What a treat to get to actually see Mariska's last TV performance! She was an absolutely gorgeous woman, and, it pains me, deeply, to talk about her in the past tense. This has to be the best live performance I have *EVER* heard of this fantastic song! You will never be forgotten, Mariska!

@@joannabender152 Assuming the date of the concert given in the description is correct, she was 58 years & 3 months old. Aside from body image, we put too much emphasis on age as well. I'm pushing 70 and find it a bit comical when people refer to someone in their late 50s as old.
Even now she still has so much power in her voice. When I first heard her voice it was so refreshing to her sing, she had such a distinct style that sounded like no one else. Was sad to lose such a great and beautiful singer, RIP Mariska.
Every time I play this, I get very emotional, thank Mariska for the everlasting memory.

This was the first ever song I heard from Shocking Blue, but ever since I heard this ladies voice, I was hooked! I have been a huge fan ever since. I have everything the band ever recorded plus Mariska's solo work. Shocking Blue were I'm sure one of the best ever bands to emanate from the Netherlands. Their songs were short, and all so sweet. Brings a tear to my eye seeing this last clip of her performing. R.I.P.

Most people outside the Netherlands remember Mariska only as the stunning beauty of Shocking Blue. Seeing how she's changed after all those years can be a bit of a shock. I certainly wouldn't have recognised her. Nevertheless, I can see why the Dutch loved her and why she'd become something of a national treasure. Her vocal capacity was unbroken, in fact it almost seemed better than in her younger years.
Fräulein Menke no..it was at this time being bed ridden often and her body riddled with cancer she bravely came out and gave 1 last for rock n roll

That's the reason I don't get married women get old and turn ugly .
Maybe her looks changed because of medication that she took for her cancer.

She was hypnotic and charismatic right to the end. I am only now discovering her jazz recordings. Thank you so much for posting her work. She was a great singer and had a beautiful spirit. And those gypsy eyes!

I still find it hard in knowing she is gone. I wished she would have made it in the States as a bigger star performer. To me, she was a huge star and a great performer who had a fantastic singing voice. I hope she was happy throughout her life. She is missed and always will be missed.

The song was mostly known in the US from the cover by Bananarama, which is a shame because their version was mediocre manufactured pop. The original 1969 recording and this live performance blow that cheapo version out of the water.

The wonderful band Shocking Blue, but the voice and stage presence is simply fantastic! It is a pity he left so soon, but in Heaven will shine forever the voice of Mariska Veres.
