Having work as a police officer on the NY parkways for over 34 years, the main reason no trucks are permitted on them is they were built in the 1920s and the overpasses are most at heights of 10 ½ to 12 feet. These overpasses are great masonry structures but by old world craftsmen. 18 wheelers wander on the parkways on a daily basis and repeatedly test those old world structures. In my 34 years I have yet to witness a truck come out victorious. It usually very messy with torn aluminum all over the highway. Simple as that the trucks won’t fit and the parkway owners won’t raise the overpasses.
My husband used to drive semi truck. He was in NYC and actually had an officer hail him on the cb as he went to stop at a stop and tell him to keep going eventhough the light was red. Hubby got to his destination and that same officer pulled in next to him and explained why he told him not to stop at the light. Come to find out they were having a problem with gangs breaking into trucks as they were stopped at lights and taking stuff out of trucks.
Yeah that happened to me back in 1977 going to HUNTS POINT MARKET GANGS CUT MY BIG LOCK I SAW THEM AND TOOK OFF DIDNT STOP TILL I SAW A COP!! SCARED THE CRAP OUTTA ME😮
1992 last time I was in NYC in a 18 wheeler and I haven't missed it, the best way to see NYC on TV or your rear view mirrors 🙂 Thanks for the ride alone👍
Long Island New York is where I’m from Josh. You traveled these crazy Long Island roads like a champ- no real way to avoid any of the traffic around here.
i grew up in New England, anytime you took a trip you'd need to drive through NY. We always avoided NYC and the George Washington bridge. We'd drive through White Plains over the old Tappan Zee bridge.
When you asked, you were in the Bronx. The bridges above you folks park on because the tall building to your left and right are condos/apartments. This was one of my regular runs prior to covid.
As soon as you crossed the GW bridge you were in the Bronx. I worked as a firefighter there for 20 years. Glad your trip was uneventful and I bet you’re glad this run is behind you. Stay safe
I live in Staten Island. That traffic isn’t that bad. Try going over the George Washington bridge on the way to a Yankees game. Could be stuck there for an hour
Hey josh nice to see ol blue in NYC i live in the boro of Bronx NY you drove thru it......... in the video you was saying about traffic and the road above are the city streets.....btw love watching all your videos josh im also german my mom was in germany..... god bless you josh and your family keep the rubber side down and the shine part up.....
I am a trucker from the Bronx. I recommend no one to park on the street or leave your truck unattended. They broke into mines and cloned the EZ pass but left it my truck to make seem like they didn’t take it and put about $3000 worth of tolls that i had to pay.
New Jersey is very unique when it comes to roads and traffic. It's the only state I've been too where I feel confused on what's going on. You can't make left turns in Red Bank, so they have what they call, jug handles to make left turns on. So confusing.
The reason they don't want you on the Garden State Parkway is that the overpasses up north are only 12foot high. South of Eatontown 18-wheelers are allowed to go south and north but must exit coming north at the Eatontown exit.
Looks like ya hit the traffic pretty lucky some days it takes hours and hours to get in and out, glad the big apple treated you decently lol good work my friend you cruised through it like a true professional 🤙
Great vlog Josh, I'm from NJ I now live in west Jersey you drove past exit 19 on RT 80 in NJ, but I grew up in Bergen County NJ, worked for New Jersey Transit for 25 years going in and out of NYC, if you ever need to go to Long Island again the best way to go from NJ is to use RT 287 to I87 cross Westchester Express Way to I 95 South to the Throgsneck Bridge, going both ways, you would avoid all that traffic for the GW Bridge, and Cross Bronx Expressway, you did a great job navigating the metropolitan area. Safe travels.
How that hugh apartment/office building even stands above the freeway is amazing (engineering). Brings back so many memories.... I lived in Manhattan 1992 to 1995. 23rd and 2nd. Gramercy. Super video Josh & great driving, be safe and enjoy the evening 🙏. " 🌴Lol"
I have been across the Cross Bronx Expressway with a Volvo VNL and a 53 footer....Yep Chaos is the right adjective. Great video as always... safe travels.
I live on Long Island Josh, about 20 minutes from your drop. In our area, we use time to describe how far away we are from points. It could take you an hour to go a mile, depending on traffic. You did great with our Metro area traffic! Be safe, travel safe, God Bless.
Hey Josh, great video. I was born and raised in Queens, NY. and now living in Montreal... I've never seen you go to long island in your videos since I've been subscribed to you ever since diesel was a puppy....... and yes, I don't miss the NYC traffic.
Trucks are allowed on the Parkway below exit 105 all the way down to Cape May. Where you were unloading was exit 136, the underpasses on the north end are too low for trucks to get thru. It was like that since they started building it. Where the Parkway crosses the Raritan River, 8 km down, the Parkway is 8 lanes wide in each direction. The southbound bridge is 7 lanes wide...but you get the idea.
Greetings from Europe Josh. Been a long time subscriber to your vlogs. Currently watching whilst en route with my truck from Germany to England on the ferry from Amsterdam Holland to Newcastle England. 17 hour crossing. Keep your stick on the ice, dude 👍
Josh I was born in Queens NY in 1955 and later moved east to Massapequa (south shore). In 1992 moved to Colorado in a rural town....no traffic or congestion. Tuff place to live and commute ,keep the great videos
