- “The revealing intro …where is my baby, sets the scene for a truly frantic jaunt.”
Phil Smith
“The disc is pure Soul beat and totally in keeping with what was happening in 1966.”
KR
Penned by Percy Mayfield, the track was also recorded by Ray Charles on ABC-Paramount 1962.
Earl Grant (1931-1970), was born in Idabel, Oklahoma. Though he would be known later for his keyboards and vocals, Grant also played trumpet and drums. Grant attended four music schools, eventually becoming a music teacher. He augmented his income by performing in clubs during his army service, throughout which he was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. Grant signed with Decca Records in 1957.
Grant also made a few appearances in film and television, including Tender Is the Night (1962), Juke Box Rhythm (1959), and The Ed Sullivan Show (1961).
Grant sings the title theme for the 1959 film “Imitation of Life”
Grant died instantly in a car accident in Lordsburg, New Mexico, at the age of 39.
Proper Northern.
So much great music that did not get enough credit in the U.S.❤❤❤🎶
This is class, brilliant, not smiled so much for years!!

Thanks Tony.
Great record and I've watched this clip loads of times and always laugh at the lad at 2.10 who nearly falls over after losing his balance and struggling to get up. I've done it loads of times.......dancing is great fun even at 62yr old.
Love watching Northen Soul dancers enjoying themselves...Great to see the men up an dancing to..Fab..xx😉😆
Just love to watch folks dancing to Northern....I can't walk no more never mind dance....But I used to love it....KTF....
Great comment Mark - thanks for visiting the channel.
Fab, just won't die out! lol don't get old 2 quick we is having the time of our lives, loads of youngsters as well xxx ps was told it was dead in 1970 lol hence most of our toons were called oldies then xxx
Do you remember the pub "The Bun Shop", near where the multi storey car park is now (100yds from the Corn Exchange). Well I always thought he was singing "She said she was going to the Bun Shop, right across the track...." Instead of Porn shop, for obvious reasons if you remember the Bun Shop in the early '70s!
all the hairs at the back of my neck standing up, brilliant, for ever
No matter how full the dance floor gets no matter the style of tuuuuuuuuuuunnne classic,,,stomper etc every soulie shows the greatest respect to their brother or sister when out on the floor ( couldn't help it sorry ) when dancing giving them room they need with nobody banging into anyone ,,,unlike other types shall I say ,,,,, ,,,,,,,,ktf
all the hairs at the back of my neck standing up, brilliant, for ever

After a long time of listening to The Meteors and that genre, I’ve come back to the best music ever produced ✊🏽
Me too! I seen the Meteors live along with King Kurt, Guana Batz, The Krewmen, and others, but I've discovered, like you, I find you just can't beat a bit of Northern Soul. ..KTF

Some of the crowd are actually dancing to the Decca dancer.
it does make it easier then to match evry thing up I try to use the sound track live but not always possible with some of the talkers behind you or but that's what makes the real thing lol

Great track & Video as usual Rob , Im in the middle of doing a similar video with clips of dancers, but struggling to find decent clips .. I asked one guy could I use some clips from his vid and he told me to get a camera and go and film it myself ... lol..
Thanks again Mike.
On the positive side, it does stop you trawling through records boxes, ignoring what's going on.
Looking forward to see what you find and do with Element V2.
