  • Why so few Americans live in the 9 Emptiest States despite many being among the Most Beautiful!
The reasons why NOBODY Lives in Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, Maine, South Dakota and other regions of the USA with low population densities differ by state. But some are uninhabited due to cold and snowy weather, extreme isolation, lack of water, harsh terrain not suitable for farming or real estate, government lands, and no jobs or industry for large cities to grow!
Not all of these states are out West, and a few even once had MASSIVE cities, such as Butte, Montana, which is now nearly abandoned! So why do these 9 empty states COMBINED have a smaller population than New York City?

And if you're trying to homestead, buy cheap, empty land, or just wanna live in the middle of nowhere... The parts of the country that have the fewest number of people over a large area, with little civilizations and roads, my biggest suggestion is to visit these cities, towns, and states first to decide where you want to move to and live!

ALOT of the companies and their employees that are fleeing California's over population, Liberal political policies, high crime and sky high taxes are moving to New Mexico because of the availability of cheap land, low cost of living and tax breaks the state are offering companies and people to relocate there. I bought 25 acres right on the Rio Grande river in Los Lunas (35 miles south of Albuquerque) when I was TDY to Kirkland AFB for 6 months in 2008 for next to nothing to build a cabin and start a Homestead when I retired, I'm moving out there at the end of this year and was there last September to drop off the 25' foot camper I'm going to live in while I build my cabin and I was amazed how to how big the Area had grown, in 2008 there wasn't much around the AFB but now it all built up and the Albuquerque metro has grown several miles past the AFB, while I was there I was talking to my neighbor who moved there in 2021 from Los Angeles when his automotive aftermarket company was moved to South Albuquerque and he was telling me how much cheaper it was for both those workers that agreed to move with the company and the company, they literally cut the starting pay in half for all the employees that they new employees and the employees that moved by 25% and they are living high on the hog, he sold his 1 bedroom apartment in L.A. and bought a 5 acre piece of land and even after he built his house and bought a new car to commute to work and a new car for his wife and even then it barely made a dent in the money he sold his apartment for and he's lived off the money from his apartment for the last 3 years and his paychecks just strait into bank and hasn't been touched, he said his wife stopped working when they moved to New Mexico because they no longer needed her paycheck to barely squeeze by. He said moving New Mexico was the best decision he and his wife ever made.

I truly hope that those less populated places can stay that way. As a lifetime resident of Florida (well over 40 years) its been incredibly sad and disheartening to see the exponential population growth here, with massive suburban sprawl destroying so much green space. The traffic has become unbearable. Many of the natural places I used to go to escape the city are now being filled with houses, apartments, strip malls and business parks. At what point will it stop? Do we have to pave over everything?

It is NOT easy living out here and it really takes a toll on ones mental health. Anchorage is nice and there's lots to do and enjoy. Winter was brutal. Started in October , didn't end until late April -early May. 5 hours of daylight- sunrise around 10am, sunset around 2.30-3pm! Lowest temp I recall - 40 below. By contrast, 23 hours of daylight in summer thanks to the midnight sun_ I hated the midnight sun; it would keep me awake... 'sunset' from 3-5am. Of course, you had to survive the mosquito swarms! Temps could get up to 95, but _ no humidity. June was spring, July and August was summer, September was fall; here we go again! I enjoyed our life there, but like I said, I was a kid.

I've visited other states but have never wanted to live anywhere else. The only other place I'd live would be a beach. I think we have less than 5 million people? When Kentucky is shown on tv reporters find the worst areas to show. We're not crowded. My county has less than 27 thousand people. We have 2 little towns. Some would call them villages. Most people live up in the creeks and hollers. I live about 2 miles from where Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia meet. You can be in 3 states at the same time. This area is beautiful.

@@rM-xk9ob ..The cost of living has always been cheaper here until the inflation happened. Where I live there's no groups of homeless people living on the streets in town. Families try to take care of their own. We were doing very well. Coal miners were finally getting the pay they deserved. The Obama-Biden administration got most of the mines shut down. You can holler about the fossil fuels all you want but this country can't go back to the stone age. I just read today about a billion dollars that's been doled out to different environmental groups that are wasting money. Not enough people want electric vehicles. Where are they going to be charged up at? When coal mining took the big hit, not only did miners get out of a job it made stores close. The miners such as some in my family would've worked another 6-8 yrs. As soon as their unemployment ran out they signed them up on disability.