Trucker Josh I live in Manhattan right by the GWB the wonderful buildings above the highway and I travel on the cross bronx every day and trust me you get use to the traffic and learn the street routes to avoid it and the bridges above the cross bronx are not highways its regular streets and people park there good thing you didn't cross the GWB during rush
I used to run those two gps's at the same time too...always fun listening those two fight it out....But in the end I was the Captain of my ship thus having the final word on which turn to take....lol...Travel safe Trucker Josh....
Josh, the reason for no trucks on the parkway (The Garden State Parkway to be exact) has to due with the age of the parkway itself. The parkway predates the interstate highway system but about 20 years. Therefore it was built with bridges that met the requirements of the day (about 12' tall) and therefore trucks of today simply do not fit! This also applies to the NYC area Parkways as well. NYC Parkways were built as early as the 1920's and vehicles were far smaller back then.
God was good to you Josh by coordinating both deliveries in one day! The Big Guy is looking out for Trucker Josh!!🙏. You would have never slept 1 wink at the Vince Lombardi Rest Stop……if you got a parking spot. Safe Travels!!🇺🇸
On the Garden State Parkway trucks are allowed below Exit 105 Southbound. From exit 105 on up northbound is restricted no trucks except deliveries to the rest areas I used to live in NJ and traveled The GSP many times to go on fishing trips.
My Dad grew up in The Bronx NY....My Grandparents lived there till they died...Been there a few times as a kid, then later as an adult, working as an otr truck driver like you, once making a delivery...That was nerve racking but I made it in and out unscaived...
It was never a place I liked to be been there often but that doesn't mean I liked being there, the people were always nice ,thanks Josh for the memories.
The parkway were constructed way back when Robert Moses was in charge of highways. They were called parkway because at one time they all started and ended at a park. New York city Is made up of 5 boroughs you won't be going into Manhattan you'll go through the bronx and queens out to long island. Born and raised on long island been trucking on the island 5 boroughs of new York Connecticut and New Jersey. Enjoy the ride josh it won't be bad at all. Be safe out there my brother
Hello Josh, thanks for the nice video. I can't understand why the truck traffic is forced through the small streets. Since a highway bridge was closed here due to dilapidation, 10,000 trucks and 23,000 cars have been rolling through our town every day for two years. All the residents are very angry. In the meantime the bridge has been demolished and it is hoped that at least part of the bridge will be passable in two years' time.
There are alot of highways you can use in that area...US 1 & 9, US 22, I-278, I-78, I-287, I-95....You just can't use the parkway. also, alot of those small industrial parks were built long before houses were there.
I've been two New York City twice on business and you're right, Trucker Josh, it's complete chaos with crazy drivers. Even sidewalks are packed with crazy people all going someplace/anyplace in a huge hurry. I still have to admit, it's a wonder and vibrant place to visit. Drive carefully Trucker Josh.
My husband drove a flatbed for several years and had to deliver a load to a construction site right in the heart of NYC. He told his dispatcher he would never take another load anywhere close to that place no matter what it paid! Lol!
You handled that like a real pro! Glad you got outta there safely! So with two ladies in your truck telling you where to go, do they ever get into a cat fight? If so, please get that on video. LOL
Man, why the heck did she send you up the turnpike, you're just paying an extra toll now. You were on 278. If were going to Long Island, I would take the Verrazano Br..instead of the Cross Bronx Expressway any day of the week
Back before 911 we used to drive on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge. First few times I thought I would loose the top of my trailer. Always had a love/hate relationship with NYC running to Hunts Point. It was like the wild west back in the mid and late 80's. Darn good food though.
Josh, I was sitting here enjoying watching your trip to Long Island was hoping you would leave at night as the traffic would have been bad in the morning. For bridges being marked lower than what they really are I was told when the snow n ice build up that is the real height.
Hi Trucker Josh looks like a busy couple days but the videos have looked great me and my husband Ron have family that live on Long island on and never knew how to say the proper way to say it we never have been to long Island yet but one of these years after my husband Ron retires we plan to see some of his side of the family then go see mine in Florida me and my husband Ron couldn't live in a city like that it's way to busy but just to visit family then go home great video as always
Nice video Josh ....I couldn't do that traffic everyday..... But I did drive through Washington DC at rush hour a couple of times , its tricky ,been Irish an everything on the wrong side of rd for me 🤣....but I got her done
If you lived in that area your taxes would be $8-12g a year easy. I live in Pa not far from Delaware Water gap. Drive by the TA all the time, the cheapest diesel is exit 4 rt46 1/2 down on the left.
Wait until you get on the cross bronx right after you come of the gwb and go under the apartments it gets tight under there. Sign will say no trucks in left lane but on the cross bronx it's the lane to be in moves the best
BTW: Parkeays ARE NOT Freeway's, 99,% are TOLL ROADS & in both NEW YORK and New Jersey have LIMITED CLEARANCE issues & FINES & Towing to get an Overheight Truck backwards to the ENTRANCE RAMP is NOT CHEAP ❗

