  • 1 January 2006, Mariska's last tv appearance. She sings 2 songs on tv, Venus and RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH • Mariska Veres last tv ... Just 11 months later she died.
Mariska Veres is the one and only original singer of Shocking Blue. One of there most known worldhits was this one; Venus
it is funny how at the end the crowd takes over the orchestra and surprises the band and Mariska with the 'aaaaaahhhhhhh '

I certainly wouldn't have recognised her. Nevertheless, I can see why the Dutch loved her and why she'd become something of a national treasure. Her vocal capacity was unbroken, in fact it almost seemed better than in her younger years.

Originally (ignorantly) regarded this song as a trifle....years later realized what a great and joyful anthem it was, how fine an artist she was...and how much great music she and the band gave us.

This is one of those songs that maintains its vibes no matter how old it is. Listen to it since the day it was released - still same vibes !