There has been a massive post-covid land grab by wealthy out of staters looking for their second, or third, or fourth or whatever, who have driven housing prices sky high. Well, it's probably more like BLACKROCK gobbling up land there, as they have been all over the country, since they have to convert their huge digital fortune into tangible assets before the banks go belly up! This is a major contributor to the very real housing shortage and also goes with the 2030 agenda to eradicate homeownership so they can "stack and pack" everyone into the 200 sf coffin apartments that will fill the tiny population zones, as stated per their own spokespeople... So you should definitely enjoy your beautiful rural home now, while you can! That's what I would do. I have heard great things about that area, though never had the opportunity to visit in person.

Those days of going home crawling along at 15 mph on I-10 in 4 lanes of traffic when it's 110°F outside and my A/C is broken. Nope. It was people trying to get to their 8 am class at NMSU. The exit lane of the two-lane highway backed up to get through the light which took about 10 minutes. I laughed so hard, but was grateful I'd made the move. Now I've got the local mindset and will ask myself, "do I really want to drive all the way over there?" when it'll take me 15-20 minutes tops. Lazy bum. 😂

Don't mention that town. Videos like this have advertised us too much this past decade & counting. MT residents used to act that way about 26 yrs. ago. In recent years, Big Biz Cali has combined Gallatin County into a mini CA. My current town now has squatters and transients living under our Yellowstone River bridge just yards from my home. The cops are under trained and lazy. Our governor's okay with permitting gender changes on teen girls & the ranchers are scarce. I love this state. Unfortunately it's turned into a *tourist attraction* in which few leave once here.
I'm part of a community where I reside. It's full of elders as well as families yet even the 7 y.o. kids are noticing the malevolent changes. None are mine, but the children talk to me and tell me exactly how they feel. ~ Covah

    Depends on who you are.
As a young person looking for fun, career etc bustling cities are good.
As you grow older you may seek solitude.
People with families need to make a decision - rural living is good for children, but so are friends, especially as they become teenagers. So it depends on parental availability to ferry children around. I couldn't, so I live in an urbanised area
But it is now getting busier, so wish I had the money to live in a rural área now that child drives.
You see we are all different. Some need bustle, some need peace a quiet. But cost of living and ability to drive is important. So even as you grow older you have to consider how long you can safely drive as to where you chose to live

have seen this before. Just very interesting for a rapid breakdown of population density. Gives you a sense of a vast terrain. When I think of all the city dwellers in the country, I know that will start to diminish very soon. Why live in a city when you desire more? Cities remind me of colleges, great to achieve goals, but not a place to raise a family or retire. Sandy Rinaldi, Arkansas, US Army veteran 1971 to 1974, 2 DEC 23

My family began in Scotland and migrated to Canada. Some of them got tired of all the politeness and migrated to Maine. From there most of them got tired of Mooses and went everywhere else in the US. Maine has a soft drink called Moxie. It tastes like carbonated cough syrup. It was worth leaving just to never drink that mess again.
The reason so few people live anywhere other than around the big cities in the western States and Alaska is because the US Govt owns nearly all of the land. This is amazing considering the US Constitution only authorizes 10 square miles.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. I'm from New York City, Harlem, in Manhattan, to be exact. I love it!! I've helped move 14 of my relative up her. We now have 22 family member living here, with most of us being born and raised in NYC. It's true that the crime rate is high per capita. However, because many of those crimes are domestic, meaning people usually know the person who harmed them personally, my family and I remain to ourselves. We've had Zero issues in 21 years.

I live in Central Maine. Its been colder here then in Alaska many times. We dont have issues with Canada, we love them visiting us. We moved here to get away feom the city and the drama of the crazy hustle and bustle of largely populated city living. Ill take country living any day...my childrens classrooms have only 10-12 kids PER GRADE! Thats right and our district serves several towns prek-12grade maxes at 132 students. Yep small town living has it benefits AND its draw backs. lg big box grocery stores are 30 mins away, Canada is 1.5 hrs away and we wouldnt have it any other way.....except up north more where populations of towns are like 100 vs the 900 here. lol

Spot on about North Dakota! As someone who survived my school and high school years there, it was COLD!! They don't even mention the very small country towns there! For example, my whole 6th grade class was 12 students. You learned to put in your car extra blankets, extra food, etc., in case you're stranded on the side of the road by a blizzard. You also learned to either know how to, or bring along someone who knew how to deliver a baby for the same reason. The joke in our small community? "If its 20 ° above zero? Consider it a warm day! If I went back to ND now? My bones could no longer take the cold weather! 😎
