- This video was taken during May 1990 and is just a record of a day in the life of my hometown Nantwich.
Basically it's a stroll into the town centre starting at the Lake in Shrewbridge Road. Looking through the town at the shops and any changes taking place. then on my way home stopping off at the Railway Hotel for refreshments.
All the people. And hardly any traffic, the good old days.
Not so long ago..britain has changed too much
Thank you for this, it's priceless.
I got quite emotional watching this of how life used to be
The man pushing the Cart still does that today
Yep, flash
He does not do it as much now a days though, due to health reasons. He is mainly in Crewe now a days. I see hime when I go for a pint.
Sadly passed away last month this year
Great memories, thanks.
Exactly how I remember it 👍 thanks so much for all these great videos
Priceless thank you
Lovely video, Lovely Town.
Hello John,
What's the old saying?
A picture speaks a thousand words,
you capture the whole essence within this Cheshire town and just like cheese ( Cheshire, of course) or a bottle of wine, it matures with one thing....
Time....priceless as it may be x
,
The good old days, becoming one big council estate these days and rough at night.
Thank you for doing this, it’s beautiful
Birthplace of my mum. Great slice of social history. Greenhall Whitley beer, as severed in the Railway, we used to call it Greenhall Shitley, awful, thank goodness for CAMRA. 😂😂
this is so weird to see, I've only known the Nantwich that's been around in the past year when i moved here
Was living there then. Lovely town.
Get depressing watching how pleasant it used to be!
Yaer I left Malbank school that year and still remember the town like that, still see Flash now and again. But up in Crewe and in the pub, as his health is not as good as it use to be. So does not push his cart every day now. This is when we still had stapley water garden and no new road across the river and we still had all the playing fields at the school. That is now a housing estate and the football ground.
Now it has been destroyed by housing estates everywhere and new stores, turning into Crewe
Yes you're correct. For anyone reading this I can attest to the validity of this claim. The town centre seen here, Nantwich Lake, Welsh Row, all of it was sadly destroyed and there's now only one massive housing estate. #progress
@@KommandantHLL Haha thanks so much for attesting. Yes, I was born in the 1990s and I am from Nantwich. Last 10 years it has gone downhill, with all the awful new housing estates and out of towners arriving. Though, the variety in food and businesses has increased.
@@jakehowie442 thanks for taking this in the spirit it was intended aha!
@@KommandantHLL Although, you may have been sarcastic...your silly unfunny point is somewhat true. That is why I agreed. No Welsh Row has not been destroyed, but it is now surrounded by new housing estates and a lot more traffic each day. Even Cheshire East council is not stupid enough to destroy 300 year old buildings, but it did back in the 1960s and built rubbish, as you can now see in Swine Market.
Nantwich has become a dormitory commuter town for people of Stoke, Manchester and whoever else decided to move there.
This creates issues with traffic on small, narrow roads, pollution as well as over stretched healthcare and school services. That is issue regarding new housing estates, coupled with the ugliness of the homes themselves.
If you go to 21:10 you can see the bin guy 😮
Which are the desirable places to live in Nantwich? Villages?
Tarpoley
The bloke is still sat on that wall to this day (3:35) except wearing a corona mask which he moves to one side when taking a swig of his Tesco value cider.
Me live in Nantwich
to think this is where i now drop dangerous game on filthy bundalengerz
Hello old duck🤪🤪🤪
