Erik Näslund Exactly! I’m 23 got into chess about a year ago because Agadmators video on game 3 of the 1972 WCC got recommended to me and for some random reason I clicked on it. I hadn’t played a game of chess since I was 8 years old (my dad and grandfather used to play on scouting trips). I was immediately hooked and through watching Hikaru, Antonio, Aman & Eric, Yasser, and Ben Finegold I’ve learned a lot. I went from only knowing how the pieces moved to 1820 on chess.com in the year since. It’s great RUclips and Twitch are around to support all of those guys sharing the game that they’ve devoted their lives to.
@@Masua90 I've done puzzle rush, but it's mainly been books, playing, and analyzing my games. I've also watched most of agadmators videos and took notes so I can look into/reference the concepts later. I'm just lucky to have the time and interest.
Reasonably good intro for how to play chess. I usually watch Hikaru's videos as tactics trainers. As he and opponent are making moves, ask "why did they do that". Starting from absolute basics (don't blunder your pieces) is a good idea. He also mentions major classes of tactics (pins and forks). There are a lot of good chess videos on youtube and this ranks as a decent chess lesson 1.

One good advice for the beginners, which wasn't mentioned in this one: If someone checks you, you should always watch, if that piece is actually guarded somehow. Sometimes beginners respects their opponents too much and they are not watching for the bluffs. Even if player's rating is above yours, they can still make stupid mistakes. Of course these can be traps also, but if you fall for it, you will learn from it.

I finished up my associates degree late last year and took a semester off to figure out what my next step will be so I had a lot of free time. I've been an avid reader most of my life so I'm used to taking in and processing a lot of different information and chess has just become another thing that I like to study. On average I've been playing about an hour or two a day and analyzing games about the same amount of time. I've also watched most of agadmators videos and took notes so I can look into/reference the concepts later. I'm just lucky to have the time and interest.
@@Matthew_Troll Yeah that's really fast. Took me maybe 2 years to reach 1500 and then I plateaued and stopped.
This aged horribly
Why?
GC XQC faced Charlie aka Penguiz0 aka Mo1stCr1tikal in a game kf chess and Charlie checkmated xqc in 6 moves
The new context takes this from educational to comedy
@@gamewarrior666 That's what you get when Charlie's in
True😂
29:49 HIKARU’S FACE KILLED ME WHEN HE HEARD “MY QUEENS IN CHECK” XD
29:38 hikaru thought xqc would take the pawn but the game stopped him from making the wrong move 💀 hikaru’s face was absolutely hilarious when xqc finally realized he could take the queen
Xqc didn't have a chance against the throbbing master moistcritical who was blessed and guided by the omniscient prophet Daniel Naroditsky and let's not forget about the fat 10 gift subs by our savior pikachu
10 min? Naka would slaughter me blindfolded with 8 seconds on his clock
They actually had a quick match with xqc getting 1 min and Naka getting 10 seconds and Naka won the match in like 6 seconds actually lol
Farhan Rana lmao
is anyone here after xQc got rolled? :)
I love how xQc says "of course" verbally declaring understanding of Naka's guidance but he has us all on the edge of the seat waiting because in the back of our minds we know he doesn't get it. Just waiting to see what he does is fantastic.
Additional like for Dota name crossover
Love this, didn't think Hikaru would have such patience.
It's like what actually the title says
"I Survived" (on hikaru's T shirt, which you can think of it as a name) teaches xQc Chess
30:07 "Wait, my Queen isn't in Check....yours is!" LOL
Lol that sentence doesn't make sense whatsoever
@@fadilhabibidanufane9593 ya it does.
@@DeuPKay No it doesn't. Only kings can be in check...
@@Ninterd2 Yeah but from a beginner's perspective it effectively is. In this case check just means "the piece will die next turn"
@@Tom-101 Yeah. I thought that check could only apply to a king in the sense of the definition, but I suppose it technically means that something's just attacked. My bad!
i need an agadmator analysis on on of these games lol
i always need an agadmator analyisis on any game
holy shit thats so fucking true
Uh, he actually did one. lol
ruclips.net/video/ZE8XbnwfJDE/видео.html
Imagine teaching xQc for days, streamed for hours, and then gets checkmated in 6 moves
Hikaru: "You can maybe try to move your king out of the center, but it's going to be hard now, but you can try" smirks 29:00
THIS WAS AMAZING LMAO, one of the coolest video collabs I've seen in a while. xqcL
Because of this I started playing Chess online and also ordered a Chess set to play with my family
Great game that I forgot to play for many years. Hope there will be a part 2!
Oh so you actually got it.
As much as I don't really enjoy xQc's streams, I thought this stream was excellent. Apart from being a good reminder on basics, reaching out to larger audiences with chess is always a plus.
*THROBBING*
Bruh this is so cool! I had to re-read the title a couple times to make sure I wasn't dreaming
RUclips's algorithm knew what it was doing when it put this in my feed
50:17 '' this is what we call checkmate'' Hikaru Nakamura 2020
i really like your vibe man. very informative without making yourself sound superior or him stupid. very genuine, keep up the work learned tons of good information.
This is liquid gold for someone who’s an absolute beginner to understand the fundamentals.
A coaching class like this in any other era would’ve costed a fortune!!
Hikaru you da man! 🙌
48:58 Basically: when you stop blundering all your pieces you can try to calculate 2 moves ahead

