I think it has to do with Hingis having the ability to do more with the forehand.. maybe the backhand as well. Hingis wasn’t that much smarter than Arantxa.

Their matchup were pretty much who’s gonna outsmart the other one. And in this department,Hingis was above everybody else.

Arantxa really flattened her forehand at the end of her career.
I like their match-ups, so different from nowadays tennis, pity they were all very one sided

That was a big problem during her comeback year. And probably what held her back from getting beyond the quarterfinals of a grand slam.
