Milagros Rodriguez Are you trying brown/tan nudes? If you’re fair and your hair is blonde it just sounds like you need some color. You’re probably washing yourself out. You may be unintentionally turning yourself sepia haha Also some peeps need more makeup other places to pull off a nude lip. Like more blush or a more dramatic eye etc. Try nudes that look like lip colors and not beige.

When I was organizing my lipstick collection I noticed that 99% were the same color (which I love) but some of them I hardly use because the formula is so uncomfortable. Do you have any tricks for picking out a good formula for a particular skin type (aka super sensitive with allergic reactions - hives - to a ton of ingredients)? I am getting married later this year and want a good long wearing lipstick so I dont have to reapply multiple times in the day, that is also not drying or stingy or smudgy. People keep telling me to get a liquid but I cant find one that doesnt smudge as soon as I drink something or burn when I put it on, and my favorite cream (bullet) lipstick wears off after an hour or 2 so I need to keep reapplying all day long.

I have every lip color and finish under the sun, and have such a great time being creative, but my frustration is getting it to stay looking great, especially since I don't have much color to my natural lips so it's obvious when my color is coming off. The first issue I deal with is that I have to blow my nose multiple times a day when I'm inside here in Orlando since there is freezing cold air conditioning everywhere, which apparently makes my nose run a bit year round. So, even with a hardcore matte liquid lip like KVD or Stila, I'm still having to redo lip liner and lipstick (also an issue with foundation removal via tissue, obviously) at the top of my lips. This may be hopeless, but I figured I'd throw it out there! The other issue is the film that can collect toward the mouth opening due to talking. My lips might look great overall, but I feel the need to wipe that off and reapply, then you have to watch out for it getting on your teeth again. This all might be TMI, but they are issues that keep me from wanting to wear lip products at all, and I need to use these amazing lip products that I have! Thanks for all you do, Sephora team!
I have the same problem! I've found that lipgloss usually helps this problem. So, I do my lipstick in the morning and i then choose a lipgloss to go with it. However, i don't use the lipgloss until the lipstick starts to fade. At that point, I pop on the lipgloss over the remnants of that morning's lipstick. The lipgloss usually gives the lipstick new life... at least until the workday is over! Honestly, the Fenty lipbomb/gloss works best for this. It looks good on everyone and makes every lipstick look gorgeous. The glosses from Colourpop, Ciate and the lip toppers from Lime Crime (i think they're called Diamond Crushers) work great for this technique as well. Good luck!!!
I choose lip color based on dominant colors in my clothes and the season. In neutral colors such as beige, black, blue, cream...it all depends on how the color intensity/ texture combines that inspires my color for the day! I love lipstick as an accessory!
Renee Runyan it really depends on your skin and hair tone. Some ppl look better in colors that will compliment your undertones for some reason. Perhaps it’s not always the case but personally i look better in contrasting colors. I have a fair skin with yellow undertones and I look far better in cool tones than warm. Hope that helps! yup lipstick is mostly dependent on eye colour. red brings out green eyes and green-ish hazels pink is for blue eyes berry is for hazel and light brown and nudes and browns bring out dark brown and black eyes
I just need a chart with models of most skin tones trying on the lipstick. I have found that Orangey reds and berry colors work great on me, as well as some deep shades of copper. I’m looking for the right nude for dark skin - the right amount of pink and brown with just a bit of shine that will match my lips. It is just a lot of work to try colors until you find but I will. I wipe off lipstick on the center of my bottom lip to make sure my natural lip shading is showing through. People put in work to mimic that effect. Embrace it is my suggestion. But if you’re into just even it out with a liner of the shade you want to enhance.

Your natural coloring will tell you more about you than we ever could. Also opacity matters. Sheer will allow you to come though more than a full coverage formula.

By any chance has Sephora updated the colors for virtual try-ons in the app in the last few months? The colors have never shown true on my iPad. I’ve done the virtual try-on for lip products I already own, and I find that the colors have not looked the same as irl. Perhaps the issue is opacity? Like is the virtual artist capable of showing what a gloss would actually look like vs a matte liquid lip vs a cream bullet lipstick? The opacity can make a huge difference in how a product looks. I have also found that how light or dark a product is is typically off by a couple of shades. I have tried changing the brightness on my display and also the amount of light that I am in to see if I can find a combo that’s more true. Any advice? I haven’t used the feature in a while for this reason, and so I am very curious to know if it has been improved over that last several months. I live in Hawaii on an island that does not have a Sephora, and so I rely heavily on ordering online. Thanks!

Start with a totally neutral red, one that doesn’t lean in one direction. For example, the Sephora collection lip stain in Always Red has no orange/blue/pink undertone.
Does your skin tone lean more cool or warm? If some reds are pulling too orange they might be too warm for you and you need more neutral or blue-toned reds. This could be a great time to check out and try on colors on the Virtual Artist feature on our app so you can try a different tones of red and narrow down a color family of red that works for you and go from there. :)
I have a very hard time finding the prefect nude, I have silver/gray hair, blue eyes & cool tone. Everything I've tried looks washed out on me. Any suggestions, the closest store is in JC Penny & it's 45 minutes away.
What about age? As a mature woman I dislike mattes. They are much to drying. My everyday go to is absolutely a nude. More pinky than brown. I gravitate towards glosses more than balms. I don't need something long lasting just something that won't migrate. Suggestions?

Lipstick never stays on me very long. How is it that some women never even lose their lip color when eating? What can I do to have long lasting color but which doesn't dry out my lips? I have olive skin and cranberry tones as opposed to bright red looks best.

Juice_stene88 I usually just stick to a medium brown liner bc that’s my neutral. If you’re fair a pinky brown might be a good choice that you can throw on with everything. I like to go deeper bc it gets more definition. But yea if you want vampy match the color and go a few shades deeper. Just don’t leave any harsh lines and you’re good 😊

Light my Fire by Nars has been my fav orangey red of late. I like to pop it in the center of my brick reds.

Have you tried nudes that lean a little more neutral or cool rosy-toned? Those tones of nudes can be very flattering on fair-skinned, cool tones.

Lipstick never stays on me very long. How is it that some women never even lose their lip color when eating? What can I do to have long lasting color but which doesn't dry out my lips? I have olive skin and cranberry tones as opposed to bright red looks best.
Still trying to find a nude that doesn't look bubblegum pink or orange for my skin tone.

Lips thin with age and dark colors recede. Try a glossy color or popping something brigher in the center.
For an everyday lip look, I always choose a stay-on-all-day product. I put it on with my makeup in the morning and don't have to think about it the rest of the day. 💄😍👍

Some really good tips! (I absolutely adore Jeffrey!) One question: I am fair skinned, with very pigmented lips, so nudes just don't work on me. My natural lip color just changes how they look, so I look like I'm wearing Wite-Out, or it doesn't look like I have anything on at all. Is there a way to cancel out your natural lip color so you get more of the actual TRUE color of the lip product?
You can use a long wear concealer to tone down the color of your lips before applying lipstick. ;)

If you’re fair a pinky brown might be a good choice that you can throw on with everything. I like to go deeper bc it gets more definition.
But yea if you want vampy match the color and go a few shades deeper. Just don’t leave any harsh lines and you’re good 😊