My uncle is a truck driver he drives through Chicago and a cop told him the same thing
70’s were great weren’t they!

I was born and raised in Brooklyn and this city will be forever in my heart
The 401 through Toronto is the busiest road in North America.
1992 last time I was in NYC in a 18 wheeler and I haven't missed it, the best way to see NYC on TV or your rear view mirrors 🙂 Thanks for the ride alone👍
That's the last time I was there too..2 too many times 😂
LOVE THE VIDEOS AND YOUR MUSIC WATCHING FROM BYERS COLORADO KEEP ON TRUCKING
The parkways were built way back when and the overpasses are all arched very low Big truck 13.6 Cannot get under

There’s not too many receivers that say that so you got a love it when a guy says that
In New York we want everything done yesterday. It’s no surprise they took the load early.
Hey Josh. I am glad that it is not me driving there!

Love the potholes that swallow up your truck!
Northern New Jersey and the NYC area have no trucks allowed on all the parkways. Been that way since 2001 at least. That's when I started driving.
A lot longer then 2001! Try whenever they built lie.
Go Josh Go! Nerves of steel! You are a brave man sir! Best regards, Chuck

Stay safe, you're almost out of the woods.
NYC here. Yeah we commute in that traffic each and every day. 😂😂😂
The traffic you were in isn’t even at its peak. Gets 10x worse
It was never a place I liked to be been there often but that doesn't mean I liked being there, the people were always nice ,thanks Josh for the memories.
wow thats quite the Vlog. I went through there in a car many years ago. That was enough. Still not as bad as the 401 though.

