This girl lived only by music. She came to this World alone and left our Planet in proud solitude - left no trace... And so I wanted her children to stay! But geniuses don't leave traces...
'Venus' was a huge hit, but they couldn't follow up. There should have been a Dutch invasion with CB and the Blizzrds, Earth and Fire and Golden Earring. Golden Earring did the best in America.
@@michaelrochester48 I personally believe Venus wasn’t even their best song!! Railroad man, bird of paradise, and send Me a Postcard are all better songs imo. Her vocals are just better in those songs. Venus to me is a fun song but it’s not something I would say is their masterpiece. They have so many great songs better than Venus!! 😢
Mariska is very much a natural talent in this performance. Thrust before the vamping audience prepared to make her an heroine, and with no props but the band behind her, she delivers very well from within (without selling out her soul).
Every now and than i listen to their songs, and then i check out the videos of them here, its amazing that after all these years i still love to hear the deep voice of Mariska and the guitar work of the guys. Echt tof ! :-)

Pity, she seemed very entertaining & interesting. Please share any links you've got - my searches of "Mariska Veres interview English" turned up nothing. ☹
@@danhilbert6727 I will look for it again. She didn't speak English well at all when she first recorded in English. I was very surprised when I found an interview in English..probably in the 80s or 90s. I will try to find it again.
I bet he was Mariska’s boyfriend. Both of them were so cute. So sad she passed away about 12 years ago. I was in about eighth grade when I first heard them. Venus hit number 1 in jr high. Mighty Joe was awesome. Had the 45 and the B Side was I’m a Woman. All of their songs were great.
This video is taken from an italian TV show called "Speciale Per Voi" (Special for you) hosted by Renzo Arbore who is a very important radio, TV and music personality in Italy. This show was very famous, especially because the people in attendance was allowed to talk freely with the musicians and there was always hard criticism (those were the "protest" days).
I like that they arranged for a translator who spoke Dutch so they could participate, a Flemish woman apparently. Although it's a shame they only ask if they'll be playing more.
This is a TV show broadcasted on the first channel (Rai1) of the "Rai Radiotelevisione italiana". The man whose posed the questions to Mariska Veres is a famous italian musician, composer and show man called Renzo Arbore, founder and front man of the "Orchestra Italiana".
@@MrGoldenthroat I have no idea. You should compare with studio version, if they played live there must be some evident difference. My opinion is they're not actually playing live, but just mimicking
Total shame this host of the show didn't speak English. In those days Germans, French, Spanish and Italians were too lazy and arrogant to speak another language
American DJ's ignored this follow up to VENUS. Too bad, it's a great song............Mariska was a very sexy, sultry singer. Great country flavored guitar and understated but effective groove...
This Is a footage recorded from an italian musical TV show produced by the "Rai Radiotelevisione Italiana" in the 60s. The presenter Is Renzo Arbore, a professional folk musician, clarinet and accordion player, leader of the "Orchestra Italiana", with wich he travel across the world in concert.
Ferry got it from the original song and recording (of 'The Price of Love') written and recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1965. Shocking Blue just appropriated it nicely.
She was sexy without even trying. Great band who grooved great! Who could not just love her! I am so glad to be straight so I can have proper appreciation for a woman of her caliber. Hugs & kisses to Mariska forever & ever. Big time crush on her! 💋💯% in a big way!
Mariska singing live is always a treat. Should have made this the single as it has a great feel to it. I'm sure their first singles where recorded live if you look at Long and lonesome road clip they use two mics , one for recording then cleaned and mixed later in the studio ...I maybe wrong 🤔 Great time capsule though for the band , all looking good just wish there was more. Is it considered bad style in Italy to move along with the music ? Are they afraid of not striking the Bella Figura ? The public seem a bunch of anthropology students doing field observations .. ...
I'm curious about the majority of Shocking Blue's songs being sung in (very easily understood) English, years before Abba did the same thing, although it was clearly not the native language of either group. Did Robby and Mariska speak fluent English, or did they have to learn the language to enhance their musical careers? Did they also record Dutch-language versions of their songs?
Mariska defenitely did not talk english. she learned everything fonetic. Robbie probably was writing english well, although he made some mistakes. the most famous one is Godness instead of goddess(in the song Venus of course). They never recorded in dutch. only Mariska sang in Dutch before shocking blue and some German after Shocking blue.
Those mistakes are do not matter. It is like some pun (game of words). The sense of songs is not distorted. Even in names of bands there is some pun : Beetles or Beatles, Lead or Led Zeppelin.