You can see the nerves in xqc, it's the worst when someone asks you "what do you do now?" expecting you to kniw the answer and you do something wrong, I feel for the man
10:35 i love this part where xqc acts chill then mutes himself and says fuck
7:50 you're playing great so far (finding a way to hide his laughter)

yeah is rare lol hahahahah after always hear to naka say +2800 is a noob
I think he was about to laugh cause he was looking at chat which was probably spamming "PepeLaugh DONT LAUGH HIKARU"

Hikaru can do a tutorial where in he teaches Chess players of 5 different levels... starting from 1000 to 2000
Hikaru is having a rough time teaching xqc only to be obliterated in 6 moves by a certain florida man
I imagine a alternate world where xqc wins against moist critical and say "I like to thank my teacher Hikaru and the wooden shield"
Hikaru: *Leaves the room
I kinda adore the energy these two exude together. they are two opposite sides of a spectrum but they mash so well together
The fact that xQc is rated 1000 fools me beyond imagination. There’s no scenario in hell that he would be 1000. He’s straight add
Oh no no no “Your level”. TL busta
Man, the internet is weird sometimes. Never thought I would see this crossover.
It’s interesting hearing Hikaru go over the basics, even if you’re an experienced player
For example, it’s possible that his understanding of some of the basics is different than yours when you were starting
If xqc stuck to chess instead of being toxic in party games i would watch more of him.
Hikaru I'm not gonna lie, but the way you're teaching him is super cool, and you're keeping the fun on the same pace like you didn't make him feel bored or something , you kept the atmosphere interesting ! really good job
being pretentious is fun for u huh
@@hallucy2215 no he is not pretentious , he's just an intense guy that's not even holding back his excitement even by playing against a weakling player, and also a main part of teach is to keep things interesting and motivate the player
Can you imagine xqc not training and losing in 6 moves.
*I could never*
Wouldn’t it be ironic if he would have lost in more moves if he didn’t get coached? Well, I never watched any of xqc’s games so idk if he really learned anything at all
@@sykerblade5353 He probably would have lost in less moves if he wouldn't have been coached. I believe that xQc learned the scotch Opening by coaching and as far as i know the scotch prevents the popular mate in 4 (main line of the scholars mate), which is the reason xQc lost in 6 and not in 4 moves (xQc didn't play the main lines so cr1tikal needed to play a variation of the scholars mate). If he didn't play the scotch tho, he probably would hve lost in 4 moves
I love how brutally honest Hikaru is when he says things like “at your level” or “good players would...”
yeah, I think its easy to be honest like that because "good" chess players are insanely good lol.
How is this brutal in any way
He just started playing the game and they both know that
Increadibly instructive. These kind of teaching videos actually seem really useful
Hey! Just wanted to let you know this definitely wasnt for nothing. I've always been slightly intrigued by chess but never got to play or understand it, but after this stream my interest was piqued and I've been playing it almost non stop for a week now! I absolutely suck at it rn but I'm having fun and wanted to thank you for this!
Look, there is a RUclipsr who is IM Levy Rozman (GothamChess) he has alotta of great guides which would help you get better at chess.
And also he has some paid courses if you are onto this.
I love how he couldn't resist the mate in 1 and give the poor guy another chance at 0:36
that's how you know he's a pro
I love chess, I love overwatch. I follow xqc, and hikaru.
Never in a million years did I think this would happen, but yet here we are.
I would actually love if this was a new series where Hikaru teaches new people chess
I tried getting good at chess with those Chessmaster games years ago, but I don't think they ever actually taught me anything. All it really did was prime me for the concepts Hikaru mentions in this video. Hikaru explained everything very thoroughly in a way I can understand it and nothing he said felt like it would be discouraging. When I tried to git gud and failed so many times, the game became boring to me because I didn't understand how to not suck. But maybe I'll pick it up again because of this!
I suggest u to practice a lot of tactics first, but don't read too much of openings or strats etc
Keep in mind that it is not bad to study strategic play but i suggest u should study a lot of tactics
@@J4ve what's difference between strategy and tactics? aren't both almost same
@@argo1288 Tactics are short term thingies, like the fork (which is mostly an attack on 2 undefended pieces). And strategy is in longer terms, like controlling the center etc etc
Smh this is not even comparable to the wooden shield technology,Naka is simply too old school to be able to properly teach such a 5Head player.
Then he gets six-moved by Cr1TiKaL.
You'd think hikaru became a pompous guy after getting good, but he is actually a nice decent and very patient human being. This is a true sign of intelligence.
teenspirit1 how is that a sign of intelligence?
@@EIIlast2791 it's easy to let go of all manners and just act however you want after getting really really good at something. If you can do both decent and good, it's like being a polymath.
teenspirit1 oh, well I agree that it can be a good thing but it’s definitely not a sign of intelligence given the definition being being able to apply and acquire knowledge and skills
@@EIIlast2791 well yeah of course it is a good thing agreed, but we disagree on whether keeping your manners while being really good being a sign of intelligence.
"Is there like metas?"

We call them openings.
Try doing something creative at the start, you'll get fucked over.
