Lovely build. Yes, lacquer over enamels tend to cause issues.

Great job. Nice looking pilot just missed the red arrow on the helmet though lol. I am just starting to do this model myself looking at the amount of filler used it doesn’t look like the best of fits. Sorry to see the mess the varnish made. I would have been gutted after all that hard work. Thanks for sharing.

Great video! Looked a fun build such a shame about that stuff eating into the paint job right at the end 😢 ! I’d of been so frustrated !

    Ouch...........
Too bad, Jason. I wonder, however, why you ever decided to put a clear coat on a beautiful glossy finish ...???!!!
I have 60 year old models in my collection (given to me by my uncle) and those decals are still firmly attached to the models. I did notice that decals placed on matt paint do NOT adhere well and will - almost certainly - come off, after a couple of decades.
You should NOT have worried and have taken the risk. Decals, especially modern ones, should stick very well to a glossy finish.
Next time ( if you really have to/want to give it a gloss coat) give the paint several weeks, if not a few months to dry. Yes....THAT long. Enamel paint needs a looooooooong time to fully harden and to get rid of the chemicals that might react to other solvents.
Personally, I would never put another layer over such a nice glossy finish. Even if the decals are less glossy than the model.
"It's only a plastic model", is my way of thinking.
Apart from the damage, it's a very nice model ! Well done.

Hm, one might still want to apply an overall coat of clear 'to erase ' the edges of the decals and make them look as if they are painted on.
Hey, Jason makes the mistakes so that we don't have to ! :)
And yes, it still is a lovely build.

I'm thinknig of getting this for a fun build but painting wise want to avoid enamels. How do you think a bright acrylic red with a gloss spray over the top would go to recreating glossy red effect? I mean we gloss coat anyway for the decals!

New to this hobby and picked this model as my first one (yet to start). Can you tell me - any reason you did not do a weathering wash on this? I am planning to go with supplied paints as this is the first time I am going to do this.

These are show birds so don’t get dirty, best to leave off a grime wash and just highlight a few panels.

what putty did you use? Great job mate!

    • @markrayton6385
      @markrayton6385 5 лет назад

The putty he used was ... Deluxe Marerials Perfect Plastic Putty. It's pretty good stuff and is easily cleaned up with water enabling little or no sanding.
