 ressort de 25 lb , je pouvais en ouvrir 5 derriere le dos3fois et une fois a l'avant avec 4 ressort le l'ai toujours depuis 1958 ,
How many times a week should one do it
Best
Can i use these on my rest days when im not lifting weights or should i use these exclusively?
Jesus Ortiz although these can be used exclusively, I personally would use these to compliment your weight training program (or callisthenics program) rather than using them exclusively. If you have a rest day use it as a full rest day to enable your muscles to maximise their recovery. You could even potentially mix them into your weight training program. For example if you have a ‘pull’ or bicep/back day; you could use some of the pulling chest expanders exercises as part of that routine.
This bare chest expander is good for chest, arms, biceps, back and leg
I like the chest expander but after some use its springs goes loose.
hmm. Sounds like your chest expanders might be poor quality. Try looking at some new ones with good reviews. I've had my ones years and they are still working perfectly.
How many springs?
It depends on your own strength level. I’d always start with 1 string and then slowly progress to more as you get stronger.
Is this considered cardio ??
No, it is strength training.
@@SampsonJudo Thank you I'm unwell and find it difficult to get out to walk even , now my heart is suffering! God bless you 👍✝️💪
Am about 22 years but I can't even 😪 do this thing
Why are you breathing IN on the pull, and OUT on the release?? Please rep!y. Thank you.
it didnt make me bullet proof
I always think this tool is not helpful...but after watching your video i Just realised i made a mistake by not buying it
Yes this is an extremely valuable tool!
O chacha kamse kam bulletproof to mat likho
xD to ta waddo khouta ahi