I drove a stagecoach and a curb bumper in New York for 41 years
Gps really wanted you to spend money taking you that way from Jersey to Long Island. Much cheaper to go through Staten Island from Jersey
I've been two New York City twice on business and you're right, Trucker Josh, it's complete chaos with crazy drivers. Great driving. Even driving a four wheeler on the Cross Bronx Expressway can be a nail biter!
You took the long way you could've just went over 278 Verrazano narrows bridge to 495
My husband drove a flatbed for several years and had to deliver a load to a construction site right in the heart of NYC.

Grew up in New York City, lived in Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens😱😱😱
Hopefully you don’t have a heart attack when you see the price of the toll for crossing the George Washington bridge
Josh, I was sitting here enjoying watching your trip to Long Island was hoping you would leave at night as the traffic would have been bad in the morning. For bridges being marked lower than what they really are I was told when the snow n ice build up that is the real height.
Wow a lot of your subscribers eighter live or have lived in area of NY /NJ .🤟
I sure have enjoyed your trip to NJ and NYC. I am a long time fan.
I live in Queens, New York, right next to the Throgs neck bridge you will see apartment buildings if you go over the Throgs neck bridge
You will hit the overpasses and the parkways no trucks or buses a lot on parkways
Don’t take the parkway Josh stay on the LIE all the way through
12ft 11 is measures from the center of your axle to the top of your truck. Not from the ground.

Been a lot of years since I drove that exact route on to Long Island but looks just like I remember it.
Some people love the hustle and bustle of the big city. Give me Wyoming or Montana any day . Where you’re living would be good also.
I could feel my blood pressure and anxiety going up watching you drive through the Bronx. I took the 95 across twice, and that was enough for me, lol
Born and live in the Bronx my whole life and work as a delivery driver for Amazon unfortunately in queens so I deal with the traffic all day
When I watch Josh's video, I dream of becoming a Canadian truck driver. Thank you Josh~~ Currently, I live in Jeju Island.🎉🎉🎉
Great job Josh! That was intense.
If you lived in that area your taxes would be $8-12g a year easy. I live in Pa not far from Delaware Water gap. Drive by the TA all the time, the cheapest diesel is exit 4 rt46 1/2 down on the left.
Trucker Josh im shocked the GWB TRAFFIC WAS MOVING SO WELL AND THOSE WERE APARTMENTS YOU WENT UNDER AFTER YOU CROSSED THE BRIDGE!! GOOD LUCK BUD!!😅😮
Great video,Josh. 🎉 Please post total toll costs for this trip.
I was born and raised on long island but i drove transit buses in Queens and Manhattan
Happy the weather was on your side for this trip otherwise this video could easily have been derailed..
Hauppauge...you said it right ! ( Hop-Pog )
Yeah, you think that’s a lot of people waiting to you get right through the boroughs of New York City. I’d love to go to New York City as a tourist but to I don’t think I’d want to drive a truck through it.
Great video..your a good driver man.
My heart went out to you driving in NYC. you did great though.❤
i live on long island i work in the city my commute is about 1hr to drive just 30miles
I see you are on Stiles st, you are going to 1&9, which will take you to 278. from there you don't have to go to the GWB, you should go over the Goethals Br, to the Verrazano Br, then right after you go over the Kocsiuszko Bridge you get on the LIE, and go to exit 55, Hauppauge. Funny, i used to to the NYCB bank runs in NJ, I would head to Cranford, pick up all the other bags and take em all to Hauppauge.
Glencove NY
I lived in Brooklyn from birth until I was 34 then moved to Long Island been here since.
you passed my exit, exit 37 Long Island Exp. Welcome to NY
For all the places you go, it makes me think that Keystone Western must be a pretty good company...a lot of customers, happy customers. And perhaps when they're on the phone setting something up they say, "If you can, can you have that Josh guy pick up for us again?"
Been waiting for this one to drop, did not disappoint
I'M FROM BROOKLYN. To be fair, the Cross Bronx Expressway is the closest thing to Fury Road from the Mad Max series.
They build the residential area's around the industrial areas Josh. Ya got it backwards😂😂😂
Then they forget to build truck routes to the industrial zones 😆
Been watching you forever, live in NYC
Hi Josh just like Paris, keep on Trucking
