Can't believe that Hingis in 2000-2002 was beating Venus and Serena and Davenport but unable to overcome Capriati. The only explanation seems to be, she struggled more against powerful defenders than against powerful attackers.
well Martina did crush Jen in late 2000 but your point still stands. After all, Hingis’ worst record was against Graf, who could power-rally all day long, and in her 2006 comeback she really struggled with Clijsters/Henin/Mauresmo, who were also powerful defenders.
hm. Hingis was experiencing increasing trouble with Serena and Venus from the end of 1999 and only won three completed match against *both players 2000 - 2003. The discrepancy in total winners struck could be incredible. Serena had struck c. 40 winners to Hingis’ two after one and a half sets played at Montréal, final 2000. The difference with Capriati was that she was highly *consistent, yielding far fewer errors. She was also a very physical kind of player, mentally and physically capable of rallying (- in extended rallies) for hours - which really wasn’t Serena, Davenport’s or Venus’ gamestyle at all. Capriati is a far more attritional kind of player, using relative power and depth and defending when not in control of the point. Hingis indicated these differences in some of her pressers at that time.
Capriati was GOD MODE in this match🤣❤️❤️
Love this! Thanks so much for the footage!
When Jennifer still had a backhand. You can see by the end of 2002 it was gone. 03 and 04 she struggled with it
She began pulling it instead of hitting it
Forehand was always her stronger side though.
@@LuLu-nw6bi in her younger years she favorited her backhand. And it was strong up till after Miami 02
@@jeir1430 Favored or not, her forehand was the better shot.
So good!!

She almost won against her in a grand slam finals though.

@@johnkelley6055 Don't forget Jelena Jankovic too.
Should have just showed the 3rd set since you did not show the comeback in the 3rd set
This is an exhibition or an offical tournament?
Exhibition
This event used to be a traditional warm-up event to the Australian Open. I think there were only four players.
