  • Today I am sharing a video of my personal favourite workout for judo. For this workout, we're using Chest Expanders. This old school tool is an absolutely fantastic way to develop pushing and pulling power for judo, as well as developing grip strength. Ever movement in this routine is directly applicable to judo and I guarantee that by using these workout you'll find substantial upper body strength gains.

    The Chest Expander is a great, but sadly forgotten tool. You can build muscle with it, especial in this gym closed times. No need for lifting the furniture.

    Thanks for the tips! Some of these exercises I have not seen. I am surprised you left out the front pull, starting with the expander in front of you, and pulling towards the chest. I do this exercise almost exclusively, and I’ve built up my shoulders, upper chest, and upper back. I am also 77 years old and really enjoyed the chest expander. Thanks again for your video!

    It's a bit strange that nobody talks about this equipment on internet.
    I found it more effective than dumbells at home, I don't know why.
    Maybe I found it more enjoyable to pull through resistance than lifting weight.

    • @SampsonJudo
      @SampsonJudo  3 года назад +6

      I believe a lot of people find it effective because it gets harder throughout the movement as the bands stretch further, increasing resistance. Whereas with dumbbells, the resistance stays relatively the same throughout the movement.
      It’s why you now see a lot of people adding bands to their squats or bench press

    I have used chest expanders for many years and will tell you I got more shoulder/deltoid and upper back development from using them than I did from barbells and dumbbells. The problem is today they are hard to find and when you can find them they are usually inferior quality.

    What is the name of the exercise at around 4:30 min
    (IMO, something like 1 Arm Diagonal Across the Chest Pull or 1 Arm Diagonal Front Pull)?
    It would be great writing names of all exercises, if possible. Thank you in advance.

    • @SampsonJudo
      @SampsonJudo  4 года назад +2

      It depends on your workout routine overall. if you're relying on this routine as your only upper body workout I would say 2-3 times a week. However, if you are doing other upper body workouts during the week then maybe this is only needed once a week.

      Jesus Ortiz although these can be used exclusively, I personally would use these to compliment your weight training program (or callisthenics program) rather than using them exclusively. If you have a rest day use it as a full rest day to enable your muscles to maximise their recovery. You could even potentially mix them into your weight training program.For example if you have a ‘pull’ or bicep/back day; you could use some of the pulling chest expanders exercises as part of that routine.
